Game 5 Thread: Spurs at Clippers 10:30 EST (9:30 CST) Tuesday, April 28 on TNT
This is it folks, Spurs can leave LA with a nice tan and one victory away from facing the Rockets...or they can head home on the verge of playoff elimination.
Shore up the defense, hit the open shots and let's bring this thing home

Home court matter. Look at the Spurs home and away record this season.

Re: Game 5 Thread: Spurs at Clippers 10:30 EST (9:30 CST) Tuesday, April 28 on TNT
Parker tries to take over the game early and gets "injured" when he shoots 2-10 in the first half. Spurs take control and rally in the 2nd half and win by 4. Kawhi has another stellar game.
Tiago injured his calf again putting on his shoes with the wrong shoe horn. Out for rest of playoffs reconsiders his life and goes the Bruce Jenner route becoming the woman he should have always been. The doctors are surprised to find that the transition is so simple.

In the playoffs it doesnt really matter, except in game 7's. Elite teams can win on the road and at home. Home crowd only helps with ref calls and momentum down the stretch, if we play spurs ball, it doesnt really matter what the clippers do, our best is better than their best and its not even very close

How do you figure? They've been the better team the most of the series.

Come on Rob, they may have played better than us for more of the games of the series, but you know as well as anyone else that our best is way better than anybody else in the league. It is just a matter of consistency, we havent shown that all year.

For some reason, I see us pulling this series out. Even if it means we have to win a home game 7. I just cant see CPchoke and a 7 man rotation outlasting us, maybe Im crazy though :lol
-
Re: Game 5 Thread: Spurs at Clippers 10:30 EST (9:30 CST) Tuesday, April 28 on TNT
I see SA in seven. The Seven-Eight man rotation will make those jump shots tough for the older clipper guard (Crawford), the high minute guard (Paul), and the 15 minutes of fame guard (Tom Jr.). The perimeter wing defenders will also get tired chasing Kawhi (Barnes).
I don't see Kawhi getting tired and he will continue to bring it. Paul and Griffin will wear down. The Clipper will not shoot as well the remainder of this series. The Spurs will put together enough offense to get it done.
The Clippers have too much loser DNA IMHO. If they do win it will be because one of our guys gets taken out by a Clipper cheap shot from Barnes, Fat boy, or Christina Paul.

Re: Game 5 Thread: Spurs at Clippers 10:30 EST (9:30 CST) Tuesday, April 28 on TNT
For those who worry about such things, Game 5 is likely the Scott Foster/Bill Kennedy game in this series. Given tonight's assignments and all that has come earlier in this series, the only other likelihood seems to be Tony Brothers, but Foster called the game in Portland on Saturday while Brothers was in Boston on Sunday.
Zach Zarba as a crew chief might be a very outside possibility, but that would be very surprising to me.

SPURS WIN BY 15 and then come home and win by 25.
Spurs will start hitting shots and when they do we have too many shooters for them to defend.
Spurs win series.
When then take on Houston or James Harden. We put KL on him the whole series and wait for Memphis in the WCF.

When it's a Clippers home game, the Staples Center lights are on making the venue very well lit and easy to see unlike a Lakers home game. Taking all that into account, you would have to be blind not to see any hope for the Spurs winning.

thinks that need to happen
1. hit the fucking freethrows
2. diaw's fat ass needs to stop gabling on steals and fronting blake griffin on the pass
3. we need to stop leaving blake griffin wide open for 18 foot jumpers. he's proven he can hit them
4. GO OVER THE SCREEN!!! If they don't want to go over it, anticipate the screen and force the opponent the other way(we still have not learned to defend that yet for some reason)
5. give leonard the fucking ball when he's in the game
6. somenoe needs to tell splitter he's 7 foot tall and that when he's right at the basket, it's ok to dunk the basketball

Re: Game 5 Thread: Spurs at Clippers 10:30 EST (9:30 CST) Tuesday, April 28 on TNT
Tim Duncan said after Game 4 that they made many mistakes that are easy to clean up. I do not know about that, but I have faith that the Spurs will be more focused in this game 5.
But what needs to happen to really win the game? Are the Spurs not overdue for a great shooting game ... I mean a game in which they shoot above average from three? Or is it possible to replicate the defensive performance of game 3? I have no clue, but I just want them to be successful in any way possible!!
GO SPURS GO!!!

In addition to tightening their defense back up, the Spurs could use something from Tony Parker (32.6 FG%), Tiago Splitter (23.1), Danny Green (29.0), Manu Ginobili (37.5) and/or Boris Diaw (41.5), all of whom are struggling with their touch. Not surprisingly, the Spurs are shooting just 31.8 percent on 3-pointers in the series, a major reason they’ve struggled at times against a mediocre Clippers defense that ranked 15th during the regular season.
At least they’ve gotten steady excellence from Tim Duncan and especially Kawhi Leonard, at once representing the past, present and future of the franchise.

Yup. Fuck this shit. The spurs are fine when Parker just runs the offense. They don't need "aggressive" Parker taking away shots from efficient players or three point shooters.

LOL. Parker was "running the offense" fine on Sunday. But he can't hit his shot (within the offense). What is he supposed to do when they play off of him and give him a short jump shot? Try to force a pass? If he can't hit an open 15' shot, then he doesn't need to be out there.

Re: Game 5 Thread: Spurs at Clippers 10:30 EST (9:30 CST) Tuesday, April 28 on TNT
Doc Rivers' nemesis is Bill Kennedy. Rivers and Kennedy have had an acrimonious relationship for years. Both were fined following a game on March 17, 2009. Kennedy ejected Rivers after they stared each other down for an extended period of time.
Rivers was fined $25,000 by the NBA for his critical comments of Kennedy after the game. In an unusual move, Kennedy was fined for his handling of the situation and the news was made public, though the amount was undisclosed.
“[Kennedy] stood there and goaded me and goaded me and goaded me and stared at me,” Rivers said after the game. “Look at the film. I actually walked away. He asked me, ‘Where do you want the ball?’ And I said, ‘Ask them,’ talking about our players. That’s my right to say that, and I walked away. He stood there and stared me down and stared me down and goaded me until I turned around and said, ‘What?’ That’s when I got thrown out of the game.”
Disgraced referee Tim Donaghy, obviously not the most credible source, claimed to know the root of the ill will during an interview with the "Celtics Late Night Show" podcast last March. According to Donaghy, the beef has deep roots, with Rivers questioning Kennedy's sexuality during a game.

According to Donaghy, the beef has deep roots, with Rivers questioning Kennedy's sexuality during a game.
acrimonious means they didn't really get along.

But seriously. They are giving Parker wide open shots. You seriously don't want him to take a step up and shoot them? You'd rather him swing the ball around everytime? Spurs have other players than can do the same thing AND hit the open shot. If you're going to say that you don't want Parker shooting, then use Ginobli to handle the ball. If you're not wanting to use Mills.
