If true, then best wishes. Imagine the possibilities if things would have worked out for him to remain a Spur, especially after game 6 of the WCF against Dallas in '03.
Captain Jack :worthy:
If so, that's a tough ending. Wish he could have stayed with the Spurs. Will always remember his clutch ability and toughness in 2003 and 2007(Golden State knocked off Dallas for the Spurs.) :toast

Here's the official retirement on captain Jack.

I will always remember when Jack talked shit to the OKC bench in 2012 when he hit 6 straight threes, and then got a technical for it.
Yep officially announced now.
He had bitter exits with the Spurs but Jack will always be my nigga.
gl captain jack. you were always fun to watch :toast
Yup, will always love Capt. Jack for the clutch shots in 03.
Fuk yo team, clown....
Truthfully I thought he was already retired.
Jack will always be a Spurs legend to me. I remember how badly we all wanted him here in 2001 and then how disheartening it was to see him glued to the bench that entire season. And then seeing him completely dominate the summer league in 2002 and become the full time starter. I still have a videotape of the game where Jack dropped 8 threes on the Lakers early in the 02-03 season. I gotta buy a capture card and rip those old tapes to h.264.
2003 would never have happened without him. thanks to tha trillest to ever do it!!!!
P.A.T. LEGEND
He was a spot up 3-point shooter on a team Duncan carried on his back. He had a pretty good year, the on bolted for less money. Lol Spurs legend. He was Jarren Jackson 2.0.
tip of the hat:
SA vs. OKC Game 6, 2012: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm6hepN6L84
SA should have won that- would have prolly had the 'chip in 12 as well if the zebras didn't take over the 4th qt.
and some GSW goodies:

Retire his jersey!
Is it 2013 again?
Always loved Jack... despite the ego and everything else... thanks for everything good captain...

We let Stack Jack go for the T Mac curse :pctoss
Will never forget him punking those OKC coaches who always stand up and scream next to whoever is shooting.
He was alot better than Jaren Jackson, he actually had a pretty good career and some good seasons. Horrible comparison. He had a few years over 20 ppg and a few over 18, he was a good player http://www.basketball-reference.com/...jacksst02.html
2012 playoffs he was lights out shooting 50% 60% 3pt and over 90% from the line, the only player to do so. He was great in SA those 2 playoff runs.
Would have loved for him getting a title at his the second stint with the team. Do we know what really happened in order for him leaving again (guess he was just cut because of some talk/inscedent, wasn't it?)?
Not denying he came up big for us (he hit big more than a few big shots, never said a few), that would be retarded, but I dont see him as a Spurs legend. I see him as basically one of many guys who throughout the years stepped up big time and helped us win a 'chips. Different strokes for different folks.
Yep, Spurs were the Suns' bitch in 2003 until game 3 of the first round playoff series. Suns stole game 1 in SA and nearly took game 2 here as well. It wasn't until game 3 when we finally proved we could beat them. Even that was in question after losing game 4 after being up 17 in the 4th of that game. Game 5 went pretty well, we came somewhat close to blowing a 25+ point lead in that one too, but in game 6 Stephen Jackson and the rest of the shooters made some huge threes in the 4th to keep the Suns at bay and ultimately afford us one more chance to beat the mighty Lakers in the TD/David era with HCA. Which we did.
It seemed like Phoenix voluntarily lifted their curse over us when they traded Marbury and changed their home court from that 50 shades of purple design to the straight wood and orange.
He played huge role in getting the spurs over the mental edge the Lakers had against them. I remember that regular season game in which he drilled 8 3's against them was huge for the Spurs psyche. He also brought a toughness in the sense that he was able to wipe the goofy smirks off of Fox,Fisher,Kobe's face. Hell I really do believe part of the reason Fisher and Kobe were crying so hard in that game 6 loss was because Jax's relentless trash talking got to them during the series.
He was one of the few who didn't wet their pants against OKC in the playoffs, but his last year here...wow. He was pretty fuckin awful. At least he has his "rap game" to stave off bankruptcy for a few years.
And :lol at Josh Howard being at his retirement party. Definitely there for the weed.
Agreed... he was truly great in certain moments, but also such a cautionary tale in many ways. He left San Antonio to make more money, helped to ruin a great Indiana team's shot at a title, helped beat a 67 win Dallas team only to get whipped by Utah, got thrown off the Spurs after a 2nd chance... If he was a little more mature and a little less volatile, he might have 4 or 5 rings now, with the same or more money in the bank...
Loved SJAX. I wanted him to stay in 03/04 but it was impossible with Manu bumped up to starter. Jax was not going to come off the bench and wanted $$$$. But then Manu ended up coming off the bench most of his career here anyway. But even then if Manu came off the bench in '04 you would have had the problem of who plays in crunch time. Instead we got Hedo......
Spurs did need his chutzpah, though.

I remember how excited I was a few years ago when the Spurs traded Jefferson to Golden State and got Jackson back as part of the trade.
One of my all-time favorite Spurs, tbh.. He'll be missed. Thanks for the Chips Captain Jack

Some great and some not so great memory attached with Jack but I guess it's time to put away the bad memories and to keep only the good ones.
To me, jack will always be attached at that 2003 title. Spurs' 2003 team was a weird mix of players and without Jack we surely wouldn't have witnessed D-Rob retiring with a ring, which rank among the Spurs' moments. So, Thanks a lot Jack for that.
I also hope he will manage properly his new life.
Enjoyed his Spurs contributions.
I have to give it up, he played a role:

Stephen Jackson, aka Jack, aka Buckets, aka Stak5, aka DaTrillStak5, aka Captain Jack, one of my all-time favorites.
I just gotta say, those that think he wouldn't have helped in '13 just because he was having a down regular season must have forgotten who he is. His momuments were built when the cards were down. "I live for that, man. I MAKE LOVE TO PRESSURE."
Be easy, Jack. Always a Spur in my mind. Thanks.

Captain Jack gone but never forgotten. :lobt2:
One of my all time favorite players. :tu
Feeling nostalgic, I watched some 2003 playoffs. Young Tim, DRob, Bowen, and Capt. Jack -- holy shit!
Dude, it was like a 3 year, $10 million total contract Pop offered. $8 million a year was almost David Robinson money. Jack wanted five years and proved he was worth it that year in Atlanta. But yeah, that Hawks team was terrible around him. I remember in a game against Dallas I think he said it was the first time he had seen a box and 1 defense since high school. :lol
What I would have given to have had Jack in that 06 series against Dallas. No way the Spurs don't ring that year if they had him to throw on Dirk.
:cry Maybe my favourite Spurs role-player of all time :cry (LDN probably has that title now)
Will not listen to a bad word said about Buckets.
-He was huge in the 1st round in 03' against Phoenix when the Spurs were looking a little shook
-He was big against Dallas in the WCF in '03, who can forgot the 3pt barrage he put on before Steve Kerr stole his thunder...
-Those 3's in the 4th quarter in Game 6 in the '03 Finals
-That performance in Game 6 against OKC in the '12 WCF...
Feeling like I need to change my avatar after 12 years now :cry
I've always loved me some Cap'n Jack and damn I was pissed when he got waived ........ even though it was his fault but still, all of his game 6 performances will always be remembered. Wishing Mr. "Game 6" the best in his future endeavors
Nigga bailed us out and gave Pop a playable SF that Thunder series :tu
