Hey, I would like to get some opinions on this. If we could only resign one of the two (either Big Dog or Devin Brown), who would you rather sign? and Why. Also, give your guess for their respective salaries. Thanks.

No brainer, Devin... hes got loads of room to develop.
Depends on Devin's back.
Devin!
Then, after he is resigned, try and get Big Dogg anyways. :D
Is there an update on his back?
good post. Too hard of a decision for me. I flipped a coin and it came out Devin.
Assuming Devin is as healthy as his agent has been speculating, I'd stick with him. He may not have the credentials that Big Dog has, but he's got a bigger upside and fits better into the Spurs' system. Not to mention the character and charisma that he brings to the locker room.
This is not to say that Robinson didn't contribute well last season. He hushed a lot of critics who doubted his defensive abilities, sparked a much-needed turnaround with his dunk early in the Pistons series, and that jump shot was still smooth as silk. I still think the Spurs should put him on the priority list for this offseason...just one spot below Devin Brown.
I don't think that Devin is coming back. Spurs don't seem like they going to show him a couple million a year and Devin can get that on the open market. I think he gets traded in a sign-and-trade deal within three weeks.
How about Melvin Sanders?
He impressed in the summer league.
vBookie, anyone?Quote:

I would love to see the Dog draining those mid rage jumpers for a full season. Wonder if he would/could keep the D intensity up for the full season though.Quote:

Even if he leaves, it seems like the Spurs will find a good one to replace him. The Spurs are a desirable situation for players nowadays, and guys can just fit in and fill a role. Steven Jackson came as a dissapointment, and got big money from Indiana. Devin came, just hoping for a spot and now has a chance to cash in. I assume something similar will happen this year.
This may be hard for some to swallow, but i don't think either Brown or Big Dog is coming back for us next year. Both seem like they want to explore other opportunities and the Spurs seem like they are willing to do the same. I think if Brown does come back, it will have to be for slightly over the league minimum. I here he wants more than one million and the Spurs have only offered $900,000. I don't think he will play for less unless offers from other teams cool off. I think Big Dog is gone. He probably will end up back in Miwaulkee like he wants. I think the Spurs are looking hard at Maurice Evans right now and probably somebody else that has been flying on their radar for awhile.
Devin.....
But Big Dogg will be more dependable.
Given the choice I'd go with Big Dog. He gives the Spurs better shooting and size, and brings some versatility to the Spurs as a big SF. Plus given some economic realities Big Dog seems more likely (even though he's still possibly a long shot). Devin is going to be worth at least 2 mil to some team out there, and he'll probably be worth it to them. Teams are more likely to risk a young guy with a back injury that doctors are swearing up and down has improved and won't be chronic than a vet like Robinson, who despite what he showed in spurts with the Spurs, is still surrounded by a lot of question marks.
Spurs offered that so they could keep the right to match any offers. May offer more depending on what else goes down. That back is going to make a lot of teams think twice, which is why the front office is playing it that way.Quote:

If I had to choose between Robinson and Brown though, I think I'd go for Robinson. Neither player really has long term value past about 2 years for this team--let me explain. Devin has a lot of upside, but it isn't like Manu is going anywhere and he doesn't have Bowen-like defensive prowess so signing him for the long-term doesn't make good business sense(Malik Rose, anyone?) of course we all know Glenn is nearing the end so obviously he isn't a long-term investment. So basically I see two players who you are looking at getting 2 years out of, so pick the one who gives you the best chance for the next 2 years. Obviously, beyond 2 years you'd go with Devin, but for me it's Robinson for the immediate future.
If both fall through, I would love to see Maurice Evans in silver and black!
:duck
brown wants minutes he will not get 25 minutes a night
why should he sign with the spurs
dude should go to a team that plays him
The Spurs are already eyeballing Devin replacements and 6' 5" swingmen are relatively easy to find. I love Devin's heart and effort but he will probably go some place he can play and prove his back worth of a larger contract.
While Big Dog will never rival Bowen defensively, he can definitely still put it in the bucket. Barry was supposed to be the guy that could pull the Spurs out of their occasional scoring droughts but he didn't exactly fill the role as expected. I still have great hopes for Barry but Big Dog would give us another option for instant offense.
If he can pick up the teams defensive priciples which help mask players defensive deficiencies, I think over the short term, the Spurs would be wise to look at Robinson.
If nothing else pans out immediately in FA or trade, offer him a two year contract with a player option the second year. Maybe the LLE or $2.5 mil or something in between.
He gets a full season to prove his worth in the system and at the end of the season, he stay, opt-out and search for a last big contract, and at the very least, the Spurs can learn if there is a new Big Dog or if he simply reverts back to his old tricks.
For the Spurs, Glenn shot in the season, 44% FG, 33% 3G.
In the playoffs, he shot 36% FG%, and 30% 3G%.
Over his career, his 3G% is 34%, meaning he can't hit 3G's for shit (only a little better than Tony). His game is mid-range.
He's never going to get significant PT with the Spurs, so I don't think he will get enough minutes in a game to find his rythym, never mind work up a sweat, and to get anywhere near his career FG% of 46%.
So I think debating Glenn vs Devin is pointless, considering Glenn said he prefers to play elsewhere anyway. If he stays with the Spurs, he will be well down the rotation and so marginal as to be insignificant.
Add up all the deficiencies that have been listed above for both players--and you come up with the conclusion that neither player is a perfect match for the club next year, despite their individual talents.
Big Dog wants a shot at a big last chance as a starter; Devin wants a shot at a big first chance as a starter. Neither will get that chance on the Spurs.
The only way we keep either one is if their dreams about their chances don't come true.
Devin Brown. It is looking like Miami will be San Antonio's biggest challenge and Devin Brown is another player you can throw at Dwayne Wade who is getting better by the day. I think San Antonio is better off with a very quick and 6'5 shooting guard than a slow 6'8 small forward. I think the speed difference is very important for San Antonio.
Unless his back is really that bad, losing Brown is going to come back to haunt the Spurs. Brent Barry left a lot to be desired in the playoffs.
I agree. You lose Devin for a couple million over a couple years and it'll be a pretty horrible move by the Spurs. They've invested a lot of time, energy and playing time in Devin. I think this is the season that we finally see what he's got.Quote:

I disagree.
Devin Brown will be a good bench player, but the way you guys are making it sound, its like giving away Stephen Jackson all over again wich I disagree with.
Losing Devin Brown would open the door for a Sprewell or Finley. Not that I would like to see that, but it could be what the Spurs have in mind.
Agreed, thats the way it looks.
I dont like losing Devin Brown, but over 1.8 for a guy with habitual back problems???
No thanks.
NEITHER!!Devin's back is obviously a problem or Brown would have sighned with spurs already or someone else. Big Dog is wanting more $$ than the spurs will give him. I say sign Evans from the kings and try to hold onto Rasho..The spurs are going to be plenty deep at all positions!!
I would keep Devin over Big Dog since Big Doggie wants to go.
I thought Big Dog said that he would like to stay?Quote:
