Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Possibly. Who would you put number one? Not exactly the deepest crop to pick from.

Personally, I would rate Doug Christie and Finley higher, while Sprewell and Houston lower. I believe both Christie and Finley are players who could prove to be very helpful to any team. Finley looks like he is getting older and older, but a season away from the Mavs may give him new energy.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
If Dallas waives Finley then you have to consider a player who is still an above average player for such a cheap contract (possibly 2-4 million) and would rate Evans #2.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
C'mon, you're discounting Finley almost as much as Mav fans do. Sure he's not as good as he has been in the past, but averaging 13 and 4 and shooting just about 40% from the arc in the playoffs is more than anyone else on this list has done lately.

Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Is the list ranked by Best Player Available or Best Fit for the Spurs?
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
I've watched Finley a lot over the last couple seasons and it just doesn't look like he has anything left. If he's not injured, he's making comments to the press that lead one to think he thinks he's still a main dog. If he's willing to come to SA and come off the bench in a reduced role, that would work.
But I don't think it fits with how he's been acting the last couple seasons.
As for Christie, I think his foot injury is serious. His career could possibly be over. But yeah, him at 100% would be a good addition.
P.S.
The more comments the better. I'll consider making changes to the list.

So he's Spree with better production

No argument there -- He'd probably end up in Phoenix because he'd have a bigger role.

I agree on the Christie injury, but if you think about it, you listed Allan Houston higher. Houston looks like someone who is actually very close to retirement, he played in 70 games over the last two seasons.

I thought Wallace signed with Charlotte already.

I think the spurs should go after gerald wallace he could be the next Bowen.

Yes they did, but the Pacers are saying they will match any offer. Bird has all but guaranteed it.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
I definately would have Finley higher. I'd like to see him pissed off for a season after getting cut, and you know he'd play balls to the wall if the Spurs faced Dallas in the playoffs.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Didn't Phoenix say that too, timvp? ;) If they REALLY think that he could be the Spurs next '3', they should call Indy's bluff and give him a 2 year offer for the LLE. That could cause friction, since Indy's #1 won't make that much.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
I think that the Pacers have actually backed off on their stance of matching on Jones.
They have 15 players under contract after signing Sarunas. Even if the get rid of Reggie's retired contract by amnesty -- they'll still not have roster spots to sign both Dale Davis and James Jones (which is what they wanted to do).
Here's the latest on that situation in the following article. It says that his agent has already talked to several teams and almost has some offer sheets formulated. I hope the Spurs are one of those teams - Jones, Gerald Wallace and Matt Barnes are the guys that I want on that list.

Well, seeing as how it says "most talented player" by Glenn Robinson's name, I'd guess it's the latter.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Just one question how bad the Spurs need a swingman? They have Manu and Barry...
I still think the Spurs need an Small Forward...
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Anyways I would choose Devin Brown as the swingman to re-sign
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
If it wasn't for the injuries, DeMarr Johnson all the way baby. The man is atheletic, an excellent defender, and a decent scorer, all he needs is a consistent jumpshot, reminds me of a young Stacey Augmon .... but then Augmon never developed a jumpshot.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Actually DeMarr has a decent jumpshot. He has range out to the three but hes still pretty streaky. Not bad though. I would not mind him at all. 6'9 and as long as they come.....
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
as a fan I don't want to see Spree or Christie on my team. Sure, I'd root for them initially out of loyalty to the team... but I'm sure that would wane as the season went on and you keep hearing about there off court crap.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Spurs will be getting Jefferson from NJ for Rasho.

Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
1. D. Brown
2. Wilkins
3. Finley (even though he hasn't played defense since Elliot was playing)
4. J. Jones
5. G. Robinson (Not as talented as finley)
Flip Murray would be my 4th choice if he is still available
Never want to see Spreewell or Christie in spurs uniform.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Gerald Wallace deserves the number 1 spot

Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
I think we need a swingman to grow and mature with this team. The reason Bowen is so damn good is because he has learned the Spurs system on defense better than anyone and he has conditioned himself in the off-season every year. The guy is just a workhorse and I'm not sure I see any truly hungry players on this list. When i say hunger, I mean a desire to learn and develop as a player. I think most of the players like Finley, Houston, Christie, are at the tail ends of their careers and may not have the energy to buy into another system. I say if we take a risk, it has to be on a young kid, because if it doesn't work out, then it may still be possible to get something for them.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Gerald wallace? He never got much playing time in Sacramento but I thought it was cause he did not get a chance to play then last year on Bobcats still did very little to impress me. He can Dunk and maybe good someday, but I doubt it. Off that list I might take him 8th or 9th.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
Haha! I believe the tree stump answered his name correctly on the SAT. I'm taking a poll on the following question: Who has the lower I.Q. among the two athletes...Gerald Wallace.....or.....the one....the only....Mike Tyson? Something for you guys to chew on....I will also be taking donations for the Sprewell Famine Fund! He has a family too, ya know!
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
I think Sprewell and Jacobsen are great picks if available. Devin would be great but he really deserves and wants a starting spot on another team.
-
Re: Spurs: Top 20 Available Swingmen
eddie robinson? just became another statistic cose of that amnesty rule
