I'd give it to Ginobili tonight. He gave the team a spark when the starting unit came out tight and sloppy. His playmaking was also great getting everyone involved. Splitter seems to only be effective offensively when he and Ginobili can run that screen and roll. A lot of Duncan's easy buckets were the result of Ginobili's passes leading him to the rim. His defense was sub-par in the first half but much better in the 2nd half. He locked into Wade and played him damn good down the stretch contesting all of his shots.
Manu fans giving kobetards a run for their money, tbh,
don't care... loving the win... we're going to need to play better Sunday...
Duncan 5TO
He started off well, after LBJ slowed down it was all down hill. Miami is surprisingly bad without LBJ, that's to be expected as he is the true MVP of the league, after he goes out it's easy pickings, he is their defense, their offense, everything.
I'm taking game 1 with a grain of salt, things lined up very nicely for SA this game. Miami didn't play too bad but they could've played much better.
Duncan was the third player his age in history to go 20/10/90% along with Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell.
manu fans dying for him to get a finals mvp. I say this game was Duncans. They crowded the paint. They were doubling him at times also. He anchored the defense and grabbed key rebounds down the stretch. 9 for 10 shooting. Both players did good tho.
Timmy was huge but he benefited from the way Miami defends (same as last year), which basically is trapping the ballhandler with a bigman and leaving him all alone in the paint against a smaller player. Most of Tim's baskets came from other making a play for him (that's why Tiago had a huge game too), he very rarely went one on one on the post.
Manu was the best player tonight, tbh..
If the rest of the series goes the same way, Duncan would get the MVP, though, it would be a bigger story..
Bosh hardly left him. Most of his baskets were over bosh. I noticed on several occasions once tim put the ball on the floor, the double teams came. Thats why he rarely went one on one. He was getting most of his points from sealing bosh or lewis deep in the paint. The guards/boris dumped the ball into him from the three point line and he made the lay in. I wouldnt say they were creating plays for him. They basically made the easy pass. tim did the positioning work. I would say tim made 6 or 7 baskets this way. the other 2 were created by parkers penetration and hand off.
Both of them were damn valuable. Duncan took full advantage of Miami slacking on him, shooting 90% for the night. He also had a handful of huge rebounds at the end of the game.
Manu gave the team a much needed spark when no one on the perimeter was clicking. I don't expect for him to play this good every game, but hopefully he won't have to - Leonard and Diaw NEED to step it up.
But if we're discussing timely MVP's, Green should win by a landslide. Dude scored 11 points in 2 minutes and 18 seconds, making the 88-84 deposit turn into the 97-92 lead. If Ginobili or Duncan did this, everyone would be ejaculating themselves.
I'm not sure I could split them, tbh.
