Duncan's ppg this season
With the addition of LA, he will probably be the first option this season, second Kawhi. We will no longer be seeing a lot of post-up for Timmy. He will prolly be earning his points thru tip-ins and second chance points. Add to that that he will be carrying a heavy load on defense with the absence of Tiago. Would it hurt his legacy if his ppg drops to single digit this season? Lets say 8.5..

Yep. And only because of all the blowouts. He'll still have the vintage 27/14/5/4 nights on occasion in close games

Re: Duncan's ppg this season
11ppg, 8rpg, 2.4 bpg, 3.5 apg

Re: Duncan's ppg this season
He'll average >13ppg IMO.. He'll still be Parker's favorite P&R guy.
The more important question is what will his MPG & GP be.

25-27 MPG, 65-72 GP depending on standings

13ppg sounds about right. I think people aren't accounting for West's impact as much as they should.

West won't play more than 10-15 mpg aside from injury/rest games

With a pretty large standard deviation on the MPG, tbh. There'll be games we go up 20 by the end of the first (with him having played the first 8-9 minutes), he sits out the 2nd, plays the first 4-5 minutes of the 3rd and sits out the rest of the night. Then there'll be the games where he has to play 35+ because those pesky (insert team here) won't go away, Lamarcus is having an off night and we need our GOAT big man to dominate as he still can on occasion.

When's the last time we've played a 4th big more than 15 mpg? When Muhammad came, Rasho was the odd man out. When Elson came, Rasho was the odd man out once again. Back then Tim was a 32+ mpg guy, and sometimes Horry opted to be the odd man out as well or we'd play Finley/Bowen at PF against smaller teams.

Nothing you've said remotely describes the big man rotation we have now. Holy shit, and Duncan is 39 years old! Not a single one of those stiffs was nearly as good as West is right now, and one of his important contributions will be to eat regular season minutes. Hell, I could distantly see them start him next to Aldridge and give Duncan the minutes you're giving West.
No, West will play 20mpg at least.

Eh I don't know, Diaw is no slouch and he'll also get minutes.

Duncan isn't coming off the bench. They've defamed him enough already. Even if he's 50 if he wishes to stay on the roster, the Spurs' FO cannot and will not say no. He might only play the first 3 minutes of the game, but he'll still be in the starting lineup if he wants to be.

Duncan's 39 this year, and pop will be even more concerned with his health and mpg conservation. I can easily see Duncan being limited to 25 minutes max, and 20 if it's a blowout. If the second unit can carry the load, why not?

NO WAY REALLY
-
Re: Duncan's ppg this season
He was at 14 PPG, last year, and that includes the December of Hell, where the Spurs had to ride him for much longer than they had anticipated..
Add Aldridge, West being a much more capable scorer than Baynes(meaning he'll probably receive clutch time minutes in games where he's hot), an expected increase in scoring for Kawhi, Green will play more minutes, Parker will score a little less(assuming he becomes more of a facilitator) = 11 or 12 PPG or so IMO..
-
Re: Duncan's ppg this season
He will probably barely touch the ball.
15PPG last year without Aldridge and Kawhi playing like a role player offensively in the first 60 games.
He will average around 12PPG a game, maybe less. He will play less minutes.
Also, the spurs want to rest parker in the regular season. TD was the biggest beneficiary of the Parker's PnR game, that will also hurt his numbers..
Kawhi and Aldridge around 18-20PPG
Parker 13-15 PPG
TD 11-13PPG
Green 10-11PPG

Really, parker 15 points. Lol
Common man, maybe with 4 assists to go with it

It will in many fans' eyes. Not because of single digits in one season at the end of his career, but because of his overall career average. I couldn't believe it when I saw his career scoring average is only 19.5 ppg. Kareem finished with 24.6 ppg and more rebounds and blocks than Timmeh. Based on that significant scoring differential, which will only get worse this year, there's no way Tim could be called "best big man ever."
I still love 21 and wouldn't trade him for anything, but stats matter when comparing legacies. Just keepin' it real.

If he feels like he deserves a bigger role, he will get his 15PPG.

I don't want to see 15 ppg on 17 FGA and 60% from the line
-
Re: Duncan's ppg this season
I dont give a shit as long as he becomes one of the best interior defenders in the league at 40.
-
Re: Duncan's ppg this season
His ppg will decrease but Tim will get a lot more rest too so is all good.

Hurt his goddamn legacy? Wtf hell no! The only stat that Duncan cares about are wins, son. Being team first is a blessing

You really think that a guy with Duncan's length and touch (not to mention pedigree) will be reduced to a second chance scorer like a Ben Wallace or a Dennis Rodman?

No. Absolutely not. Im just looking at a scenario where he might not be getting the same touches before this season because of the addition of Aldridge.

Well, that's a fair thought. I personally think that Duncan's efficiency may skyrocket now that he isn't the big drawing the main focus of the defense. Thus, his shots could go way down while he still scores a healthy amount and possibly increases assists and/or offensive rebounds (like you mentioned) as well.

I think this may likely happened. Wouldn't be surprised to see his FG% rise along with the offensive rebound rate. That said, while he'll be more efficient, I'd expect his raw numbers to drop as he plays less minutes this year.

Tim Duncan is bulletproof. Nothing is going to hurt his legacy at this point.

Duncan could very well shoot 55 percent or higher this season if he's allowed to only seek the higher percentage shots. In that case, he would set a career high. That would be quite the development to reach a career high at age 40.

His legacy is well-cemented. It can't go down. But it'll help increase his legacy if he ties Jordan with ring number 6.

Re: Duncan's ppg this season
Playing alongside the 2 best interior scorers he's played with since the admiral in LMA and West, and with danny and kawhi improving, I expect TD's APG/48 to be a career high (3.9 in 2002/03) Possibly not as we swing the ball around so much more than his early days.

I don't think the offense will run through him enough to average anything higher than last season's assist numbers.
-
Re: Duncan's ppg this season
1) Take his per-36 minute career average
2) Divide it by the number of minutes he plays
3) *****
4) Profit!
He's the same. Always the same. Mr. Fundamental. His numbers will be based on his minutes.

Re: Duncan's ppg this season
I don't care who scores what as long as we see the return of THE BEAUTIFUL GAME.
Duncan's legacy will be cemented by his longevity and gong out with B2B titles. Who was Kareem scoring all those points on? Dave Cowens?!? Come on man!
The depth will be a huge blessing as we can rest Duncan in B2Bs and still win and match up against the few teams that throw two quality bigs at us.
-
Re: Duncan's ppg this season
There will be fewer touches on offense but that should allow everyone to use more energy for defense.
