Heard vs Swoopes looked about the same to me except possibly he cannot take a hit. No QB can play with that OL and Watson;s calls.

It was Heard's first game. And the offense moved better in one series with Heard than Swoopes. Swoopes held on to the ball too long, and instead of making reads was looking dead at the oncoming rushers.

Re: 2016 Texas Longhorns Recruiting Thread
If Strong isn't willing to make changes to his staff, then he needs to go. He holds players accountable but not his coaches.
-
Re: 2016 Texas Longhorns Recruiting Thread
It was unfortunate Heard was hurt on the first series. It seemed he just had the wind knocked out of him which is why they threw Swoopes back in and seemingly gave Heard less of a chance thereafter. I think the defense will improve I just believe we faced a truly superior offensive line which we knew going in. What was disheartening was seeing an offense similar to what we had last year. Poor reads from Swoopes, poor offensive line play and questionable play calling. If I was Strong I'd roll with Heard from here on out. Swoopes is still the same. He simply makes too many mistakes and holds on to the ball way too long. Even when he decides to run he's not fast enough getting to the edge and making cuts.

Re: 2016 Texas Longhorns Recruiting Thread
The constant Heard/Swoopes talk is puzzling to me. No QB can operate successfully under pressure that Swoopes was under all night. I've played and coached a lot of football and can't remember ever seeing a QB having so little time to make a decision before a defender was in his face. Tom Brady would struggle under those circumstances. Heard may be better suited to run from the constant pressure but the coaches aren't starting him for a reason (he struggled through fall and has had hard time grasping playbook).

Swoopes doesn't even look at his receivers when the pocket is collapsing

You said it yourself, chronic...Heard is a better option against pressure. If he's having trouble with the playbook then the offense should be adjusted to play to his strengths...a healthy does of zone read and some fast underneath stuff/screens to beat the pressure. Moving the pocket would help too.

I'd rather see Heard cash and burn than have to endure one more second of Swoopes.

I think Heard has a quicker release on the balls he throws. That's not something to overlook. It means the screens plays are more effective because he can get the ball in the hands of the receiver with more time and space to make a move upfield like we saw with his only pass of the night in the ND game. Plus, he is so much better of a runner than Swoopes.

Thank goodness for my Judson Rockets, cause my Texas Longhorns are a complete eyesore......I can't wait to see my Dallas Cowboys.

on game? this is the same bullshit QB play we have been watching for 6 years now. This is the same bullshit OL play we have been watching for 6 years. On defense, ND receivers were wide freakin open. There is no excuse for receivers to be so open so often. Also, the over-pursuit was bad. I know ND has a very good OL, but they just manhandled our DL. I am disgusted by this crap. I hate going into a game feeling hopeless about our success......and that is how I have been feeling as of late.

Everyone is allowed to vent frustration and I get that. We were going to lose this game no matter what. I know people wanted offensive movement, but that is a DAMN GOOD Notre Dame team that we just weren't ready to face in game one (especially in that environment). Am I frustrated about the offense? you bet your ass I am, but I temper my frustration knowing that is a top 5 team in my book. They're experienced, disciplined and GOOD. That secondary was locked on our young receiver corps and the front seven played smart. They attacked our freshman O-lineman on every play and rightfully so. Vahe and Williams will win their share of matchups, this wasn't one of them. The offensive line for ND is the best O-line we will face all year. Good teams will have one, maybe two guys that will play on Sundays. ND has a legitimate 4 guys that will be playing in the NFL and they're experienced at the college level (meaning they've worked together for a couple of years now).
I'm not trying to pump sunshine up everyone's ass, but give it a couple of games against similar talent to see where we are. We are certainly not at the level of ND, Alabama, or Ohio State. We are a fringe 2nd tier team with upside. Nothing more, nothing less.
If we played Western Illinois University and beat them 46-10 we would all be praising this team. However, that would be fools gold, imo. This game shows us that we're not at that level and we need time and development or that changes need to be examined before conference play play (coaches and players). It's a process, process, process. However, people want instant results in today's world. If we still stink after Cal, then it's time to push the alarm button.

We gave them almost zero resistance. That score could have been 56-0. We are not second tier. Second tier by my definition would put up a fight and then wear down. We were steamrolled.
And then we have the nerve to bark at them near the end of the game and tackle them way out of bounds?
Not what I want to see.

List is much longer than this, but I think the concerns are warranted.
-Texas is averaging 6.6 points in their last three games and have been outscored 117-20.
-that's the fifth time under Strong that Texas has scored less than 10 points. It only happened six times from 2000-2013.
-since the beginning of last year, they've gone three-and-out 78 times for third most in the FBS. That's 33% of their possessions.
-they are currently dead last in the FBS for total offensive output after Week 1.
-there was no "up-tempo" in our new up-tempo offense.

That quote made me cringe.
I fear Swoopes starts against Rice and we dig ourselves in too big a hole.
And I mean 10 points or more.

Re: 2016 Texas Longhorns Recruiting Thread
Doesn't matter who they have at QB; Texas's O-line and D-line play has been abysmal for 4 or 5 years now. Priority #1 in recruiting should be stocking the offensive and defensive lines with as much talent as possible.
