Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
Great news?!
The Blazers are going to be well rested and they are young while the Spurs have to play a Game 7 and will likely only have a day off if they advance. I was hoping that series would go 7.
-
Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
Thinking a Portland win is good news for the Spurs.:lol
-
Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
The fuck are you talking about? Blazers will be ten times harder than Houston. In fact I think they beat us 4-2. First, everybody choosing to play Dallas instead of a team that can't shoot for shit, now this. Spurs fans are some retarded fucks, tbh.

I've always though Portland has the loudest arena. That place looked insane. If the Spurs get out of the 1st round, taking a game there is going to be a bitch.
-
Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
Ya, Portland is a more athletic, younger version of the Mavs with a worse coach and worse bench, tbh..the lack of a bench doesn't even really matter, all their starters play 40 minutes..
The Spurs were 0-4 against Houston in meaningless regular season games, but the Rockets aren't really a playoff-suited team, tbh..poor coach, ISO ball, and Harden is a playoff under-performer..
If the Spurs win game 7 and get Portland, Duncan won't be able to play more than 25 MPG, and Parker is going to get destroyed if he looks the same as he has against the Mavs..

A rested Blazers team that is young vs a tired Spurs team with an injured Tony. That would be terrifying.

Great. Just fucking great. They get to sit and rest, laughing while they watch the Spurs sweat an 8th seed in a game 7.

That's what gives me hope if the Sours get past Dallas. All Pop has to do is stop being retarded and go with the obvious (easier said than done).

Go check what I said about the Spurs/GS back then. I'm just buffled at how Spursfans can be so mistaken regarding the best matchups for their team.

Our quasi athletic and young players like Leonard, Green, Splitter could play +40 minutes, too. But that never gonna happen -with Pop's rotations-.

Dallas was supposed to be an easy matchup; Pop and the roleplayers shitting the bed is the reason it's gone 7 (and the Spurs very well may get 8'd again).

That was my first reaction but a young rested team versus a Spurs team coming off a Game 7 high bodes well for Game 1, Round 2. Now Game 2 - not so much......

Either was an easy matchup; whose to say the Grizz don't take us to 7 as well? If the Spurs lose this series it's on Pop.

Grizzlies don't have the firepower to take more than 1 game out of the Spurs (maybe 2 with a lot of things going their way). Grizzlies were a way easier matchup, I don't understand how people can't see this.

I agree with that, but honestly I would think that most Spurs fans wanted OKC to face the Grizzlies because the Grizz can beat them and we can't.
-
Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
Duncan wouldn't be a liability against the Grizzlies, they don't have the weapons to exploit his lack of mobility, tbh..if Duncan is on the floor and isn't being exploited in the pick&roll, the Spurs are going to defeat their opponent without any problems..

Mavs have had a lot of shit go their way too (Vince's GW 3 doesn't go in, Spurs win the series in 5). Miller has shat on the Spurs in the past, and Tony has been getting outplayed by Jose fucking Calderon; no idea what Conley would've done to him, but it wouldn't of been pretty. Beno > Harris as well.
-
Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
I'm not saying the Grizz were a bad matchup, what I'm saying is both Dallas and Memphis should've been 4/5 game series, so the fact Dallas has pushed the Spurs this far is a massive choke job. Pop should own up if they get knocked out early.
-

QFT.
Spurs would have handled Memphis 4-1. Dallas getting up for a potential upset against their arch-rival. If we even make it to a series against Portland we're going to be going in tired against a young, athletic team.

I fear that, like LA in 08 after game 7 against NO and the short turnaround. I fear that part there.

The thing is the Mavs had a chance of getting a lot of shit going their way because they have the firepower (2nd best 3pt shooting team in the NBA and guys that can go insanely hot like Dirk, Monta and Carter) Grizzlies don't have that chance, they have to outplay you to beat you. And they weren't going to outplay the Spurs more than once or twice in a series.

Spurs have been outplayed the entire series and haven't been giving 100% effort until Game 4. The Grizz play harder than the Mavs because they have to and are used to it. Chances are Spurs would've dropped Game 1 had it been the Grizz in a similar situation. Spurs have owned both teams over the past few seasons and they let it get to their heads.
-
Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
Don't worry guys, if the Spurs can get past the Mavs, expect Jeff Ayres to play a pivotal role against his former team, much like DeJuan Blair has.

