Re: Church of Marco Belinelli
Seems like everyone around here is saying this dude is gonna be a plug and play Neal replacement. I actually think he'll be a lot more than that.
Give him the Manu role of backup SG/small ball SF, and give Manu the Horry treatment of saving him for the playoffs.
-
Re: Church of Marco Belinelli
I hope they give him a lot of playing time.
As for Manu, just because he had a bad year doesn't necessarily mean he won't have a good year coming up. He has been a great player through most of his career so I would give him the benefit of the doubt, just as I would a TMac, or even a Kobe at the end of his career. To do otherwise would be the epitome of folly IMHO.

can't defend, bad shooting slection, can't pass (but i've seen some improvements), has no balls (no hiiting a game winning shot once in a thousand tries doesn't change that), he's soft and unathletic. He's basically Gary Neal with less defense, less clutch shooting, incapability of handling the ball and worse percentages from 3.

Indeed. Cause Manu's many turnovers are now predictable

He can create off the dribble and attack the rim unlike Green. That particular skill is surprisingly rare and valuable in the NBA. The list of current/former Spurs who can't do that is long: Green, Bonner, Neal, Smith, Ellis, Person, etc...

He played on one of the best defensive teams in the league last season, I'm sure Thibs taught him how to play in some defensive schemes, and Pop will demand it of him, he knew that coming in and took less money to do so, he will be ready. He's an average passer and idk where you get that he has no balls from, dude is not afraid at all. You have to realize that he's been on shit teams for most of his career that call on him to be an offensive focus and here in SA he will get tons and tons of open looks with TP/TD/Kawhi taking pressure off of him. Just wait and see...

Some of these weaknesses were real, but, at least in part, are a thing of the past.
Defense was his main problem when he came in nba. Not so much anymore. Now he's, at least, decent.
Playing with Chicago have done some good to him, defensively speaking. So, I can't see him, in that department, worse than Neal (also if I have to say that Neal, this year, has made some defensive improvement).
On offense, Beli is probably better than Neal in a structured environment, like ours...he's very good in shooting coming out of screens, for exemple. Probably, Neal is better in clutch shooting and in creating his shot, also 'cause he can release the ball in a shorter time...but Beli his higher than him. One thing with Beli, is that he plays with passion, and, more than all, he decided to came here 'cause he loves the mentality and goals of this team. As we've seen also in this year free agency period, not a lot of nba players chose to play for us, despite the success of the franchise . In this sense, I can't be disappointed with this signing.

you have to consider that thibs makes everyone look a lot better on D that he actually is, and you still have to consider that Chicago's D has regressed a lot this year. If you think he plays with passion, may i remind you the Pianigiani outburst with Italy the last time? I'm sure you remember it if you're italian. Beli is not going to shoot off screens with the spurs imho, i see him coming as the pure catch and shoot player and he'll disappoint those who think he's better than Neal. Imho of course.

I am the same, a team fan, not a player fan. I like all the Spurs equally.
That's why I don't follow football or baseball anymore, because San Antonio doesn't have a team, but should!

Re: Church of Marco Belinelli
48minutesofhell did a comparison. The one thing I really like about Belinelli is he gets to the free throw line and puts pressure on the defense unlike alot of players on our team. Manu used to. Kawhi's starting to and TD used to be much better in the past. But who else on our team outside of maybe TP consistently gets to the free throw line?

Most of those points were given up at the rim...and were part of a very poor collective defensive effort. Beli, however, almost won the game by himself by making big shot after big shot late in the game. But keep on with you weak sauce Beli hate shtick. I'll bump this thread each time he puts his big Italian sausage in your mouth like he did last night.

so you don't find any connection between the belinelli hot shooting, the 110+ points allowed and the loss?

no i did not, stop deflecting.
-
Re: Church of Marco Belinelli
:lol deflecting....I asked you to give me the connection but you can't since you didn't watch the game and are working off some assumption that I'm guessing is rooted in Beli not being a great defender. His defense had very little to do with the Spurs giving up that many points. Anyone who actually watched the game can confirm that. They can also confirm that his clutch shooting almost single-handedly won the game in the fourth quarter.
Enjoy your Italian sausage.

LMAO at this clown. Belinelli didn't have jack shit to do with why the Spurs' D was so bad. I actually thought he did relatively well on the defensive end, tbh.

which is why the spurs have a 98 defensive rating and belinelli has a 104 (second worst, behind diaw who happens to play with belinelli most of the time)
.. and just for an add, even if the sample is small, danny green has a 91 drt.

i never questioned his ability to score in bunches tbh, his ability to score in bunches in a playoff game is a whole other discussion. Also, it is not a coincidence that the only game we lost was Belinelli's best game. His D however is terrible and if you pay close attention to it, you can notice that even in blowouts. The fact that a lot of teams are currently terrible, doesn't change that tbh, you've got to look at the big picture.

who fkin cares? all i was saying is that neal was able to move the chains when the offense stagnated in the PO and belinelli will not, neal could not be a pg for us and belinelli can be that even less, neal could not defend anyone well, belinelli will defend even worse. I was always positive about letting him go, but saying belinelli is an upgrade over neal is flat out retarded.

The way you're turning on Neal is pretty cold blooded tbh when you used to have him as your avatar... Neal = season saving shot. Neal = best player of a finals game. Neal makes bad shots and good shots at the same rate, there's no bad shot for him basically which is why he was so good for the Spurs in the POs...
Beli is a worse shooter and a bit better passing and driving. It's not a huge upgrade or downgrade but it's gonna be damn hard for Beli to live up to what Neal has done... Let's see Beli running the point against pressure defense to laugh a little bit like Neal was asked to do...

he actually was awful in 5 games, played what the system gave him and nothing else in two and was very good in the one which ended in a loss with a shitload of points given up. If that's proving anything than good, but yeah you are both retarded and ignorant to what the rules of statistics are.

You are the one that seem ignorant of how stats work. Nobody hits their average every game. Numbers go up, and numbers go down, game to game. Overall, Beli is playing very well.

yeah, none is going to have .500 or more from three point range, so i'm not sure what your point is, since obviously hater's point is that 8 games in you can tell he is going to be.
