This stuff just reminds me of apalisoc reminding everyone how great Splitter was in the Aldridge and West threads. I don't think fans lack any appreciation at all. Do the posters have to all say thank you before a player leaves and gets replaced? Yeesh, "true fans". Or those who feel like they are.

another good character guy, how can the Spurs be so lucky????

Re: San Antonio has agreed to a trade a future second-round pick for Ray McCallum
Is he scared to dribble North/South...cause....I mean....I liked CoJo and all but sometimes....dude would get hung up on the perimeter moving laterally.
He was not a bad defender though and that Ibaka posterize is all-time great.
But yeah...he seemed scared to handle the ball at times.

Look like a Mini-Iverson on his highlights

:lol Kings make a great pick with a 2nd rounder & trade him for a worse pick than they had to pick him.

In most situations, I think it's a useful tool. But last year's Kings team was such a dumpster fire that I wouldn't trust any statistic associated with that team. You had players quitting on coaches. Coaches quitting on players. An owner meddling with coaches. And about the worst chemistry imaginable.
Cory Joseph wouldn't be signing a $30 million deal if he played for the Kings last year, let's just put it that way.

And it's quite faulty, particularly when taken completely by itself.

That doesn't mean it does a perfect job at it. And as Harlem says, it's completely agnostic to context. Simply having a higher RPM doesn't make you a better player, and especially not a better fit.

Re: San Antonio has agreed to a trade a future second-round pick for Ray McCallum
Bringing up numbers to show what a guy did with one of the worst organizations in basketball is a bit misleading...I'm not saying he'll break out and be some high quality backup PG, but there's more to it than just RPM. The Spurs are a heavily analytics-based organization - I guarantee you they've seen every number imaginable regarding this guy :lol It's not as easy as "Oh this guy ranked terribly according to RPM, he must be worthless as a player". Clearly they see something they like, and more often than not, that means good things for us as Spurs fans.
Regardless, we gave up a pick in the 55-60s. How many players selected in that range end up being actual NBA players who can contribute any whatsoever? Don't see how anyone could dislike or criticize this trade tbh. As others have said, I'm just glad we went after a young guy with upside as opposed to some old POS like Andre Miller.

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that someone in the Kings organization said exactly that?

Re: San Antonio has agreed to a trade a future second-round pick for Ray McCallum
good character guy, high basketball IQ, young and hungry, could develop more
what more can we want
this offseason, we Spurs fans are like little daughters being treated to all the possible treats by a doting Dad, lol

Re: San Antonio has agreed to a trade a future second-round pick for Ray McCallum
As someone who lives about 40 minutes away from Sac, I've seen my share of the kid and he's a solid pickup for our third string PG. He won't embarrass himself when he gets a spot start or two once Pop rests TP. He can play some D though not as well as CoJo but he's a better passer and floor general than him. PATFO strike again!

Re: San Antonio has agreed to a trade a future second-round pick for Ray McCallum
I thought we needed a SG or SF more than anything, but OK. Right now it's just Green, Ginobili, and Leonard. I guess there's Anderson, but I was hoping we could upgrade at that position.
-
Re: San Antonio has agreed to a trade a future second-round pick for Ray McCallum
We're gonna be calling for this kid to start over TP at some point this season. Looks physically capable.
He's already a 7 point scorer. We can make that 10 pretty easily.
Guys this season is going to be fun. *Crosses fingers*
Welcome to the fam, Ray Mcallum.
(PATFO just almost literally saved a guy from hell.)

We had literally one guy that is a good ball-handler and that guy is fat and doesn't have court vision. We needed a back-up point really badly. People are saying this guy will be our third string point, but he's actually the second.
Patty is a two in every sense except height.

July 9 concerns.

This trade was a no-brainer regardless of what the Spurs roster looked like. That the Spurs actually need a third point guard makes it even better.
McCallum isn't a savior or anything but his value is much higher than what the Spurs are giving up.

What makes you think we won't add anyone else? It's July 9th :lol We're not going to roll into the regular season with a 10 or 11-man roster.
And fwiw, the most pressing need IMO is a legitimate center who can play spot minutes. Diaw/West are capable of playing some minutes there, but it's not ideal.

Re: San Antonio has agreed to a trade a future second-round pick for Ray McCallum
Sirs,
can we now compete with the Golden State backcourt?