The Spurs aren't getting outplayed because of lack effort. They're getting outplayed because of styles and bad adjustments. This team knows how to play the Grizzlies, not so much the Mavs.
-
Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
I actually don't think it's "great news". With Houston, we had Hack a Howard to abuse, we had a guy we can goad into chucking in Harden, and we had terrible ball handlers like Lin to force into turning the ball over a million times. All we really had to worry about was Asik Blairing us or Parsons continuing to dominate the SF matchup as he has been all year.
Portland has multiple guys who we have yet to really contain. Aldridge always kills us. Lillard usually looks like Isiah Thomas against us. And Batum plays us well too.
Then again it doesn't matter if we shit the bed again against Dallas.
-

:lol they gave zero fucks in Game 2 and only came to play for the final few minutes in Game 1. Spurs have blasted Dallas longer than they have Memphis as of late, so they knew how to play them fine. Pop just went away from what worked and Beli has been worse than dogshit (the whole bench has been for that matter up until Game 4).

As much as we shit on dwert, he'd of given the Spurs loads of problems. Harden also plays like MJ against the Spurs, and Lin and Parsons never miss. Portland is a mirror image of Dallas, only younger and more athletic. Throw Green on Lillard, Splitter on LA, and Parker on Matthews/Batum with Leonard doing his thing. Duncan also doesn't struggle against Lopez like he has against Dalembert in the past.
-

How do you explain games 3,4, 5 and 6 then? Lack of effort too?

They played with great energy in those games, but the bench being shit has hurt. Again, that fluke Carter shot in Game 3 really sucked. Now it's at the stage where I don't think the Big 3 have it in them to play at an elite level.

Should've been over Wednesday in this series too, but Pop and the bench haven't played up to par. With how the Grizz have played OKC and how bad the Spurs have looked going 7 with them wouldn't have surprised me. Would've felt a lot more confident seeing them in a Game 7 tho instead of Dallas.

No matter how putrid the Spurs are playing the absolute least they can put on the board is 90 pts. 90pts on regulation is a good game for the Grizzlies. There's just no way a series between these two could have gone more than 5 or 6 games.
-
Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
Role players would have played better against Memphis too 'cause I doubt they would have used Carlisle game plan of shutting them down and letting the big three beat them.

Always the injury excuse anytime Parker plays like shit in the post-season. By that logic, he's been injured for most of his playoff career.

Grizz offense is much better this season tbh, the additions of Miller and Lee have helped a lot. I'm not doubting that Memphis matches up poorly, but so do the Mavs. Yet here we find ourselves going into a Game 7 with Dallas while OKC (who also owned the Grizz in the regular season) are in a similar situation. Fact of the matter is these teams came to win while the Spurs and Thundet coasted. In OKC's case they're lucky the league has their back.

Spurs' role players have been missing open shots. They prolly would've gotten more but in the end making 0/5 is the same as percentage ad making 0/8.

Blazers play big with Lopez and Aldridge. So it is similar to dallas, if we beat Dallas then splitter just had some good training vs nowitzki that's for sure. And Duncan stays on Lopez. Both will get 30+mpg

Content or not, the Spurs misjudged their needs and signed more soft, nonathletic players. Call it a multi-year trend.
The Spurs FO has regular season know-how, but they've lost the ability to discern what it takes to win a title.
-
Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
How anyone can say that MEM would have been a worse matchup for the Spurs is beyond me. Spurs always struggle with jump shooting teams - see GSW, MAVS. MEM would have been 5 games max because TD, Splitter and Diaw handle Zach and Gasol just fine. It's the perimeter players that give them fits because Parker and Manu MUST play and their defense, especially Manu's, vs the quick, fast players (Reggie Jackson, Harden, etc) is terrible. Instead here we are on the brink of game 7 with DAL smelling blood. Green and Splitter need to play big minutes. No Belli, Bonner, Ayres. Go with whoever is hot and forget your precious rotation, Pop. Play like you're fighting for your life (like all the other playoff teams have been playing).

I don't know. With Pop's rotations and defensive assignments the Grizzlies could average 100+. Just look at '11. Sam Young was unstoppable.

The Spurs just need to convince the other teams to treat the playoffs like the regular season and they would win it every year.

Re: Lillard just broke Houston's heart...
i don't know, the grizz may be better than their seeding would indicate. they were the 3rd best team in the league by W-L record from jan 1st through the end of the season. took OKC to a record 4 OTs. I think they would've been just as tough as the mavs if not a bit tougher, especially with the way spurs have been playing
