Church of JaMychal Green
Throw in a 2nd round pick with Jeff Ayres and ship him off to the Lakers... This guy needs a spot on this team :worthy:
Jeff Ayres, a 5yr veteran is getting outplayed in the Summer League :lmao If I see this clown clap his hands one more time after a fuck-up...

Re: Church of JaMychal Green
that put-back dunk was pretty nice.
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
I wish he could be Kawhi's backup. The boy got defense an energy
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
If he can hit threes better than he did in Austin maybe.
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
Green is a PF and not sure he could defend SFs.

Yup. And I'm not impressed by Kyle Anderson neither, should've picked up Cleanthony Early

I guess we are not looking at the same Kyle Anderson then.

Him and Daye have Gary Neal shot selection. Too early to tell, but I just don't see the hype

From what I've seen of the game, Anderson hasn't looked good at all. But I'm watching the Cup final. I'll watch the summer league game in fullness later.

I think it will be interesting to see KA with better players and shooters around him.

I definitely agree with that statement. That and the system. Right now they're playing Carmelo-ball out there.
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
We need to bring him into camp because I think he can beat out Austin Daye. If we are going to have someone at the end of our bench, we need defense and shot blocking in the front court on our roster way more than we need another finesse three point chucker.
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
Another good game. Udoka said he'll rest Daye and Ayres near the end of the summer league and play some of the guys that need a chance... He better keep his promise. Ayres is eating this guy's minutes
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
If Green had played Errors and Days minutes he would probably have had a 20/10 game.
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
He should get those minutes soon enough.
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
Do they have some kind of tournament? I kind of recall them changing the format a year or so ago and they have a tournament.
Does each team play the same amount of games, or do you have to keep winning to play more games? How many games are the Spurs scheduled to play?
I definitely would like to get more of a look at some of these young guys like JaMychal Green. I don't think I need to see any more of Ayres.

Teams will seeded after today's games. All teams will play at least two more games:

Funny that Udoka chose to use the word "rest" to describe sitting these two. If anything, these guys have had too much rest but whatever PR jargon gets them off the court and gets Green in is fine by me.

Spurs usually raid other d-league teams for talent. DGreen, Othyus Jeffers, Garrett Temple, and Steve Novak all came from other d-league teams. The only callup I can remember from the Toros who spent more than a 10 day was Hairston.
The Spurs have gone out of their way to bring everyone back. Unless there is a team that makes them a STUPID good offer, they'll roll into the playoffs with the team that leaves camp.

The Spurs' predilection to raid the bargain bin is well-documented, but I think it's the first time they're locking up more than one D-League prospect, the most notable being Josh Howard, whom they signed and released after whiffing on Corey Maggette. I wasn't talking about shipping out cogs from the championship rotation but more like the end-of-the-bench guys (not going to drop names because some people might take offense). Besides, even if it weren't sensible, it's still possible they trade anyone from the team not named Parker, Duncan, Ginobili, or Leonard. There still are teams that make stupid good offers.

Re: Church of JaMychal Green
Ayres - 6' 8.75" 6' 10" 240 7' 1" 8' 11" 5.5 31.0 35.0
J.Green- 6' 8" 6' 9" 217 7' 2.25" 8' 10.5" 9.8 29.5 32.5
Just watched some clips of him and he seems to have a lot more mobility and length than Ayres.
He definitely has a 1.25" advantage over Ayres in winspan and just .5" less standing reach. Green also seems to have better shooting and a better handle.
If Green is a replacement for Ayres, then I'm definitely all for it. I don't know exactly what the staff so in Ayres.

there's more than one JMG vid.
He looks awfully good to me, post up, crashing boards, rebounding, short and long jumpers, for 6.9" ???. Why hasn't somebody signed him before now?
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
As a hustle guy, JaMychal Green is as good as it gets. In the Summer League he had so many put back dunks, so many aggressive rebounds, steals, and blocks...all that good stuff.
But the Spurs run a system, and I have no idea where JaMychal Green fits in offensively. Can he shoot 3's? Can he hit that mid-range jumper that he so rarely took during Summer league? Can he play in the post despite giving 4-5 inches to whoever is in there guarding him? I dunno. He's got to find his niche offensively, and it's going to be difficult without having any particular area of skill besides trying hard and hustling. I like him and want him to succeed, but every Spur has to be a threat offensively in order to help space the floor. And I don't know if JaMychal Green can do that right now. I hope he works on that 3 ball a lot this summer...
-
Re: Church of JaMychal Green
The Spurs don't usually rely on their PF or C to make 3s (with the notable exception of Bonner). But he boxes out and gets those rebounds that we need from a big. He seems to have that permanent motor that gives him a lot of put backs and moves pretty good off the pick and roll--against SL competition.
I hope he makes it because I love a guy who hustles like that kid, but he'll have to beat out a veteran like Ayers or Bonner to stay with the team.

FYI, Baynes made Howard his bitch two seasons ago in the first round of the playoffs. I do think Ayres is terrible and would be willing to give Green a shot, but Baynes and Bonner are valuable players for the Spurs in certain matchups when the team is at full strength.

And the Spurs can take players from other teams. I figure that will change somewhat once every NBA team has a single D-League affiliate.

Knicks also interested:
With the 10-day contracts of forwards Lance Thomas and Lou Amundson expiring next week, the Knicks have expressed interest in Austin D-Leaguer, JaMychal Green, a 6-foot-9 big man out of Alabama who has notched a double-double in all 15 games.

Wait for the contract details. My guess is that this move is not about this season and that J Green will be assigned right back to Austin.

Re: Church of JaMychal Green
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – JaMychal Green will likely sign with the San Antonio Spurs after departing Friday from their affiliate team at the 2015 NBA D-League Showcase, sources told Yahoo Sports.
What’s holding up the Spurs’ plan to sign Green is they currently have the maximum 15 players on their roster and need to create roster space. The Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have also expressed interest in signing the free-agent forward, a source said. Green, 24, is averaging 23 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists this season for the Austin Spurs of the NBA Development League.
The 6-foot-9, 220-pounder participated in the Spurs’ training camp, but was cut Oct. 22. Green, who played college basketball at Alabama, spent time in the off-season working with the Spurs' renowned shooting coach Chip Engelland.
