What would be your defensive and offensive strategy going against these teams?
Let's play coach...
Memphis
- Splitter should start with TD to neutralize their offensive options. Bonner should see minutes to space the floor out..
- Put Leonard on Conley so as to force the Grizz to play offense through Jeff Green...Help on the post and the drive.
- TD post ups should be avoided..Will play Patty significant minutes and probably put Joseph in the doghouse.
- Belli will be really useful in this series, IMO.
Warriors.
- Defensively, Stay with your man..Don't help on the drive.
- Less focus on offensive rebounds and more on transition defense.
- Parker should attack, if he still can..Otherwise, Leonard and Manu should be pushing...
- Two years ago Leonard wiped out Thompson..Put Danny on Curry.
- Belli will probably be useless in this series..Joseph to give Danny some breather
Dallas
Houston
Hawks
Bulls

Re: What would be your defensive and offensive strategy going against these teams?
CoJo would be huge against the Dubs, especially if Tony can't do anything; his ability to drive to the rim and guard multiple positions is what the Spurs will need most.

Re: What would be your defensive and offensive strategy going against these teams?
Dallas:
-Make Rondo beat you from the perimeter and sell out on their real shooters.
-Leonard needs to take it to Parsons on every possession with extra aggressiveness.
-We need to break down the Mavs' 2-3 Zone early on in games with good dribble penetration, making the extra passes and not forcing shots that may look good at first
-We can't afford to constantly be giving this team second chance opportunities.

Yeah I have him playing over Belli against the warriors but have belli over him against the grizz..
I don't know..Seems like teams dont respect diaw with his three...I'd play bonner
-
Re: What would be your defensive and offensive strategy going against these teams?
Hope Pop don't try to use the regular-season-defensive assignments against the Dubs in playoffs, like he did the first games of the last series.
This season, they were Tony on Curry, Danny on Klay and Kawhi on Barnes, we won but that probably won't work in playoffs.

The same way Pop didn't use Green and Leonard on them in the RS two years ago but changed it in the playoff..Pop almost never shows his ace tbh..

Teams don't respect Bonner with tying his shoes, let alone his basketball game.

Meh..
Bonner played a significant role in the 13 series...

...Until the game 5 or 6. In those series against Warriors, Mavs, Thunder, it took three or four games but Pop made the right adjustments on D.

Pop made the adjustment in game 3 against the warriors if I recall correctly.

Like this thread. Wonder about people's take on Houston. They seem to be a tough match up. Howard plays like a beast against us with only his piss poor ft's to offset it. We took care of them last time they came to visit, but Taliban got it going late. Kawhi on Taliban?

I'd say green on Harden..He's had better success than kawhi..Plus, with Green guarding james, Kawhi can focus on defensive boards to attack the transition before Howard is set to defend the paint.

Yeah hard to argue with that. Using Kawhi to rebound and attack their transition d is a very good call. That's why Pop chooses transition defense above offensive boards as well.

Meh...we easily won that series and Bonner averaged just under 18 minutes a game, playing a lot of garbage time and having the second worst defensive rating of any player that played over 70 minutes in that series (after Bobo who at least compensated for that in other areas on offense). He also had a real plus minus of 0.5. That's not a significant role.
-
Re: What would be your defensive and offensive strategy going against these teams?
bonner is not there to really do anything..He's just there to open up space.
I like diaw, but the Issue with him is that teams don't respect his three as much as matt..Matt has been awful shooting the three, but so long as teams respect his three, that should be enough space..15-20 minutes is really all we need from Matt...
-

When he keeps proving he can't shoot for Shit in the playoffs, do you really want to risk going back to that strategy and expect teams to keep falling for it? And let's not forget the gaping hole he is defensively.

He's not there to shoot relax..:lol

Then why would that open up the lane?

Because teams have consistently shown respect to matt even if he missed his shots..If he even makes 1 out of 3, they're going to stick a defender on him...

So basically, it's depending on a team's stupidity? :lol You still have yet to acknowledge the black hole he is on defense. But whatever, I've given my points with stats to disprove your initial claim he played a key role in '13 while you're just inflating his "talents" and using generalities. Other than that, you made some good points in your other arguments and so let's stick to that.

Re: What would be your defensive and offensive strategy going against these teams?
I see some of you would like to see kawhi on harden but that fucker draws so many fouls and he still gets the Thunderrefs treatment with bullshit calls in his favor. Wouldn't it be wiser to keep Green on him most of the time with situational uses of Kawhi on him?
-
Re: What would be your defensive and offensive strategy going against these teams?
Bonner is not going to play 30 minutes..

Never said or thought he would. You're not convincing me one bit about that bum. Let's stick back to the topic at hand. The more I look at these matchups, the more the Bulls worry me.

Re: What would be your defensive and offensive strategy going against these teams?
Frontcourt match-up:
Bonner on Randolph
Tiago on Dirk
Tiago on Aldridge
Baynes on Howard
Diaw on Griffin
Baynes on Adams
Diaw on Lee

I agree, Bonner has a little role on the team but he fucking sucks. He can do this or that in in bits and pieces but if you rely on him more than that he has proven he is a playoff choker and misses shots and just doesn't do shit overall.
More BONNER is not GOOD, never is good and never will be good as proven. Last year he did what? Thats right started one half and the rest of the time was glued to the bench sides a matchup here or there or garbage time, where he belongs.

YES, the Bulls are a very tough match up and me and you agree dead on 100% about Bonner it seems and I enjoyed reading you calling him a bum. I can't stand the guy as a player personally, never was a fan.

Thank you. The day he retires, I will celebrate as if we won another Championship. Thing is, I'm not sure he'll ever fucking leave.

I waited for years, when he was a FA before and they said they would not re sign him in reports in 09 or 10 I was so damn happy and then he was back........ Then more starting and more mins the next few years and sub par playoffs and early exits when he was starting. When they started to go away from him more and more they go further and further, last year won it all with him on the bench mostly and that proved to me less Bonner is far better (Which I knew). He is a bum IMO, he spreads the floor blah blah blah, but he doesn't seem to hit shots even when he does and doesn't do much else sides so called spread the floor. He can shoot during the regular season from three yes, but he puts the ball on the floor it's a bad thing and he is not good on D IMO as quicker guys blow by him at will.

No cross matching at the 1. Parker has to guard Curry with Green guarding Barnes and Leonard on Thompson. The Spurs have a good chance of neutralizing both of them. Diaw should have a good match up with Green. Duncan and Bogut will probably cancel each other out when they are sharing the floor.
