SPURS SIGN FABRICIO OBERTO
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed Fabricio Oberto. Per club policy terms of the contract were not released.
Oberto - who is 6-10 and 245-pounds - has been a member of Argentina's national team since 1995. During the 2004 Olympics, he averaged 8.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 22.7 minutes while shooting .604 (29-48) from the field. He missed the gold medal game after suffering a broken right hand late in Argentina's win over the United States in the semifinal game. He will be the sixth member of Argentina's 2004 Olympic Team to play in the NBA (joining Manu Ginobili, Andres Nocioni, Carlos Delfino, Ruben Wolkowisky and Pepe Sanchez).
Oberto, who turned 30 on March 21, has played professionally for the last 12 seasons. After playing five seasons in Argentina, for Atenas de Cordoba, he joined Olympiakos Pireus in Greece for the 1998-99 season. In August of 1999 he signed with Tau Ceramica in the Spanish League. For the last six seasons he has played in the Spanish League, spending his first three seasons with Tau before playing the last three seasons for Pamesa Valencia.
During the 2004-05 season, Oberto appeared in 30 regular season games for Pamesa Valencia, averaging 14.2 points and 7.3 rebounds in 28.5 minutes. He led the league in field goal percentage with a .654 mark (191-292). In ULEB Cup play he saw action in 16 games, averaging 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in 27.6 minutes, as Pamesa advanced to the ULEB semifinals.

Re: Spurs sign Oberto
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs today announced that the team has re-signed free agent Robert Horry. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Horry played a key role in the Spurs 2004-05 title run. He hit the game-winning three-pointer with 5.8 seconds left in overtime of Game 5 of the Finals, giving the Spurs a 96-95 win and a 3-2 series advantage. He was the highest scorer off the Spurs bench in the Finals (10.6 points per game) and throughout the playoffs (9.3 points per game). During the 2004-05 regular season Horry averaged 6.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 18.6 minutes of action for the Spurs.
The Spurs 2005 NBA championship marked the sixth of Horry's career. He is the only active player to win four or more titles and is one of only 12 players in league history who have won six or more championships.
Horry, who will turn 35 on August 25, has seen action in 931 regular season games in his career, ranking him 10th among active players. The 6-10 forward holds career averages of 7.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.13 steals in 26.0 minutes per contest. He has never missed the playoffs in his 13-year NBA career. Horry has seen action in 198 career postseason games, which is third all-time and the most of any active player. His career playoff averages of 9.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.29 steals are all higher than his career regular season averages. The Finals all-time leader in three-pointers made, with 53 threes in 33 Finals contests, has connected on 237 threes in his playoff career, placing him tops among active players.
The Alabama native entered the NBA as the 11th overall pick by the Houston Rockets in the 1992 NBA Draft after spending four years at the University of Alabama. He earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in 1993 and won two titles (1994, 1995) in four years with the Rockets. He was traded on August 19, 1996 to the Phoenix Suns, where he appeared in 32 games before being dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers on January 10, 1997. Horry won three titles (2000, 2001, 2002) in seven seasons with the Lakers prior to signing with the Spurs as a free agent on July 24, 2003.

Are we sure Oberto's 6'10"? The guy holding the other side of the jersey better be about 6'7".

Re: Spurs sign Oberto, Horry
I think Spurs fans need to call in and threaten to cancel their tickets unless Fabri gets a different number.
I don't know what the hell the Spurs are thinking giving the jersey of one of our prodigal sons (J.R. Reid - the guy played with DRob!) to some Argentinian scrub.

Calm down! He'll most likely pick another number before he comes here. In fact, I came across this pic the other day, so don't worry about numbers yet...

Re: Spurs sign Oberto, Horry
Dont forget the mighty Carl Herrera also wore that number.
Herrera and Reid....Oberto has alot to live up to wearing that number. :lol
-
Re: Spurs sign Oberto, Horry
For those new around here, Aggie was jesting.
Oberto is better than the other wearers of #7 for the Spurs. I think it's his lucky or rather his fortunate number.

^^^
Man, R.C. must be HUGE.
I like how unshaven and unkempt Oberto is, like he just got off his Harley. Other team's fans, who don't pay attention to smaller moves around the league, will be thinking, "Who the hell is this guy?"

You'll see a much bigger difference in Oberto and RC's heights when they are walking in this video.

Do we know now terms of the contract for Horry ?
I know it's a three years contract with team option for the third.
Is the third year a team option for Oberto ?

Thanks for that Kori. Was good to watch. Seems to have a sense of humour too, while pulling off the silver-tooth look.
