Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
josh smith can probably help the spurs in terms of shotblocking and athleticism. i'm not really sold on the diaw-west combo. he could also back up kawhi in short stretches.
although the spurs probably need to give up diaw since he'll no longer have enough playing time.
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
Clippers are not trading with the Spurs in the first place :lol
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
Would you really want to give up Diaw for Josh Smith? Have to say, I wouldn't do that.
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
Lance Stephenson on this team would be interesting. Could everyone keep him in control and could he be a solid scrub
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
from salary standpoint, they need to include other players which kind of is not the right thing to do at the moment. also the clippers will not help the spurs improve.
but i'm saying it would be a luxury to have an athletic 4 to combat small athletic lineups versus OKC or GSW. i think both west and diaw has pretty similar effect on offense they bring with the second unit, but defensively, you'd be relying on duncan or aldridge to play with either diaw and west. neither are shotblockers.

Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
i'm not really sure about stephenson since he has failed even with the bobcats and clippers opportunity. but it wouldnt hurt to get him if he is bought out. he could probably be a playmaker if manu struggles or retires.
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
i like the current team except from spurs relying on manu and that diaw-west combo.
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
No way.... two team killers.

Also, Stephenson is a headcase that will probably hurt our chemistry and complaint if Pop prefers to go to someone else at the first sight of his on court antics. Trade wise, who do you give up for him? Considering the scarcity of minutes going to the 4th wing, is it worth it to give up the guys we currently have?
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
I believe in giving talented players a second chance, maybe a third chance... but both of these guys are on their 5th or 6th chance. They don't want to grow up.

Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
After being humbled for the last one-and-half seasons with two teams, I think Stevenson might be open to the idea of returning to the Pacers. As of Smith, he is playing on veteran-minimum, and can easily find lots of suitable teams.

Neither would PATFO. This thread is DOA.

Detroit gave up millions just to get rid of Smith, and got immediately better. Houston gave him a shot, and let him go, even though he's one of Dwight Howard's best friends. The Clippers have had him for 20 games, and already want him gone. That's a disturbing pattern.

I can't believe this is actually a real thread.

Diaw is legit one of the best players in the league. Hes a nightmare mismatch for like every single team.

-Pop isn't trading for an immature knucklehead like Lance after he sent Stephen Jackson home:lol
-Josh Smith is the anti good-to-great stretch 4 i& would have Pop pulling his hair:lol
-PATFO can't trade for Lance without giving up a rotation player like Diaw/Danny:lol
-Can trade for Josh Smith in exchange for Bonner:wow-->:lol

Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
There were times when I would give Bonner for this type of players, but not this time.
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
When you're in the first season of integrating new key pieces into the team, the last thing you want to do is introduce more new players. It would destroy any team chemistry you've built up to this point. I would imagine the Spurs will avoid trades this season altogether, not just for these two guys.
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
Might as well trade LMA for Ryan Anderson and Asik while we're at it.

Two players that are known cancers. You wonder why the Clips are wanting to trade them. Smith should have stayed with the Rockets and Lance should have taken the Pacers deal. Nobody really wants them at this point. I literally wouldn't trade anyone on the roster for Smith, maybe Bonner. Lance, well he is just a headcase and the Spurs don't need that right now as they are just starting to gel with want they have.

Better: could the Spurs give the Clippers $3 million to keep Smith and Stephenson the rest of the season? Those guys are going to sink the whole team.
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
What about as buy out candidates?
Basically, would you ditch butler or Simmons, or maybe Ray, for the knuckleheads?

Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
I'd be for it if they both weren't huge faggots.

The Spurs would not have ring #5 if not for Diaw. Not "might not have" - they would not have ring #5. I'm not saying that he was the best player on the team, just that they couldn't have gotten it done without him. The Spurs were in danger of being knocked out of the playoffs until Pop put Diaw in the lineup. Strangely, most people don't know that Diaw was the Spurs' assist leader for the entire Finals that year. I can say with no hesitation that it would have to be a MUCH jucier trade that this one, before Pop would let Diaw get away. Those two guy have IQ's roughly the same as their shoe sizes. In case you haven't noticed, stupid players don't fare well on Pop's team.

Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
Clips are trying to trade their only wing defender and a big that signed on the cheap? Doubt it.
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
Adding two known headcases to a team that was already a basketcase. Gee, Clippers, how else was that gonna work out???
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
:lol Giving up Diaw to get the great piece that is Josh fucking Smith.

Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
We already have a cheaper Stephenson in Simmons, tbh. I'm good on him.
Wouldn't give up Diaw for Smith neither, nope. West is untradeable just because he gave up 11M to join the Spurs. Who else would LAC want for Smith? Kyle? Nah.
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
Clipper and Warriors are exhibits A and B of why continuity is the way to go most of the time, the Warriors are the same as last year and have hit the ground running and wrecking most of the league, the Clippers adjusted their formula and are in much worse shape for it. This has been the Spurs secret sauce for the last 10 years. The Spurs while eventually (hopefully) will be better for it, if this Spurs team played a version of the Spurs where we didn't get LMA and West but kept the guys that were here last year, right now that version would win. They know each other and the offense inside and out and the system while the current version while beginning to gel isn't the well oiled machine that the previous version is...yet. I have no doubt once it does it will be a much superior product but right now it is not.

To be fair, Smith was a big part of Houston's success last year.
That being said, I don't think there's any need for him here considering our frontcourt is already loaded. And I sure as hell wouldn't trade Diaw for him :lol
-
Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
So you wanna trade:
- a team player who is an excellent passer, set picks, moves well without the ball, does the opposite of chucking shots, spreads the floor, is a mismatch for most teams in the league, has a high basketball IQ, knows the system and is a very liked teammate...
for
- a player who is now in his 30s, shooting 25.6% from 3, a bad passer, has low IQ and a questionable attitude
just because he's "athletic"?
Thank god the Spurs FO isn't run by some of the fans...

It reveals a lot when the Rockets refused to pick up a one year contract with Smith despite his supposed success with the team.

He was an unrestricted free agent last summer. Houston did not hold an option on Smith.

OP should be pinked :lol if there's anyone the Spurs can trade to improve the 15-man roster, it's Anderson, but everyone else belongs on the team

There's a lot of truth in this.
And it's one of the reason Dallas fail most of the time....too many fucking changes.

I wouldn't touch both with a 10 foot pole, tbh..

Smith played really well for them and provided a lot of playmaking they lacked in their second unit and sometimes even in the first as a passer. He helped the Rockets. The problem was that the Rockets would not guarantee him a role in the rotation because of DMo and Jones. He played last year because DMo got hurt, but with a healthy roster, he wasn't guaranted the same role. Meanwhile the Clippers had a huge hole in their big man rotation off the bench, so he switched teams.
Overall though, I bet the Rockets are regretting letting him go.

Re: Sources: Clippers gauged trade interest for Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith
The only thing the Spurs need is three point shooting. Neither of these guys fill that need.

um, since when? he's 28% for his career. he's only been above 30 4 times in his career, and his highest was 33%.
and his shooting is only like the 4th worse thing about his game.
