Crazy. I may have to drop a few bucks on the Spurs now before the season gets rolling and they move into that top spot at something closer to 3-1
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
That's just because the Cavs play in the ECF. The only team that is going to challenge them is the Bulls. If the Cavs were in the WCF, they would be behind GS and SAS.
Out West, OKC, Hou, GS, SAS, LAC, and Mem all would have a legitimate shot of beating the Cavs in the playoff. 1 elite playoff team (Bulls) compare to 6 out West.
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
Its always gonna be the cavs due to the lEast

Ah shit. I was copying a CBS link that said 20 hours ago on google but really two days ago:
http://mweb.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on...arcus-aldridge
This site says Spurs now at 3-1:

True. Thinking the Wizards and Heat have the best shot this year. The Bucks will be scary when they grow up, though. Utah East.

Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
I would have thought McCollum would have put us over the top.

I agree, but that goes without saying, they pretty much are the only ECF that can at least challenge the Cavs at this point. I think LAC, MEM, GS, OKC, SAS are all better when healthy.

The Heat? Did you mean the Hawks?
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
Damn, that 10-1 would've been nice!
Odds are right - Dubs, OKC, Cavs are all going to be tough next year. And we are very old.
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
Spurs depend on too many old-ass players to be the full favorite. No surprise.

Very solid all around. Championship pedigree. I like them over the other East teams that aren't Cleveland. If they get to the playoffs healthy, they can make some noise.

I think they screwed up by trading knight for mcw though. I hope Jabari can get healthy and prove that he's better than wiggins.

They'll be doing great to finish in the 4 spot come playoff time. And I don't trust them to be healthy, especially Wade.

And then they'll probably face the Cavs in the second round and give them hell. They're a team that needs to pace themselves.

Udonis Haslem?
Anyways, I also feel that if the Heat stays healthy, may be one of the top 4 teams in the East. That's a very good starters line-up.

Exactly my thoughts. Why does everyone continue to put the Bulls on a pedestal? Thibs is gone now too, how are they viewed as contenders again? Beating after beating from Lebron James and still feared.
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
I really believe that if healthy, the Heat have the best shot a taking down the Cavs. Wade seems to become a superhuman or something when facing Lebron.
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
Cavs would be favorite or cofavorites regardless of conference. That starting lineup went 33-3 to end the season when they all played together and they still stole two games from the gay little warriors without their second and third best players, who needed veteran iggy to save them.
kyrie owned parker last time did he not? to the tune of 57 points? spurs fan says that its fluke im sure :downspin:

Everyone owned parker last season. It is not a fluke

Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
We are never the favorites until we win it. Spurs become everyones favorite when they win in other words lol
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
Wow...time to go to Vegas I guess.
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
if the spurs and cavs swapped conferences the spurs would be favored too. not sure why anybody here is getting all up in arms about this
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
Cleveland should absolutely be favorites. Playing in the East is such a huge advantage when it comes to getting to the Finals. I think GS having equal/better odds than us is pretty reasonable as well. They just won 67 games and the title, and now they've brought everyone back. They'll likely have some internal improvement due to having a young core + added year of chemistry, and Kerr will have another year under his belt as well.
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
The Spurs need to beat the Knicks to be a favorite ro win ir all. :wakeup. ..
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
Makes total sense. The Warriors return every bit of their championship roster. And the Cavs might have actually won it all if they were healthy. The Spurs are competitive on paper, but the roster is unproven.
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
And it's not like we're a lock for the Finals or anything. I mean I've learned not to question whether Duncan will decline and he's earned that right, but he is going to be 40 by the time playoffs roll around. Manu had the worst season of his career last year and now he'll be another year older. Parker (who just came off an absolutely terrible season) and Diaw will both be 34 around playoff time.
On the flip side, we added a top 15 player in Aldridge. Kawhi is only 24 and will hopefully build upon his breakout season last year. Green is coming off a career season and has shown signs he might not be done improving as a player. West could end up being a great role player. Boban could be a nice addition too. And I refuse to believe Parker will have as bad of a season as he did last year. I know his days of being an elite PG are over, but I still think he can make a positive impact in a smaller role.
tl;dr: I don't blame someone for not completely buying into us being title favorites...especially when we haven't even seen the team play yet. Cleveland and GS are just safer bets at this point. That could very well change by the time April rolls around, though.

Amare, Haslem, Walker.
Not bad, will surely be back in the playoffs. :toast

Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
I also really don't see anyone seriously threatening Cleveland. I guess a healthy Miami/Chicago would have the best bet, but I sure as hell wouldn't put my faith in either one of them to get the job done. I'd be pretty damn shocked if Cleveland isn't back in the Finals this year.

They'll be in the Finals at least the next 2-3 years , tbh

Yep!!! Got whipped badly in game 6 when Love and Irving were out and at home. They fucking suck man.

Playing in the East has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that you come to finals rested and will less injuries. The disadvantage is that you aren't prepared for the competition.
Spurs had to be shocked by the Mavs in the first round to get themselves with the right mindset. Think about what could have happened, they could have lost a game 7 against the Mavs that would have been devastating right after losing the championship. Glad they survived!

Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
It is because we play in the West. The Cavaliers will end up in the finals by default basically. Can't say the same for the Warriors, Spurs Thunder, etc.
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
Spurs do not want to be the odds-on favorite ... lets just keep it that way. We have yet to see what this roster can do ...

Anyone who complains about them not being the favorites simply doesn't get it.

The odds make are saying that it is 50/50 that the either the Warriors and Spurs come out of the West.
Then it is 50/50 between whoever wins the WCF and the Cavaliers.
I don't these odds are going to change unless it is obvious that the Spurs are so much more superior over the Warriors.
OKC in not the same category as Warriors and Spurs despite having probably the best starting 5. The bench depth is suspect.

Pop would hate it if this team were the odds on pre-season favorite. This is perfect....lot's of work to do, maintain appropriate fear, pound the rock and see what is happening come April-June.

Spurs are never Vegas favorites and we've never repeated. Where was the appropriate fear on those occasions?
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
The odds have continued to move in the Spurs direction. Bovada still has the Cavs at 11-4, but has the Spurs at 3-1, the Warriors at 11-2, the Thunder at 17-2, and the Clippers back down to 10-1.

Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
We have to have many more things go well compared to the Cavs...
Parker must improve.
Timmy must re perform an incredible season at 40
Aldridge a really good ISO man must be integrated
KL and Danny must be more consistent.
If I had to pick the winner or face death, would have to be the Cavs. What they did without Love and Irving in the East playoffs was very telling. They cake walked into the finals.
-
Re: The Spurs still aren't the Vegas favorite to win it all
Until Aldridge takes over the reigns of the team. If that happens. We are still a team without a superstar.
That or Porker has to be back in form. Two huge ifs.

actually playing without love helps the cavs. Playing with that piece of shit is what hurts them.

The thunder do have a different head coach now. Brooks by all measures, was absolutely horrible. Most bball minds thought he was really holding that ream back, despite them winning a lot of games.

I would like to disagree but you are right. Just look at his playoff offensive and defensive ratings per 100 pos... At best, he's just above average.
