Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
After Timmy and Manu retire.
I Submit:
Parker, Aldridge, and Leonard.
Sure it may seem a little obvious at this point, but wanted the forums takes.

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
Parker in name only. Basically can't have a legit "big 3" with 2 max deals and no one willing to take a discount.
-
Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
Kawhi, LMA and a 2017 max FA.

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
I'd love to see Pop trying to coach Russ...

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
Parker ain't that 'big' now. And Aldridge won't be that 'big' in a few years either, tbh.
The reality is that this Spurs group is the 2014 group on steroids. It ain't about any 'Big 3.'
-
Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
Aldridge, Green, and Gobert (who TP will convince to sign)
-
Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
Anyone with a handy 2017 UFA list?

Blake and Paul should be UFAs, but the Spurs may pull a fast one and go with Splitter and Hill returning. That would be pretty excellent.
-
Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
With TP in his 17th season and Manu retired, the 2017 FA should probably be a facilitating guard.

The emergence of Kawhi last year made the "Big 3" an outdated and even cringe-worthy term - at least as it applied to Tim/Manu/Tony. Tony was definitely not "big" last year, and neither was Manu. I hope Tony is bigger this year, but I bet Manu is not. I also hope LMA is big for more than a few more years, a la Tim. But just because there was a Big 3 during the Tim/Manu/Tony era doesn't mean there has to be one now or in the future. There was not one prior to Tim/Manu/Tony, and I do not see one emerging from the current roster. I have been hoping for over a year that Spurs announcers and fans would recognize how passe' the term is and drop it.

Tim remained big because he played within himself on offense and anchored the team defensively. I don't see LMA playing at that level a few years from now. He'll definitely be an offensive force in the short term though.

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
I don't get the people saying that The Architect wasn't BIG last season when it was clearly he was. But the past is the past and Porker is back to Parker's elite weight.

You bring up two interesting points. Tim has, indeed, learned to play within himself more successfully than most aging stars and at a very high level to boot! But I think Pop deserves much of the credit. Sure, Tiim fully invested himself, but Pop had to give him something worthwhile to buy into. Presumably that is one of the things that attracted LMA to the Spurs. He was allegedly very interested in Pop's game time management of his players as a means to prolong his career. I think learning to play within ones' self goes hand-in-hand with limiting minutes. I think LMA can learn to play within himself, too. But to your other, more important point, it is hard to predict: Does LMA have the wherewithal to anchor the defense in a post-Duncan world? Then again, perhaps he won't have to if one of Euro-giants pans out.

Aldridge as defensive anchor is a very sad thought.

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
If Parker isn't good enough to be in the current Big 3 (Duncan/Kawhi/Aldridge), how will he be good enough to be in the next one?
-
Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
the only time one should use the word big together with Parker is when they are referring to his abdomen area.

I really don't think Asians should tell everyone what the definition of "big" is...

Make a run at a Plumlee brother or something.

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
We already have the New Big 3. Aldridge/Leonard/Green.

I like the thought of Ibaka next to Aldridge but he (and Westbrook) will certainly stay if Durant signs a new deal next year.
I think the most realistic 'big name' we could land would be Gordon Hayward. Unlikely to command the new 'super'-max which means we could bring in another decent player, perhaps Jeff Teague who I really like or Hill.
Looking at salaries we'll have around $38m. Take of a couple million for draft picks and Pattys salary assuming we bring him back, that leaves us with around $30m. $20m for Hayward and $10m for George Hill? Probably not enough for either though

And have two max contracts at SF position? I'd rather to think in rim protectors, a decent C. There is one on the list of 2017 FAs?

Aside from Ibaka, there's no great rim protector to put next to Aldridge in 2017. There's Dwight but I'm not even sure how good he is anymore, let alone in two years. I expect we'll have to find a center in the draft, and hopefully already have one in Mulitinov.
I don't see any reason why Hayward and Kawhi couldn't play together, they could both play as wings or in a small ball lineup when Kawhi slides to the 4.

Agreed. It seems like the Spurs have to develop a draft pick, Milutinov'll play with the Serbian team at the European FIBA tournament I hope we can watch him play.
I wouldn't bench Danny to play Haryward, with Tony's decline as defender the Spurs will need a lot of Green guarding PGs and SG, but I understand what you say about the wings, I'd love to go small with a Green-Hayward-Leonard lineup.

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
All I want is RUDY GOBERT. This is a guy who is going to win DPOY a lot. Give me him and Spurs would be set for years. This guy is Mt. Mutumbo who can can run for a big guy.

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
Gobert, also at the end of his contract, in gonna be rfa..so is one we can probably forget to sign.
If Bobi pans out, that could be a real steal...at 27 he's still young enough potentially for at least 5/6 years.

Have fun watching Dirk limp into retirement with Zaza as his partner

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
Gober scared our guys in last regular season game with Utah better than Ibaka in 2014 WCF G3. He could dominate if he gain 10 kg of pure muscle mass.
Mills, Leonard, Aldridge!

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
I still think a playmaking guard will be the more fitting addition in 2017, with Manu gone and TP in his 17th season. Unless Pop goes back to 4 down again.

if we can get Gorgui Sy Dieng ?someday then Dieng at center, and LaMarcus and Leonard at forwards could be our big three....

I agree that i think Mulitinov is being groomed to be the long term starting center but looking at the list i think Pau Gasol would be a nice option for the short term. Overall game is similar to Tim's and he would come cheap.
I would love Hayward if he is willing to take over Manu's role & be the 6th man which im sure he is not.

Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
this is a pipe dream, but let's just say Timmy retires after next year (which could happen, not saying I want it to). 1 free agent that most likely wouldn't come here but I think would be a perfect fit next to Aldridge is Joakim Noah at the 5. Great passer, very good defender, and most importantly can defend the pick n roll and defend in space well. He's like a better Tiago splitter.
What do yall think? Just my opinion. Obviously that only would be a possibility if Duncan retires.
-
Re: Votes on the nest "Big Spurs 3"
If Noah of 2017 is closer to 2014 Noah than 2015 Noah, yes. LMA would love it.
