Re: Brent Barry on the block?
The Spurs are scraping up against the tax this year. Tim, Tony, and Manu all get old CBA raises for the rest of their contracts; Tim and Tony 12.5% and Manu 10%. You have two players making $5-6M each, with years left on those deals, and not being terribly productive, in Brent and Rasho. Of course they're both being shopped.

If Brent Barry was Afro-American would anyone care?
His parents, for one. They'd have some questions for the doctor, wouldn't they?

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
I for one am thrilled that Brent played well in game 7 against the Pistons and had a good overall series against the Suns.
Other than that ? Maybe he played well in about 9 or 10 games and that is it. Winning rings makes folks around here forgive BIG TIME, and understandably so, but towards the end of the year I was just hoping Brent would not kill his own trade value.
He didn't perform as we expected him to. If he gets one more year, I hope he shines but I don't fault the FO for wanting to move him.
If Devin had not been injured, Brent would have been nailed to the bench. He was that bad. Hell, Manu was forced to come off the bench to generate some sort of spark. Hedo is one thing, but a seasoned vet needing that sort of coddling ?
I'm not surprised at all. I just hope we get another good player in return.

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
Brent Barry was a giant playoff vagina and yet he gets more love in here than players who actually helped the franchise win championships.

Name the player that "helped" that doesn't get more love than Brent. Let me start a trade thread for that player, and lets see the flaming begin.

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
Start with AJ and Malik. You must be new here.

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
Maybe Brent will finally figure out whats going on next year. And it gives us someone to slap around.

Seriously....what? Brent Barry gets lots of love my ass. I'm a Barry hater myself.

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
Jaren Jackson was good, then he started sucking. Malik was good, then he started sucking. Barry sucked, took shit all year, people wanted to trade him. If he stays with the Spurs and sucks again people will quickly give him shit again. Where did Barry get a pass?

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
The Sonics are about to re-sign Vitaly Potapenko for around $3mil/yr, they plan on re-signing Reggie Evans (approx. $1.5mil/yr) and Ronald Murray for (approx. $1mil/yr) and Radmon for $8mil/yr long term (he wants near $50mil) or $3.2mil/1yr short term to become unrestricted free agent. Their current Sonic team salary totals $35.3mil plus the above contracts for a total of approx. $48.8 with a couple few more roster spots left in which they will use the MLE. I guess the reports by the Sonic media about the full MLE is based on assumptions about what the Sonics will do as far as what it will take to re-sign their restricted free agents.

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
Actually, I think Barry sucks now not because hes a bad player. Its because he needs to start. Seriously. Look at Barry when he starts a game and when he comes off the bench. I dont mean getting a spot start. Im talking about starting regularly. Let Manu come off the bench after 5 mins. Manu can still play 30 mins a game. But Barry will improve tremendously if that happens. Hes the type of player who needs to get into the groove from the onset. If not if you just shove him in, hes going to take time to adjust and thats why he looks bad.
Dont think many would agree with me but thats what I think.

Well most reports are that they are not close to signing Evans or Murray, and that Radmanovic hasn't come close to accepting any of their offers. So they are still exploring sign and trade options for him, or he might decide to come back for the one-year offer. The only player that I know they are close to signing is Potapenko.

You could say the same thing about Robert Horry...

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
I think Barrys ability to run the point is underestimated. I would not move him until another backup pg and maybe another shooter is signed. I doubt that they want to trade him. He should be more comfortable in his 2nd year with the Spurs. Of course they are looking around for the right deal (nobody besides Tim/ Manu is untradeable) but I don't think that they are desperatly trying to move him.
-
Re: Brent Barry on the block?
I admit that I was pretty harsh on Barry last season and I was disappointed in his play. But when you look at the big picture you'll see that there aren't alot of players in this league that can do as much as Barry can. Barry is one of the most versatile players in the league. He can do so many things on the court that helps a team to win. I agree that his PG skills should be used more. I'd rather have Barry then Brown right know. There are soo many Devin's out there (athletic slashers) but not many Barry's.
-
Re: Brent Barry on the block?
If they are looking to move Barry I would not be suprised if its more like they would try to add him to a package deal that gets Rashos contract out of here.
I for one am hoping that Barry will turn things around this year.
Remember how Horry didnt do squat his first season with the Spurs...but he played well this year (for the most part).
Maybe the same will happen with Barry this season...now that he has most likely reached a decent comfort level here.

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
When the Spurs went down to a 7-man rotation, Brent was still on it. While he sucked a lot of last year, I think we will see a much better Brent this year.
-
Re: Brent Barry on the block?
Yep, in the super-tight 7-man Finals/Championship rotation, Brent was the b/c backup, and Robert was the f/c backup, period. Demonstrates Pop's valuation of Brent and Robert. If that doesn't get Brent to relax, to feel accepted, loved, respected, validated as a Spur, nothing will.
Why and for whom as a f/c backup would Pop trade away Brent?
I expect that come next June, we'll be down to the exactly the same 7-man rotation, which will be very hard to break into. I'd love to see Farbricio hit the deck running and steal some minutes in the f/c.

Love? WTF are you talking about?
He was everybody's favorite escape goat.

Close to signing and wanting to sign are two different things when dealing with restricted free agents. I think the Sonics have interest in signing all but with most restricted situations let other teams set the market value and then make a decision. All three of these guys are restricted.

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
Here we go again with the Barry shit. I for one will be extremely happy if Brent does exactly what he did last year again this year. Let's see, he played well in the first round, was okay in the second, was a major factor in jumping on the team with the league's best record in game one on the road in the WCF, and came to play in the finals....where others (read Hedo) had disappeared, Brent got better. Everyone yapped about how he would be come playoff time, ....well he was much better in the playoffs than he was in the regular season. Yep, if he does that again, I'll be fine with it.

No way. I don't recall shouting "Shoot the fucking ball !!!" to Horry all year. And I remember big play after big play from BSR. I'm not just talking about the shots. He got key rebounds, steals, played solid all year long. He didn't put up monster numbers, but he wasn't a waste of space on the court either. He did exactly what was expected of him.
Another poster mentioned that Horry had a "bad" first year with us and redeemed himself this year. I don't agree. He had 1 bad series against the Lakers but was absolutely fantastic against Memphis. He played solid minutes in the regular season in '03 too.

Played well in the first round ?? You mean when Pop was forced to bring Manu off the bench because Brent needed a jolt of confidence ? He wasn't exploiting his mis-match with Boykins and would sprint full steam down the court only to pass the ball as soon as he got it. He logged more "waste of space" time on the court than any other player. He was awful. His game 2 performance was terrific and then he went to shit again. 0-16-4-9-3 pts in each game respectively. CRRRAP.
I'll be happy if our team achieves the same result but if Barry performs the same way he did last year I'll be calling for his friggin head. Folks, he sucked last year...period. His career numbers warranted his contract and we made the right decision to sign him. I really thought that he would have averaged 12 to 14 points a game and really thrived. Hell, his brother put up similar numbers for 1 mill. vet minimum. We can replace that.

Re: Brent Barry on the block?
Brent Barry and the just signed Antonio Daniels are going to make about the same money next year. Who'd be worth it more for the Spurs to have?
