NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
IMHO it should be in San Antonio.
That is almost a tradition for the Champions to open the season in their home town.
And they should have the ring ceremony at that game in their home town too.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
wtf, it should open with the Spurs receiving their rings. I don't usually get into the ":cry the media doesn't like us" but the Spurs are the champs. They should be given the respect of opening at home and receiving their rings instead of being just the antagonist in Lebron's comeback story.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Cavs at Heat is a much much much better story line.
Actually Heat beating Cavs in the playoffs would be the best story line of the season if it happened. A little bit of luck is needed but if Manu/Duncan can turn back the clock, a motivated, much younger Wade can do the same . . .
It is funny how Spurs has been LeBron's #1 rival since he came into the league. 2007 was the prelude to The Decision and 2014 ended Miami big three. Throw in a legendary series in 2013, just amazing!
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Going by past precedent, the Spurs are the one team assured of opening the season at home.
I could see the Spurs playing at home on Oct. 28 or 29, with Spurs @ Cavs being the Cavs home opener (or even season opener) two days later.

I agree 100%. They probably want the Cavs to open at home though with all the drama of LeBron's first game back in Cleveland so I don't think a Spurs-Cavs opener is gonna happen.
EDIT:

Unless they go with this.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
I don't think that rumor is true. If anything the game would be at SA. Champions always start at home.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Yea, we'll probably open here against who knows and then travel right to Cleveland in a back to back the next day for there opener to ensure a loss for us being that "we'll be tired". Flipping bastards. That's what's gonna happen I'm sure.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
The champs always have a home opener. If anything Bulls at Cavs or Cavs at Heat would be the opener for them.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
The last 13 champions (and 14 of the last 15) have all opened the following season at home. The last champion to open on the road was the 2000 Lakers, who opened the 2000-01 season at Portland. But that's a fairly recent change -- between 1980 and 1998 (really, the start of the 1999 lockout season), the defending champion opened on the road 9 times (and at home only 10 times). During that span the Bulls opened at home in the regular season following their titles only once (1991) and the Lakers opened 3 of their 5 seasons as defending champions on the road, too.
Here's the full list of openers for defending champions from 1980 through 1998:
1980 LAL at Seattle
1981 BOS v. Washington
1982 LAL v. Golden State
1983 PHI v. Washington
1984 BOS at Detroit
1985 LAL at San Antonio
1986 BOS v. Washington
1987 LAL v. Seattle
1988 LAL at Dallas
1989 DET v. New York
1990 DET v. Milwaukee
1991 CHI v. Philadelphia
1992 CHI at Cleveland
1993 CHI at Charlotte
1994 HOU v. New Jersey
1995 HOU v. Golden State
1996 CHI at Boston
1997 CHI at Boston
1998 CHI at Utah

It will probably be the 4th game in 5 days and played in Clev. Pop will sit out the entire starting lineup.

Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
It would be a touch of irony for it to be played in San Antonio against the Cavs and have the ring ceremony just before the game to taunt James a little.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Silver is gonna get on a shit list very quickly if he makes the Spurs open on the road and not give them their proper ring night. it's complete bullshit if that happens and a blatant slap in the face in favor of sucking Lebron off again.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Cleveland is gonna give raise a "thank you San Antonio" banner imo

Danny Green
Kyle Anderson
Matt Bonner
Tiago Splitter

It should be Heat @ Spurs.
If they open with Cavs/Spurs it is just further evidence that it was never about the Miami Heat, nor the Super Friends, but all about Mr. James.

Is the sky blue on your world, because it IS all about James. It was in Cleveland, it followed him to Miami, and will now follow him back to Cleveland.

Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Would love to see LA @ Spurs for the opener. Good for ratings-whores with the "return of Kobe" and be nice to see him watch Duncan get that fifth ring.

Bingo,,, Lets crush Kobrick and Laker fans right out of the gate,,, Let Kobrick witness the best player of their generation coming off a title.

Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Last season Boston @ Miami & before that Was Miami @ Dallas as the opener!
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Bring on anyone. I just hope we play at home.

My birthday is the 29th, so I plan to be in San Antonio that week. I live in Florida, and have never been to a Spurs game in person, so I'm looking forward to being there at the T to see them get their rings and open the season with a big win.
GO SPURS GO!!!!!

Man im still high off number 5. I don't care if we open the season in the Hefner mansion dammit we are the champs!
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Lets play them but it needs to be in SA for the ring ceremony obviously. WTH is the difference for ratings whether it's in Cleveland or not?
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
The story is Lebron coming home and the Cleveland crowd's response to his return. That story isn't the same if the Cavaliers open on the road. That's why Cleveland is absolutley going to open at home and on national TV.

The response is the same in Cleveland on opening night there.. The TV ratings will not be affected one bit if this is on the road..
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
How is Cleveland's responds to him coming home a story BTW? He is going to get cheered anyone expect otherwise? Not much drama on that one..

Oh I know it is. But I figured that the league might at least pretend at the premise that it's about the team.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
I don't actually believe this rumor. It is non-credible in the extreme to me.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
It would be pretty fucking incredible for the NBA to treat their own champion as second fiddle to Lebron returning to Cleveland. A total slap in the face, tbh. If the NBA wants Spurs/Cavs as it's opener, it should be in SA.

They could just do a doubleheader and make the Spurs the late game.. The biggest game for Lebron is not VS us it is VS the Heat..
Cavs/Heat in Cleveland and Spurs/OKC in SA..

I'd rather start the season against the Lakers in San Antonio.

That giant sucking sound will be all the good will for Adam Silver in San Antonio drying up.

I'm not afraid of OKC. The only time they beat us in the playoffs, they got the benefit of three straight terribly officiated games in their favor to accomplish it. Including Ibaka getting away with over a dozen goaltends, and them getting multiple instances of 8-10 free throws in 4-6 possessions when SA was locking them down late in games. Plus the 12-15 FTA spans 5 minutes they were getting whenever they needed it. And they still had James Harden who played the best series of his career.
OKC is good but they still aren't beating a healthy Spurs team. Kick the hornets nest all fuckin day imo. Fuck 'em.

Lets not forget the refs not calling all the times Westbrook went out of bounds when he stole the ball.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Not to mention OKC being able to get away with murder on the defensive end.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
Champions in the past have played in the road...This is not a big deal:lol
But the spurs could use some sort of motivation I guess, NOt that this should be some sort of motivation..
If they play cleveland and lose, IMO, that should at least give them the motivation to show the world that they are there too

Man that was some major bullshit right there. Totally forgot about that garbage. OKC gets the most ref help I've EVER seen. Even more than the Lakers used to get, and that's fucking saying something

The Spurs retiring that piece of shit fisher and that faggot battier was almost as wonderful as winning the championship.

I can't see Silver being that short sighted, but if it happens, I see Pop totally resting the big three due to old age and telling the NBA to go fuck itself.
-
Re: NBA schedule could tip with Spurs at Cavaliers
I saw on Twitter earlier today that it was likely that the Spurs were opening at home for the ring ceremony against either the Cavs, Heat, or Thunder. I'll see if I can find it. One of the Spurs' beat writers RT'd it.

Hell fucking yeah...gotta add that to the list of Spurs accomplishments this season...sending DFish into retirement with a huge L. :lol
