Re: Popovich legacy on the line,,,,
Pop has made the WCF in 2012, the finals in 2013 and at least the WCF again this season. Duncan and Manu aren't in their prime since long time. For the 8, Memphis were the better team. The Suns were a great team too, the year they swept the Spurs. Those two are more on RC, as the Spurs lacked talend, were too old or had no bench. OKC were much more talented in 2012, and had support from the refs. Pop did win Phil once in 03. Would have Phil eliminated the Spurs in 08 without the Gasol trade? The Lakers had way much more talent, as they did in '04. Malone prefered the vet min from the Lakers then $10M from the Spurs. The '06 and '13 titles were on Manu more then on Pop.
Phil makes less mistakes and is therefore much more consistent, but I doubt Phil would win many, if any, titles with the Spurs rosters.

Re: Popovich legacy on the line,,,,
Funny how Duncan's legacy is cemented as a top 10 player ever for everyone on Spurstalk and yet Pop has had several accolades that only three or four coaches have achieved in NBA history and there are some who question his legacy.

Don't forget the only time Phil has had a roster with aging all stars and raw, young talent, he got swept in the second round of the playoffs. Pop took his team to the finals.
Jackson quit on the Lakers when he saw they weren't championship material, but once they got Howard, he was interested in coaching again. Can't ignore his accomplishments, but any of the top ten coaches could duplicate his success with the same rosters.

If he loses this series, he will tank right up there with Kevin McHale. If he wins, only Red Auerbach stands in his way.

Hey, don't knock HEB grocery bagging. It's a respectable career.

my friend from san antonio got me into basketball, and gave me the usual song and dance about "teamwork" "humility" "class" etc etc. hook line and sinker.

You got that right,,,,I'm the worst poster ever invented. My question is this,,,,when are you gonna admit you aren't that good at posting as well? I like your posting but I see others own you and make you cry and you go in hiding.

Pop has got swept by Alvin Gentry, beat by Lionel Hollins/Memphis as an 8th seed, back door swept by Scott Brooks, outcoached by Avery in 05-06, abused time and time again by Phil Jackson.

Re: Popovich legacy on the line,,,,
This is one the Spurs have to win with or without Ibaka. The Grizzlies pushed them to 7 games largely on the strength of their defense. They do not have nearly as much offensive firepower as the Spurs.

Blame the players before you talk about coaches.
