does .4 still piss you off?
i watched this year's dvd for the umpteenth time today and realized that winning it all still hasn't made up for that shot. i figured it would be the first thing on the dvd, but i didn't see the actual shot when it actually happened. after watching all the celebration and stuff after tim's shot, i find myself really wishing they had won it that year and mad at having to look at fisher's shot again.
-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
:) fishers shot brings a smile to my face :)
-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
I am pissed about that shot because of Fisher and the Lakers running out of the gym as quickly as they can to make sure they don't review or change their mind. I hate that Lakers team. It should be .7 because the clock didn't start on time thanks to a slow reaction on the clock keeper.

-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Thats one thing i dont like about the spurs, the way they can 1 minute absolutely dominate, make u think the opponent has no chance, then lose or get blown after.
The lakers series we had 2-0 , and not just a any 2-0 lead, it seemed that series was
gonna go 4 or 5 games max, but look wat happened. Same thing seattle this year, 2 blowouts for a 2-0, almost lose that series. The finals another example. Its almost like they wanna show their dominance early , then they go into cruise mode or something.
-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Thats why people say we have no killer instinct, we cant seem to crush people after we've got them down and almost out
-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
At least the Pistons beat the Lakers. I am glad Malone went out ringless. :lol

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
No.
Sports is about the good and the bad. The highs and the lows. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. That is what makes it fun and interesting.

Well, they would have been up 3-1 (I think?) and it would have been a different series. Totally different.
Actually, at one time it was an unofficial rule among the refs (or maybe some announcer came up with that) that you couldn't get a shot off ( unless it was a tip in) in under .5 seconds. It was impossible for him to catch and shoot the way he did in .4 seconds. That is what they called home court advantage.

It wouldve been 3-2, and also it was on the Spurs homecourt, so there wasn't much of an advantage.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Nope. What pissed me off was the way we we played the first 3 quarters of that game. We didn't deserve to win and I am not so sure we would have beaten them in 7 games. Somewhere in Los Angeles we lost our way. LA wanted it more than we did. They were humiliated in games 1 and 2 and responded by kicking our asses in 4 straight games. If we had won that game, we would have went back to LA up 3-2. Instead, LA went on to crack the team with the best record in the league in 6 games too. They were the better team in '03.
Detroit exposed them and played hungrier than the Lakers. LA reverted back to playing lazy defense and playing selfishly.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
no doubt, fucking clock started late.
-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Looking back on the contrast that came from going from such a HIGH point...to such a low point...in such an impossible amount of time...will always sting a bit. I'll never forget how pissed I was after Fisher made that shot. Probably will forever rank as the worst moment of being a Spurs fan for me. (At least, we can only hope)
However, I said if the Spurs came back and played like champions this year, then they would redeem themselves. And they did. So currently, no. You could say I'm over it now.
It was a tough lesson to learn, but you can be damn sure the Spurs will never think a game is over until the clock reaches 00:00.0

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
some of you people continue to bitch about the fact that the clock started late on that possession. Folks when tim duncans shot cleared the net there should have been .8 on the shotclock so the argument that the clock started late and took him .7 to get the shot off is just a cry baby excuse. Get the fuck over it your team lost that series, they had every opportunity to win.
On the other hand your team came back from that shot and dissapointment and won themselves a title. Hats off to them, but some of you just bitch n whine waaaaaaaaaaaaay to much and are begining to sound like kings fans.

for some reason.. i just watched that games replay last night.. after duncan made his shot.. i switched channels

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
The Lakers ware playing much better, and with the Spurs winning game 5, the Spurs would had probably lost the series anyway. Even winning that series, Minnesota was a problematic matchup, and the Larry Brown Pistons ware definitely better than the Spurs in 2004.
Manu wasnt playing the same level as this year. Duncan was slowed down by an injury. We had no good backup PG. Horry was nervious. Hedo was playing awful during the playoffs. The Pistons would have won anyway.

It was 0.3, so the rule stands.
The shot was an amazing shot, but for every 0.4, there's the memorial day miracle, and there was the Horry shot. At least the Spurs are up 2-1 in that department.

It has more to do with the Spurs offensive predictability than that "killer instinct". The Spurs, prior to this year, was the most offensively predictable team in the league, probably ever. Dump the ball to Duncan, 4 guys stand around and watch. It takes a couple of games to figure them out, and it's very much like the George Karl Sonics, they are great in the regular season, but when teams have a 5/7 game series to figure them out, they are much easier to beat.
A huge part of the Spurs success this year during the playoffs is their unpredictability. Manu off the bench, him freelancing and creating in the 4th quarter, lesser reliance on Duncan on offense and Barry and Horry offering different dimensions off the bench, these are all things that catch other teams off-guard, and require them to watch tape to come up with ways to match it up.
Very rarely has there been a team in the history where you KNOW exactly what they are going to do, and they do it over and over and over again to win a championship. It's one of the main reasons Malone and Stockton never won a championship, it's also why Barkley with his park his butt in the paint offense never won anything. Pop has grown as a coach, and is more willing to try different things, this makes the Spurs a much better team.

Nah... We piss off far too many more teams far more often, so it's only fair that we get a taste of our own medicine once in a while.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
What pisses me off is that we didn't get another crack to play that same Lakers team last year. It would have been really sweet to get revenge on them in the playoffs, but the whole Lakers organization pretty much went down the gutter when Kobe started to think he was Jesus and Shaq started to think he was God. Oh by the way, Jerry Buss, doesn't it bother you that Phi Jackson is slamming your daughter every night. Great way to run an organization there Jerry!

