The NBA's team tax level will be $84.7M, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
Good
Spurs get Aldridge, get David West to walk away from 11mil, re-sign Kawhi, get Danny Green to stay, Manu to come back, Timmy to come back, and Porky to work out again.
What a dream offseason tbh.
Does this mean we could have kept CuJo? Ah well... at least this makes 100% certain the last remaining good PG on the team will be back.
that is higher then it was going to be
This means we can keep patty.

Huge jump in cap and tax. Will benefit under the cap and tax teams big time. Not sure the total effect yet but it's a game changer for teams
So how much money do the Spurs have left to spend?
Guarantees Patty is staying (unless they can trade him for something they find more important - doubtful), that they won't pay tax (most likely that will be the case) & that they might be able to get a player back in the ATL trade for this year (assuming Tim might take a little less than the 6M reported)
Does this mean West can get more than Vet min?
holy fuck.
good news!
give the rest to Duncan.

$70M cap for '15-'16 even bigger than $69M number teams were working off of at start of the week. Means slightly bigger max deals for FAs.
If anything from ATL, I want that tall young guy. But I really want Cady Lalanne on the team this year. He's big and a heck of a shot blocker (and a fouler, but so was Baynes). And we have a gaping hole at center, despite our armada of great PFs. Also, we're not trading away Patty, that would leave a black hole at the 1 position, and Manu is too old to play both PG and SG all the time.
Go keep Patty now. WOW.
Excellent news. Flexibility is such a great weapon
So does that mean the Spurs have the MLE as long as they hold off on resigning Duncan until after they use it? It worked for Cleveland.
Now to sign a 3rd pg, c, and SG/SF
Hoping too. Like Tavares.

Tavares pls. Cmon Bud.

Slight correction: players will get back $57.2M in shortfall payments, & will get back the 10% of their salaries placed in escrow for 14-15.
stfu ducks
Can we still add a decent big ? I mean maybe not really as cheap as West, but who can really help Duncan in the middle..
MLE goes away with the signing of Aldridge. And DUncan needs to be signed before aldridge to get rid of his large cap hold. ANd if you use MLE before you sign ALdridge, you don't have the space to sign Aldridge.
can we get Tiago back?

And: max salaries for '15-'16:
0-6 years of service: $16,407,500
7-10 years: $19,689,000
10+ years: $22,970,500
Losing Patty would have meant kissing the championship window goodbye...permanently. Even prime LeBron, Kareem, Duncan and Jordan wouldn't win many games 4 on 5 against other NBA teams.
So for those interested in the new math for Kawhi & LMA's max deals:
Kawhi - 0-6 years - 25%
LMA - 6-10 years - 30%
So KL: 70M Cap * .94 = 65.8M * .25 = 16.45M
So LM: 70M Cap * .94 = 65.8M * .30 = 19.74M
You not read the last sentence.

Pay Timothy Theodor Duncan !! Disgrace if we force another pay cut on him the way he carried our asses last year..
Tavares looks so much better than those clangy Serbian clones that everyone seems to favor. Tavares actually has a chance to be an impact player -- a guy that big with those hands just doesn't come along very often. (And one of the reasons you may think he looks slow is just that he's so huge -- 7'3".)

With new cap, LaMarcus Aldridge maximum contract with Spurs: Four-years, $84.1M.
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
Kawhi Leonard max contract with Spurs now: 5-years, $95.3M.
Get that money fellas.
With the cap jump & assuming Tim stays at 6M as reported, SA can include Reggie Williams w/ Tiago and take back a small player. MaNu4Tres suggested someone like Kent Bazemore
the only thing that changes is the salary of Duncan... he take more
Duncans not to crazy about money. If he wanted to, he could start getting sponsored and more into that marketting bs. Easily a lot more money for Duncan. Salary is more for boasting rights, which we know Tim doesnt give a chit about
Cool. This means the Spurs keep Mills for sure and Duncan gets his 6M. Also raises for Aldridge and Leonard.
I'd rather Tim just get the remaining money.
Impending: Kevin Seraphin to the Spurs for 1 yr/3m
Why did people think the Spurs couldn't keep Mills?
Well that's why I don't put all my eggs in the ST cap estimate basket. A team wouldn't have him recruit a free agent if he was going to be salary dumped the next week.
The Atlanta trade terms will be interesting.
Also of interest is what exact understanding the Spurs have with Duncan. From what I understand the gist of it is a 2 year deal with the 2nd year partially guaranteed such that (assuming that this is Duncan's final season) he ends up with $10 mil for his last season. Presumably they could also get there with a 2 year $11 mil deal with most of the 2nd year guaranteed, if they needed more room this summer. Maybe that was a thought before West signed up for the vet min.
to complete the trade for Splitter the Atlanta Hawks send....Austin Daye back to the Spurs
Estimated by whom?
Don't you guys think that actual NBA teams might have had a better handle on the cap number than we message board types?
I don't believe dumping Patty was ever in the cards once Duncan committed to his cut -- and I think that was done long ago.
True - we should have known this year in particular might have an abnormally large change too. So much going on with money coming in and such. Hard to pin things down.
But same with Green - most national reporters kept saying that Spurs "likely" had to trade Tiago and let Green go to get LMA.
So I would imagine we know Tim's salary by tomorrow. Tim has to be the first to sign. Spurs need to sign him first to remove his cap hold - then finalize Tiago trade. Should know a lot more details tomorrow.
Being able to afford to keep Patty is huge. I saw the first pre-season game last season, and my only comment was how much of a problem it was for him to be out. It's hard to imagine any player that would be more important, that the Spurs could afford. Now, I think, nobody has to wonder if they might have to move him for money purposes. The cap increase benefits every team, but I think the Spurs will make more of it than most.
I know the Spurs and Hawks have ties, but do you really think they would send any more help to a team that's already had such a field day this offseason? I didn't think West would sign for the min, so right about now I'm ready to believe that anything is possible.
why do people think patty is leaving? he was there during the first meeting with aldridge
I am not sure. On one level - it makes sense because Tiago is a really valuable player and it would be incredible if ATL just got him for nothing in return. On the other hand, they likely had some leverage since they knew SA had to do a trade of Splitter to go after LMA.
I wouldn't be surprised either way, but if I had to guess, I would imagine SA gets SOMETHING back - even if it's not a player for this year.
I think when people hear something often enough, it seeps in. So many of the writers were so certain that Green might be on the trade block, and I think they started suggesting that maybe they could get by with "just" trading Patty. Just a guess. But most of the comments here probably have more to do with the articles/tweets out there than anything else.
For me personally, the Patty stuff stemmed from not banking on Tim taking small money and the inital salary cap. I was firmly on the Green is staying bandwagon though.
