Oher-Giacomini would be a decent pairing imho, especially from a run blocking perspective..

Re: 2014-2015 Oakland Raiders Thread
a) Giacomini sucks, especially when it comes to run blocking
b) Giacomini is signed elsewhere, and we already picked up a good right tackle in Austin Howard
c) they will either go for Oher, draft Matthews, or stick with last season's 2nd round pick Menelik Watson, who was injured all season

wow didn't know the jets signed him..

Re: 2014-2015 Oakland Raiders Thread

Re: 2014-2015 Oakland Raiders Thread
I don't understand why Oakland is going after UFAs (not released players). They had two players signed away on big deals. They essentially traded two fourths (and probably at least two sevenths) just to bring in some washed up vets.

its going to be a struggle just to get to the salary floor at this point. we still have well over 50 million in cap room. they are in prime position to steal away a guy like Mack by giving him a massively frontloaded contract

They let most of the big-money players go. If thet weren't willing to keep their own players, they should have given out some bigger contracts by now. Trading decent picks for Tuck and Smith isn't the way to go.

Re: 2014-2015 Oakland Raiders Thread
yeah, i agree, its been puzzling. as i said in the OP of this thread, keeping veldheer should have been the #1 priority, and they should have kept houston given the reasonable number he signed for. its been a real headscratcher

Re: 2014-2015 Oakland Raiders Thread
apparently Boothe had a rough year, but he's been a plus run blocker for most of his career. he should slide in at RG
Charles Woodson is also being resigned

Re: 2014-2015 Oakland Raiders Thread
Good. After botching the Veldheer situation and the retarded Saffold thing a least we have a starting caliber left tackle. Just one less need to draft
-
Re: 2014-2015 Oakland Raiders Thread
While I certainly would have liked to lock up Veldheer (he is younger, and better in pass protection), Penn is a capable starter, and a better run blocker. Along with the signings of Austin Howard and Kevin Boothe (two other plus run blockers), the raiders are showing they are going to be a power running team this season.
Justin Tuck, Lamarr Woodley, Antonio Smith, James Jones, and Tarell Brown are also FA signings that will all be starters. didn't really make any splash moves, but anytime you can sign 8 starters in free agency means you probably did something right.

Re: 2014-2015 Oakland Raiders Thread
Penn bailed the Raiders out much like RayRay bailed Wade out in 6 :downspin:
