"And for those "SMH" to buying a division champion gear, look, the team has done nothing for 17-18 years. Yeah, I'm gonna cheer for a division championship. If we were the spurs that won it year in and year out, than yeah it would be stupid to get excited over this. But houston has had nothing to be excited for in years."

Re: Clutchfans be Thirsty
Houston is pathetic, I wouldnt even buy a shirt if it had 20x Division champions on it. The division means nothing if you are a perennial loser and first round exit. I know Houston fans and they are embarassing, they are popping boners about backing their way into a meaningless division title because we lost. First round exit for those faggets.

Re: Clutchfans be Thirsty
Let that put things in perspective for you. Spurs fans have been pretty spoiled over the last 26 or so years.

Re: Clutchfans be Thirsty
As a Spurs fan I buy only buy gear when they win a title but as a Houston Texans fan I would be overjoyed to win a division title over the colts.

EVen as a Padres fan, i wouldn't get that excited. But then again, they have won the NL West 4 or 5 times in the last twenty years.

Only buy gear for Conference championships/World championships, otherwise that is pussy shit
-
Re: Clutchfans be Thirsty
I don't blame them if they are a bunch of young fans that never got to witness the rockets 2 title during the 90's then winning a division championship is going to be pretty exciting. I'm never going to get excited over the spurs winning a division title but then again I got to witness all 5 titles. On the other hand you could have spur fans 20 years from now get exciting about division titles since they didn't get get to experience the 5 titles. Its pretty much all about perspective. Now if they are old school Rox fans buying those shirts then that's pathetic.

If anything, there should be a t-shirt for the entire SW division for being so dominant. Instead of division champ, it should be champion division.
No team better than 9-7 (Rockets) or worse than Spurs (7-9), with other three at 8-8. Back out those head-to-head games and division was 221-109, winning more than 2/3 of games = 55 win pace. Unbelievable.

Houston broadcast is extremely bias, probably explains why they think like that.

Having read the thread, many Houston fans say that Kawhi played better than Harden to night.
Interestingly their forum has a 50-page thread about the MVP race... I think it shows what are their expectations in terms of a successful season.

ClutchFans and SpursTalk are virtually identical in regards to attitude and posting style, tbh:lol there are a few differences, but it's mostly the same type of content and meltdowns..every time I browse their forum, it reminds me of certain posters here:lol
They have their "this team is a fake contender" threads, anti-D'antoni threads, a small % of posters who deny Harden's greatness(like ST had with Kawhi, prior to this season, but the haters are mostly gone now), their own Green and Mills discussions(Ariza's inability to dribble and going on stretches of non-shooting, Beverley being a PG who doesn't have PG skills), etc..

Problem is, that the "system" that people like to credit for Kawhi's greatness, is also the same thing that takes away from his assist numbers. Yeah he doesn't average as many assists as Lebron or Harden, but he is always setting up his teammates who make the extra pass to the open man. He doesn't get the assist but he made the play.

Re: Clutchfans be Thirsty
"Yes and what a wonderful job they're doing. The best defensive team coached by Pop with two defensive aces on the wing (including the defensive player of the year) are holding Harden to a measly 29.8 points (on 20.75 shots), 11.8 assists, 9 rebounds.
Every possession Leonard defended Harden:
1) Harden beats him to basket, sends it to open Ariza for clanked 3.
2) Harden beats him straight up, misses an open layup. Leonard a step behind.
3) Harden drains a 3 in Leonard's face.
4) Harden passes to Gordon, Gordon turns it over.
5) Harden breaks Leonard's ankles leaving him to ponder the meaning of life, Harden goes to corner, takes a 3 over Aldridge, misses.
6) Harden misses a 3, Leonard did nothing and gave him too much space but got lucky according to Spurs announcers.
* Harden guarded by Aldridge, EMBARRASSES him, they foul him hard sending him to the line.
7) Harden BLOWS BY Leonard. Leonard recovers and blocks it to cover his own ass.
They win by 2.
I got it. I've read all the arguments. I've said my piece. We'll seem them in the 2nd round."
What game was this guy watching. Harden turned the ball over the first 3 possessions Kawhi guarded him. None of these plays happened.
-
Re: Clutchfans be Thirsty
:lol All of his points came from either 1) Aldridge/Deadman switch 2) getting Green, who can't fight screens for shit, with a pick 3) Free throws

