Of course it was not altruistic.

It was, however, genius. It also allowed us to buy their stuff. It was a fantastic economic maneuver.

Didn't say it wasn't, but Allies could have could have stripped them of all industry. Probably wouldn't have one of the strongest economies in the world if the Allies had relegated them to a farm country.

After WWII, the European, esp German, industrial and agricultural basees was were way, way down, producing not enough for themselves, never mind selling to USA :lol The Allies capped German steel production and dismantled over 1000 German factories.

The Marshall Plan appx $500B 1945-1953 in loans and grants was for European reconstruction and for buying stuff from USA.

Boutons, you show your ignorance so often and you really did in this post. The Germans concentrated on exports, as well as all of Europe, and the UK. They used what they could salvage, including making toys from the G.I.'s beer cans and exporting them to the U.S. for hard currency. Do you know the real reason for the Marshall plan. Read some of your favorite literature, I am sure you can find some crying in the beer from you favorite political party, The Communist, how it defeated their efforts in Germany.
