Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Simple question for you Spurs fans
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Please stop it. Shit's getting ridiculous now. :lol
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
That didn't really answer the question
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
'05 Manu was the second coming of Jesus, I thought this was already established.
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
2005 Manu helped his team win a championship.
2013 Parker couldn't quite get his team to a championship.
???
Profit.

Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
2013 Parker was an MVP candidate. Has Manu ever even been considered for an NBA MVP in his entire career?

Off the top of my head: '07/'08, '10/'11 and I know I'm forgetting some other seasons.
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
'07 was the year that his ankle was shit in the playoffs right? When Fisher elbow dropped Barry and we didn't get the call?
-

-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Just thought about it, but both of the years you mentioned Gino was hurt in the playoffs. lol That crazy argentinian bastard.
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
As far as stats during regular season, Manu's best seasons were 07/08 and 10/11.
But Manu's 2004/05 (Olympics + playoffs run) is just...WOW.
Tony Parker was amazing in 2013, but Manu's 05 season was as they said before, close to JESUS haha

Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Tony Parker-
2012-2013
PPG-20.6
APG-7.6-
P.E.R.-23.0
True Shooting % -58.8
Postseason
PPG-20.6
APG-7.0
P.E.R.-21.5
True Shooting %-52.1
---------------------------------------
Manu Ginobili
2004-2005
PPG-15.1
APG-3.6
P.E.R.-22.3
True Shooting %-.593
Postseason
PPG-20.6
APG-4.2
P.E.R.-22.4
True Shooting %-.593
In terms of raw production, Parker was better. When looking at P.E.R. and TS% Ginobili was better.
From what i remember Parker had a better season. He was fantastic that year.

That would be quite honestly be reserved for 03 Tim Duncan TBH.

Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Ginobili finished in MVP voting 10th in 07/08 and 8th in 10/11. Hell he even finished 18 in defensive player of the year in 05

2013 Parker. When you are getting MVP considering when LeBron James and Kevin Durant are in their primes you are an elite player
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
2005 Manu mainly because he didn't choke in the Finals like 2013 Parker

Wait...What?
The gap in raw stats is due to minutes. Parker played 5 more minutes per game.
The advanced stats are actually pretty similar.
Parker had a better regular season. Ginobili had a better post season run.
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Somebody should make a 2014 Parker vs. 2014 Ayres thread, tbh:lol..
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Spurs won the championship and Manu showed up in game 7 of the 2005 finals... So u have to pick Manu
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
2013 Manu vs 2014 preseason Sam Young
DO IT!!

Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
2011 Manu was the only one that was actually running the offense full time
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Parker's performance in regular season and playoffs was far more dominating. It's not even close.
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Manu's best season had an average of 17ppg & 4apg in the playoffs and season...
Close this thread. It's insulting to TP

TP had one year where he got MVP votes. Ginobili had 3... all coming off the bench.

Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Man back in '05, Manu could simply take over a game.
His raw agility jumping speed quickness and offensive creativity plus defensive instincts and playmaking.. plus his passion and hunger
He was like a lightweight Pacquiao
I remember thinking to myself, Manu is playing like he is 2 seconds ahead of everyone.
We don't win game 7 against the Pistons without Manu being stupendous, they didn't have anyone to negate him.
Parker was tearing it up in 2013, I remember he strung a bunch of 30 point games together or high assist with low to and efficient scoring, plus just learning how to exert his will
But I recall Manu that year dropping several amazing and sublime games, where he was the best man on the floor.. the way he played... and had 3 Finals games where he was critical to the win, ala Kawhi this year.
I think Manu reached a higher level of game in '05 than Parker '13,
but Parker still can get more cerebral with his game... I think he has another zenith in his future, when a man reaches his mental physical spiritual mixture of peak levels..
He's been playing long enough, where he understands the game intimately, the inner form of it... he's had brilliant mentors and coaches, all time-greats as teammates, Parker started so young that all those parts of him are still coming to be, he's still not fully bloomed yet.

And '05 Spurs were the slow defensive minded Spurs, '13 Spurs were a an offensive minded fast paced team.

He had a game at Brooklyn were he single-handle torched the Nets with 29 points 11 assists 0 turnovers. I think he also had a 31 point 7 assist game at LAC in a blowout win.
He was lights out that year, not to mention torching Memphis for 18 assists in Game 1 and 37 points in game 2 of the WCF

Manu was ballin' in 05. Dude took over in the Seattle series (It was G5 i believe after the Sonics tied the series). That series should've gone 7 had it not been for Manu & Tim. Tim dominated in the WCF though.
I'd still take Manu 05 over Parker 13 tbh. Don't forget how the Spurs struggled on offense during that time.

In 07/08 Manu had back to back 37 point games then went on a streak and scored 34,46,18,44 and 30. Manu was insane that year.

Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Parker's performances in 2012/13 ultimately didn't count for anything, whereas Ginobili's play in the 2005 Finals essentially won us the Championship. Thus, I'd say Ginobili by a considerable distance.
-
Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Ginobili could keep it up un the Playoffs in 2005, Parker couldn´t do it in 2013.

:lol in 2005 Tim was in his prime, Tim won us the championship.
I'd take Manu 05 too btw but :lol @ considerable distance

That was a really, really close series. Without Manu's standout performances, I'm not sure even Tim's efforts could've got us that Championship. And that's not a knock on TD, by any means.

but it is still more valid to say Tim won us 2005 than Manu won us 2005

Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
2013 Parker did it being the #1 option, and put the Spurs up 5 with 28 seconds until some bald guy fucked everything up.
05 Manu did it being a role player off the bench and being the 3rd option.
-

That's fair... and I remember the sickening belief I had Manu threw game 6 for whatever reason, with his 8 heinous turnovers at the worst times to happen.
But Also in 05... Manu by just how the series unfolded... Became the 2nd and sometimes first Option, While Duncan did his Best against the Wallaces, and Tony Parker was struggling as per par back then...
I taped every game of that series... and in GAME 7 (I was freaking out Spurs always won in 6 lol) in 3rd quarter with the game at like 61-57 Spurs, closely contested, that's when Manu went to work and took it home for us.

Re: Better player: 05 Manu or 13 Parker?
Tony sh!ts on Manu on volume stats (Total, per game), MVP votes (see above), all-star (6 to 2), all-nba (3 2nd team and 1 3rd team to 2 3rd team)
Manu sh!ts on Tony on per 36 min, advanced, shooting and defensive stats
Depends on what you need. A consitent first option or an efficient closer / spark
Good things for the spurs is that they work great together

Not quite sure I'd agree tbh. Manu could've easily been MVP of that series (and probably should've been, in my view).

Just curious, but who is the "consistent first option" in this argument?..

Not mad son, I just figured a Spurs fan would know Manu played like 99.9% of that season as a starter, tbh.

Parker was the first option in 2013. And he was pretty consistent in 2013.
Manu was the efficient closer / spark in 2005 with Duncan being the first option.
Which one of thoses 2 things you disagree?

he was actually voted for Finals MVP in 2005, lost to Duncan. Manu 2005 > TP 2013 - is not even up for discussion

'08 Manu was better than both