So out of that very biased, very incorrect collection of plays that, as you said: didn't take into account the many turnovers Harden had while being guarded by Kawhi, we still get that out of 7 plays Harden scored in just 1. Way to make a point Rocketfan.:lol
-
Re: Clutchfans be Thirsty
Harden was on fire early in the game, nothing you can do when he's draining 3s like that, but he really didn't do that much(relatively speaking) once Kawhi started covering him and they finally switched the coverage against him..the repetitive switching was getting annoying..I thought it may have been Green/Aldridge miscommunication/poor decision making, at first, but it was clearly strategic, as Pop didn't say a word(usually berates Green if he makes a mistake or benches him, at least)..
These games are meant for experimenting, though..it's evident in all these games that Harden is their only weapon(:lol people who are afraid of Lou Williams)..you can say the same for the Spurs, at the moment, but at least we know Aldridge can play like a superstar when he feels like it..

Pringle's system generates mad regular season offensive stats for the PG and Harden is the beneficiary of that much more than Kawhi is.

Re: Clutchfans be Thirsty
Been trying to figure out how bad Sean is as a commentator. Lucky, Clutch Fans was there for me. It seems like the main problem they have with him is that he doesn't give Harden enough credit when they play. I don't personally see that as a problem. I think he talked plenty about Harden, but the biggest reason why Houston was carving the Spurs up was their own poor D, and Elliott harped on that.
Why exactly does Sean have such a bad reputation? I think he is biased, but he is usually tongue-in-cheek when he sees the Spurs get away with something rather than blatantly in denial that it happened. Like I watched the Warriors game last night, and the commentators watched a video where Klay clearly reached over and slapped an Atlanta player in the face, then they responded with, "All I see if that guy go down without being touched". I feel like Sean would have said, "Well we don't need to see that replay again," or "Yeah, he got with that hand there."
There are definitely more neutral teams out there, but Sean seems like a good balance between being an unabashed Spurs fan and a guy who is good at articulating what he sees (and illustrating it).

Sean does call it neutrally. I guess other teams think we are the "snobs" of the NBA. We "must be downtalking" all the time or something. They probably feel that way before he even says anything.

They've been doing this every single game against Houston this season, it's clearly strategic. Will probably do the same against Westbrook tomorrow. Supposedly this should limit penetrating and should force them to jack up 3s, which they're very happy to do. Not sure how successful it is, to my eyes test it has had very mixed results, but the coaching staff clearly like this.

That's what I noticed as well. He would say ambiguous stuff like "I'm not saying there was some contact, but I'm not saying there wasn't some contact either... *chuckles*" or " I'm going to go with the ruling on the court", etc. I think what people don't like about Sean is that he talks only about the Spurs, I don't remember that he talks too much about opponents. That's logical as he's not only a Spurs fan or homer but a Spurs insider. So it's 100% Spurs with him and fans from other teams perceive that as disrespectful.
-
Re: Clutchfans be Thirsty
Yeah, after seeing more replies to that thread, that seems to be the case. It's really pathetic on their part. Who gives a shit if Sean talks about your team. I'd rather not hear a commentator talking about the Spurs if they're just going to say generic shit or incorrect shit.
It's also pathetic that they think Harden going off had little to do with the Spurs D. It's like they didn't watch the team change their scheme and neutralize him during their comeback. That Houston has lost two big leads in a row against SA simply because the Spurs decided to try should be much more disheartening to them than it seems to be. A focused Spurs team would run train on them.

Some of the posters there see that but same as here most of the participants are rather casual fans who just happen to come from Houston or live in Houston, so they buy fully into the narrative that "shots don't fall" seemingly in a vacuum. In their view nobody ever shuts Harden down: he was tired, his shot wasn't falling, he had no help from his teammates, opponent got lucky, refs suck, etc.

Harden is easily #1 in assisted points created. When you add that number with points per game, Harden is #1 in the league over Westbrook.
Kawhi Leonard isn't even listed in this assisted points created rank. He's not even #1 on his own team (Tony Parker is).
The narrative that Leonard is a 2-way player while Harden isn't is incredibly misleading. Leonard doesn't have even remotely the playmaking skills that Harden/Westbrook/LeBron has. It's an element that's really missing from his game, and the media isn't penalizing him for it.
Harden's offensive value alone might actually be superior to Leonard's total value even with defense added.
Holy fuck.
