SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – JaMychal Green will likely sign with the San Antonio Spurs after departing Friday from their affiliate team at the 2015 NBA D-League Showcase, sources told Yahoo Sports.
What’s holding up the Spurs’ plan to sign Green is they currently have the maximum 15 players on their roster and need to create roster space. The Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have also expressed interest in signing the free-agent forward, a source said. Green, 24, is averaging 23 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists this season for the Austin Spurs of the NBA Development League.
The 6-foot-9, 220-pounder participated in the Spurs’ training camp, but was cut Oct. 22. Green, who played college basketball at Alabama, spent time in the off-season working with the Spurs' renowned shooting coach Chip Engelland.

Signed 3 year deal with the Grizzlies.
Good for him. I remember at the end of the spurs 10 day contract people asked, why didn't the spurs sign him to another 10. If i remember correctly the spurs made an offer of somewhat but the Grizzlies outbid for him. This would support that account. They must really like him to give him a guaranteed two year deal of any amount. That's not a d-league type contract. Or maybe it's just that the spurs are real stingy and im used to that.
You misread.
"...the two sides reached a deal for the remainder of the season guaranteed and two additional years."
This year guaranteed (it has to be, we're beyond the guarantee date) and the next two not. Pretty standard d-league callup contract. All of the options belong to and favor the team.
I guess so. It's not the clearest sentence. But from a logic standpoint i think you are right.
I think he probably just thought he'd have a better shot at PT with Memphis.
