Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
2010-11 was a low point for Timmy Dunks and the Spurs.
His perennial legit All Pro numbers dropped to all time lows.
We were swept in the 2nd round by Phoenix. Swept. That's the kind of crap that happens to Kirby Bryant.
He had a coach who didn't have a clue.
He had a point guard who hung out with rap phaggots instead of working on his game.
We could go on.
Duncan may or may not have had that German orthokine treatment, regardless Duncar came back in 11-12 and especially 12-13 looking vastly better. That carried into last years Champ run.
I have no problem with LeBron being the reg season MVP, he was. Nor Kawhi being the Finals MVP, he was. But truth is the fact that Duncan was even in the conversation speaks volumes to how well he played at age 38.
Can Duncan, come back not only "okay" a year older, but actually have a performance as good as last years Championship run?
We've already got reports of Duncan hitting the offseason workout regime.

Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
Probably, if he can hit jump shots. He missed a lot of those last season. The NBA has a dearth of bigs that can actually post up, rebound, and block shots. For this reason, a Tim Duncan that has lost a lot of his athleticism can still compete and be one of the best bigs in the game.

Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
I dont know you better ask him.
-
Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
The majority of his work came from using his smarts around the rim (on offense)...He can continue this as long as he wants. The defense, specifically weak side help, is where I have concerns.

Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
Spurs got swept the year the Lakers won the championship. 2010-11 was when Dallas beat Miami.

Really?
I haven't looked at the playoff charts.
Seemed like he was hitting them at a good clip.

Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
I'll not bet against the HoFer who is already in the gym prepping for the title defense.
-
Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
Considering Duncan played only 3/5 of the game, it is possible. Next year will be interesing considering Duncan's age.
-
Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
Kareem played well at the age of 38-40. I think as long as he doesn't get injured he will be himself , but the defense is slipping. You might see him off the court more in certain situations next year, but he will continue to contribute.

Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
This reminds me of Boxing..
Is anyone familiar with Miguel Cotto???
After the Margarito beating, and then PACMAN hunting him down and forcing a TKO
it really looked like his career is over.
But he's having a renaissance, he just became the Lineal Middleweight Champion of the World.
It didn't happen overnight, he had to find new trainers, become more Cagey, but..
I really think some exceptional people, can Have a Second Peak, in the twilight of their career.
Someone should go do research, I bet they turn over some really amazing stuff... information that if we studied, we could apply to our own lives.

sup Fabbs.... you coming to the Pollyanna Poppers's reunion to celebrate Pop's COTY and #5?
If you are, we wouldn't mind you bringing some shortbread cookies, tbh

Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
He's still a top 10 player in the league. There aren't many guys who are capable of taking over playoff games against good teams like he did against OKC

Tim duncan = the pyramids of egypt. Always there. Always impressive.

He was above average 2 seasons ago. I think he only hit like 37% of his jumpers last year which below average. It was a reason why our starting unit struggled in the RS at times. Parkers dropoff and Greens rough stretches and injuries this season were also factors plus Kawhi shot like 25% from 3 for the first quarter of the season.

Well, If he doesn't lose some point blank range shots, I think it's ok...

Tim Duncan is still the best all around post player in the league when it really counts. He has a switch he can turn on after sometimes coasting. Only the rare greats have it....that clutch gene. He is still an excellent post defender. He's adequate in space but cant move as good laterally anymore because of the knee.

Timmy will be fine.
As for Cotto, what are you talking about?
He got beat by Austin Trout recently after PacMan fight you speak off, then beat some bum, then cherry picked the Linear Middleweight Champion (Martinez) who was coming off 2 knee surgeries and now moves at 2/3 the speed he used to (and has no balanced because he wears 2 knee braces).
The pre-doubleKneeBraceCantMove Martinez would have comatosed Cotto in the recent fight.
Give me a break.

True.
If anyone says otherwise, let's hear who it is.
Dwight Howard? I'm not a Howard hater, altho he is a bit of a puss and did not have as good teamates as Duncan, he's still 10 freaking years younger and still couldn't get over.
Bosh? We saw the outcome.
Hibbert? Was looking good but had severe brain cramps vs Miami.
Duncan. I think he can do it again if he stays healthy. Would love to know what his offseason workout is.

Re: Can Tim Duncan repeat last years performance?
He can, imo. He still is an excellent rebounder and rim protector.
Btw: Does someone know where I can look up advanced stats regarding Duncan's pick&roll defense?

Yea for certain Martinez was ripe for the picking.... But I would have thought Cotto's career was dead after Manny Chased him down for the TKO...
My point was that... possibly you can have a second peak, in the twilight of your career... and just off the top of my head Cotto came to mind... From Pacman to giving a decent fight against Mayweather, to his Dominant Wind albeit a way faded and still lingering injured Martinez.

Yea Duncan can Still take over a Game for at Least a Half, He did it last year in.... game 6 of the Finals if I recall... He was almost flawless.

Cotto should have died after the Margarito fight. The guy had concrete hands, remember? Then he takes on a fully functional pacman, that was stupid scheduling. He was wasted. He gave Mayweather a very good fight. He has hung and is relevant considering the awful poundings he took.
Duncan however is a beast all his own. He has shown the world that skill overcomes athleticism.
Kareem was really awful on D by this age. The refs let him hip heck players constantly blowing by him.
Duncans timing on blocks below the rim is still amazing.
