Re: Translating RC Buford's Press Conference
I don't know why anyone would be surprised to hear that Pendergraph may actually be in the rotation. They didn't pay him $2M to do something Baynes and/or some other minimal type could do for less than half the price. I expect Bonner to start out the season as the fourth big, but I don't think it'll take long for Pendergraph to be given a serious look.
Let's hope he usurps Bonner, because he can make the big rotation work, at least more so than it currently does. Right now, either Splitter has to double as the starting PF and backup C or Diaw and Bonner (a combination that should never play together, for obvious reasons) have to play significant minutes together off the bench, given that neither Duncan or Splitter will eclipse 30 mpg. The problem with the former is twofold: 1) Duncan and Splitter, the best defensive interior tandem in the league, can't play together for more than roughly 6 minutes and 2) To break up or at least limit the Diaw and Bonner pairing to select match-ups, Duncan has to play more than they'd prefer, since Splitter has no stamina.

-It really does sound like the Spurs will bring back Neal unless he gets an outrageous offer. RC points out that the Spurs still have roster room to add him and hints that
Neal's ability to play point guard make him a fit going forward.
If Neal has ability to play point guard, then I have the ability to land Eva Longoria.

Ok. Post a few links from respectable basketball writers saying he has a well-known eating disorder.
-
Re: Translating RC Buford's Press Conference
If the Spurs are serious about having Neal be their backup PG, that makes it even more pointless to have Joseph, De Colo and Mills all on the team at the same time. There's got to be a trade of somekind.
-
Re: Translating RC Buford's Press Conference
It's just about collecting assets for later now. No trade has to be imminent.
-
Re: Translating RC Buford's Press Conference
Spurs about to add a whole new meaning to the word small in smallball.

We're talking about someone who was obese in Charlotte... I mean not sure how you can contest that the guy has a problem with food...
Boris is one of my favorite player but I'd be extremely surprised if he didn't back to the Spurs fatter than he was when he left them.
Now you can nitpick all you want but he has a big problem with food, that's the bottom line.

Not every player in the league is Lebron and we have a need at one position.
Besides, if he only plays PF due to his size, what does that mean for all the other big men?

RC Buford held a press conference today to talk about the free agency movement. Here's my version of what he said utilizing some paraphrasing and reading between the lines...
-Manu made a significant sacrifice to come back." Interesting.
What does he mean by "significant sacrifice"? That can only mean that Manu could have made a lot more money playing for another team. I call bullshit on that one and think RC is trying to defend the Spurs decision to sign him to that large contract in view of the firestorm of criticism they received. Had some team offered Manu a 3 year $30 million contract, Manu woudl have jumped on that and you couldn't have blamed him. My guess is Manu had little of any interest from any other teams based on his horrid playoff performance and injury history. A Phoenix, LAC, Houston or even Miami might have signed him to a 2 year $6 million deal to help sell tickets ot the Hispanic market. I highly doubt any other team was offering a 2 year $10 Million and no team was crazy enough to offer a 2 year $14 million save one. And his "Thank You" contract was that $14 million per year he just finished while wearing out his body playing for Argentina.

Translation: "We Aint gettin Andrei, Gary's commin back!"

Re: Translating RC Buford's Press Conference
The only firestorm of criticism is on this board tbh.

Re: Translating RC Buford's Press Conference
Bottomline: Buford had to bring everyone back or his ass was on the line. Can you imagine letting Manu and Splitter go and we fizzle next year or go out early in the playoffs? He would be crushed for his off-season moves. But re-signing Splitter and Manu and fizzling out or going out early in the playoffs...he simply has to say...I brought back a Finals team...we had to give them the opportunity to see what they could do. I dont like the Manu signing at all but it was a safe signing as far as public opinion and front office decisions go.

Re: Translating RC Buford's Press Conference
I thought someone would translate what R.C. was saying underneath his coughs, tbh. /blue

Good take, it was just very hard to make any change to that team even if he thought he could make it better.

So what rabbit is the front office gonna pull out of the hat for the backup SF?
