2016 Texas Longhorns Recruiting Thread

LB Jeffrey McCulloch of Aldine Davis talks about his weekend in Austin (24/7):

“One of my favorite parts was just walking around with the players and hanging out with them,” McCulloch said. ”I had a lot of fun with Malik (Jefferson) and those guys. I loved it. It was just a great time and a great experience.”

“With Coach Strong being a defensive-minded coach, I feel like I could really see myself playing for him,” McCulloch said. “He’s a great coach overall, and I like the fact that he’s trying to build something great at Texas.”

“They said that they could see me playing all three linebacker spots,” McCulloch said. “That would be good for me because I’m a versatile player. I wouldn’t have a problem playing any of the spots.”

Update on ATH Lil'Jordan Humphrey of Southlake Carroll (24/7):

“My favorite part of the visit was just getting to know the coaches,” Humphrey said. “I liked Coach (Sterlin) Gilbert a lot. He said they like how big I am. He said that I’m a versatile player, so I can move around a little.”

“My meeting with Coach Strong went great,” Humphrey said. “He just said that I have a lot of upside and that they could utilize me if I go there.”

“There isn’t another school in the nation like Texas and with the fan support of Texas,” he said. “Both (Cal and Texas) offer a great education and have great football. It’s kind of hard to compare the two.”

DT Marcel Southall (Duncanville)

Per Inside Texas, LB Dontavious Jackson of Alief Elsik has set an unofficial visit to UT for January 29th.

A lot of twists and turns in his recruitment lately. Charlie gets to make the last impression on him and hopefully seal the deal. I like how the LBs are looking into the future.

24/7 reporting Strong will have his in-home visit with RB Kyle Porter today.

Also, Coach Vaughn will be visiting LB Dontavious Jackson.

Flipping him would really make this class special. However, I'm surprised he is rate so high based on the footage I've seen of him.

Burton of 24/7 just crystal balled DT Chris Daniels, DT Marcel Southall, DT Stephon Taylor and ATH Lil'Jordan Humphrey to Texas.

All the positive vibes from this past weekend might have pushed him over the edge to take the visit. A couple of other notes:

Per Andrew King from Braniacs: Deontay Anderson told the players that Oxford has nothing on Austin and that he is a solid 80/20 Texas as of now. He has a few more visits left.

According to 24/7, Burton just cb'ed Southall, Taylor, LJH and Daniels to Texas.

I would be most impressed if we can pull Chris Daniels over any other recruit. Mostly because we've been trending off and on with guys like Jackson, Jeffrey, Humphrey and Cuffee but Daniels is someone we reached out to not even a month ago and he all but wrote is off and now we seem to be trending for him. That would be a huge steal.

He wants to use his OV's for OOS schools. I'm not sure, but I believe he has used his OV's on Michigan, Florida State, Florida, UCLA and he'll be using his last on Alabama next weekend.

It was a "source" that made the 80/20 comment, not Deontay. Texas likely in mix now but Ole Miss still clearly team to beat.

UT is lucky with Daniels since they offered so late.

His father and Strong have some sort of connection since they're both from Arkansas.

Hopefully it pays off.
