Has David West Officially Signed Yet?
Any word on if or when he officially signs with us?
-
Re: David West
Yeah, I'd like to know too. I'm worried dude will be like, "Wait a minute, Jordan changed his mind, I can too and get paid more money at that!"
-
Re: Has David West Officially Signed Yet?
Spurs are probably still looking for a wing before they sign West, Kawhi, Manu and Danny.
-
Re: Has David West Officially Signed Yet?
I'd guess it should be soon since they signed Duncan, signed Aldridge, and exhausted their capspace signing Marjanovic and Simmons. With those four inked they are now over the cap and can use Bird Rights to sign Leonard and Green, use the room exception to sign Ginobili, and West to a minimum deal. These four contracts can be signed in any order now that the four that had to be signed in sequence before were taken care of.
EDIT: Actually, Simmons could be/have been signed at any time after Marjanovic.

Their capspace should be exhausted now by Marjanovic's deal.

Yeah, I'm getting kinda nervous that he hasn't signed yet either. :lol But then again, Green/Leonard/Manu all haven't been announced yet so maybe there's nothing to worry about

Well it would make no sense to make your minimum signings when you still have capspace. Now that capspace is spoken for you'll start to see everyone else sign as soon as Bobi's deal is inked.

If there's one player's word in the NBA you can trust, it's David West's.

I have a theory that 12 year old David West promised himself he would retire by age 36 if he made a shitload of money and he's keeping the promise. He's got one season left and he's going all out to get a ring before then. Ring and retire.
Not that I think the above is necessarily true but that is absolutely the kind of shit that David West would do. Keeping a promise to himself even if it hurt.

Very true, and also consider that I think he's locked into our deal at this point as I don't think there's many other buyers. I don't think the Pacers are gonna turn around and offer him 12 mil again. :lol

I just can't believe what this idiot is saying just because David West decided to sign with the Spurs @ the vet. minimum.
David needs a pschological evaluation?
NBA players' association needs to investigate Popovich?

Someone mentioned that David West jersey was available on Spurs fan shop home page, so I'm guessing the Spurs faxed the contract over and West faxed it back. Will probably hear something by Monday that will make it official.

I know players back out at the last moment every few years like you just said....
But, I don't ever remember a "max contract" guy doing it. You got any names?

no, its just this way of thinking. something happens and everybody fears it will happen again immediately. plane crashes ... Paul George injury ... its a mental thing I know. but comparing mental midget Deandre with West ... no way.

Re: Has David West Officially Signed Yet?
Spurs must sign Marjanovic before signing West, Ginobili, Green and Leonard.
Marjanovic signing isn't a quick one because:
- He must travel to SA to pass his physical.
- NBA must receive his letter of clearance from the FIBA.
The physical part should be solved in the next couple of days but the letter of clearance might take more time depending on how quickly FIBA and the Serbian basketball federation are working.
I would say that the best case scenario for signing West would be Monday or Tuesday but it could very well be at the end of next week.

They didn't but they will have to waive him to sign Marjanovic (if reports are accurate that he will be paid $2M).
And BTW, Simmons can officially be signed before Marjanovic so I expect it to be Spurs next move.

So how much exactly West gave up after the taxes difference between the two states being calculated? I want to donate him the all amount...

Hard to calculate since you would have to take each state that he plays a game in and calculate what the state taxes are for that game check. He has to file a state tax return for each state that he plays a game in that has state taxes.

Re: Has David West Officially Signed Yet?
Wonder what's taking so long for West/Manu to officially sign. Everyone else is signed already and they're over the cap now, not sure what the hold up is

I would guess it's just some schedule issue. West might come to SA to pass his physical and he might just be on holidays right now. There is no rush to sign him.
Manu should be lost somewhere in the pampa.

I can't fucking believe the Spurs got David West. They hugely upgraded their starting lineup and their bench this summer, and with Aldridge and West here they can give all three of Duncan, Aldridge, and West plenty of rest in the season.

On sale now. I don't see many of these flying off the racks though considering the length of his contract.

It's going to be nuts what his impact will be here. Dude averaged nearly 12 and 7 and was the main frontcourt target for Indiana. They ranked 24th in PPG, and he gets to feed off every weapon the Spurs have :lol. And with the added motivation knowing he has his best chance at a title now? It's gonna get ugly for opposing defenses.
-

Usually when these kind of superteams get put together they have no bench, but damn the Spurs have some depth this year too. Unfortunately the other two superteams in Oakland and Cleveland have pretty ridiculous depth themselves. Crazy that any of these three teams would enter the season as title favorites most years.
-
Re: Has David West Officially Signed Yet?

Re: Has David West Officially Signed Yet?
Sucks to be Indiana. They were close a couple of years. If they had a better backcourt they probably would have gotten past Miami, maybe even in 2013.

Obviously he couldn't have had 21. But his Twitter handle has long had 30 in it. 21 was the anomaly for him, because 30 has been retired by the Pacers.

He'll be 35 before the season starts. I'm not sure long term is a valid term in this case. It wouldn't shock me to see him end up on the bench with Pop at some point.

Re: Has David West Officially Signed Yet?
Remember when posters on this board didn't think there was any chance Aldridge would sign with us, and so believed we would end up signing David West instead as a more "realistic" scenario? Funny how that worked out. :lol