I was pretty pissed/shocked when it happened. When it was total bullshit cause the clock started late and such. But now I don't really care. Spurs are going on to win more titles while the Lakers fall back into a draft team. Sucks to be the Lakers & Lakers Fans :)

Talking big and inheriting our left overs only after the fact that we took ourselves out of contention is real tough guys. Atleast Shaq and Kobe are not no.1 lotto picks. Don't forget you got D.Rob and T.D. by sucking big time. One bad year doesn't take away from what the organization has done or us kicking your asses all those years.

? The record from 99 to 04 in head to head is 3-2, advantage lakers, I wouldn't call that a major ass kicking.
Also, it's nice to build teams from smart trades and draft picks (Robinson, Duncan, Elliott, Manu, Parker, Kerr, Horry), rather than tampering.
And Shaq was a no1 pick, it's just that Orlando picked him.
And if you want to somehow discount drafting #1 picks for championship (why?), just see the five champions in the 80's, and look at Magic and Worthy.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
I can let it go as it being the past, something we obviously overcame the best possible way. That sort of made a statement to our wills as they lost like they were lost, and we turned around and won it all.
I looked back and this whole issue reminded me of some lyrics I know, in which I tweaked the words for basketball relation.
"If you fail to see a problem,
(Which I find hard to believe)
Or if you're hanging on from branches
Catching the waves on your beach you say
"The hopelessness of losing Shaq, the childishness of winning Kobe"
But there's a call to love more my friends
That can never be destroyed however much you talk,
However well you talk you make a certain sense
It's still only stupid talk, however much I strut around,
However loud I sing, the Shining Trophy doesnt have to say anything"
So yeah like I said it's over and done with, but they lost twice in the process.

I agree for the most part.
Our team last year wasn't all that great to begin with but yet the shot was bogus. Oh well, we still could have busted the Pistons for a 2-peat.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
If they were the Utah Lakers, that wouldn't have been a shot. They started the clock late, and any reasonable person knows that. There is not time for a catch, turn around, jump, and shoot in .4 seconds.
-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
What is this .4 you speak of? Sorry, I have no recollection of this incident.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
I enjoyed seeing the whole Lakers team faces after my pistons beat the living shit out of those pricks. They pulled 1 win out of their ass thats how much better we were then they were. Game 5 when we just humilated those punks brings tears of joy to my eyes. Losing to the spurs sucked but I can enjoy the humilation we gave those chumps in the finals

Because the Pistons dominated that game and happened to be on the loosing end due to a clutch shot.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Not really. The year before Horry's shot was like 3/4 the way down and the Spurs got a lucky bounce in Game 5. Then the lucky 0.4 shot, so in a sense it basically evened out.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Fuck yeah .4 still pisses me off, i went around yelling in my house when Duncan made that shot, and i even broke some of my parents freaking fragile stuff in the kitchen out of pure joy, then i sat down and watched Derek Fisher rob the Spurs of a victory, and i felt sick, i was literally going to throw up, it was just sick......4 seconds is not enough time to grab the ball turn around jump and shoot.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Greatest moment in nba history. I have never seen such a clutch shot like that. San Antonio did everything they could to try to win that game but the lakers were just better. The Lakers remind me of the 05-06 heat because of adding more talent after already having a superior talented team over the spurs but injuries got the best of them.

I'm going to be real, I cried when fisher's shot went through. When Tim's shot went in I was like "okay, we deserve to win", but I was wrong.
What eases the pain (and basically takes it away) is the fact that the Lakers organization basically imploded and the Spurs won a championship.
I had completely forgotten about .4 until I saw the championship video.
So yes and no.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
You better hope that Wade or Shaq get injured because I don't see the spurs stopping either player or even doing a decent job. The spurs no longer have Robinson that can slow Shaq down and they don't have a young Bowen which equals Wade domination. Combine that with Posey's tenacious defense and Williams point guard skills equals championship.
-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Hell no it doesn't still piss me off. My whole life, I've only been a fan of two teams--the Houston Oilers and the San Antonio Spurs. Throughout my adolescence and well into adulthood, both teams found new and inventive ways to teach me to never count on any victory until the game was over.
Thankfully, the Oilers were put to death.
On the other hand, the Spurs have brought us all a lot of joy since 99. I've learned to take the losses when they come and however they come--the three titles have more than made up for them. 20+ years of futility will give you some perspective.

Dude, are you serious?!?! :drunk Oh no, Bruce is a year older, guess what? Shaq is too! Jason Williams and championship should never been in the same sentence.

You better hope the Joe Johnson deal falls through otherwise Phx is going to have a hard time getting to the WCF.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Centers last a long time. Look at Kareem Abul Jabbar. Guards rely more on speed than big men and that is why age will effect Bowen more than Shaq.
-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Yeah....age isn't affecting Shaq any. :rolleyes
He is like one of those C-5's that used to be at Kelly AFB.....so big that they break under their own weight just standing there.
-
Re: does .4 still piss you off?
Shaq relies on power and he will always have that. He might not be able to play alot of minutes like he used to but he still is effective. He was having a great year last year until the injury right at the start of the playoffs that was bad timing. People were even considering him a MVP candidate before that injury which was bad luck.

I already know that the Suns won't win the championship. You don't have to convince me of that.

He might not be able to play alot of minutes like he used to
hence the problem right there. When do you play him then.....at the end when the game is out of reach...or at the beginning then the other team comes back.

If Mourning comes back you get 48 minutes of solid center work. Shaq won't be needed to play heavy minutes.

Re: does .4 still piss you off?

Re: does .4 still piss you off?
The Heat have not proven they are better.
