Re: When will Pop go away from West/Diaw Combo?
Give our Serbian giant the occasional 8 minutes with Manu and the fat man.
Re: When will Pop go away from West/Diaw Combo?
Diaw is very versatile, from coming out to the perimeter and contesting 3 or shooters to getting back in transition with relative quickness, boxing out the other big, being strong and agile enough to guard PF who have mobility, etc. I think he makes any big playing alongside him look better.
West does none of those things well enough. He's less agile, really shouldn't be coming out to close out shooters, slow in transition, fails to box out. He's not a rim protector. He has however many other positives. He spaces the floor, he's a terrific passer, a tough physical player. He's good enough but will be exposed defending PnR bc Patty is too small and really inadequate on PnR defense and West has to commit to help Patty on the dribble penetration, leaving the roller open.
Obviously real centers will give either guy trouble. Hopefully Boban develops and we can count on him against certain guys and maybe next year.
I can't hate on West bc he's been more positive than negative, but he does have deficiencies as a bench center.
Re: When will Pop go away from West/Diaw Combo?
It's had it's moments, but in general, this has not been the issue it was thought to be. Fourth wing is a far bigger issue.
As an aside, when Diaw and West play together, why do dumb coaches continue to think they can get away with small ball/stretch fours on Diaw? It's as if they're unaware that he's one of the best low post players in the league.
Granted, West can flat out bully those types too, but I'd rather take my chances with his far more rudimentary post game. Plus, though a good passer in his own right, he's also a lesser one, if/when they double.

Diaw / West combo is certainly problematic. However, this is the regular season, so I'm not going to sweat much about the lineup.
The important thing is that players remain healthy. This is done by not playing your players to the ground and spreading the minutes.
Re: When will Pop go away from West/Diaw Combo?
Diaw's aggressive post play -not only looking to pass out the post but to really punish the lesser defender on him- has been a very, very pleasant surprise to me. :tu

He has been fuckin' up on defensive rotations recently which is why Manu has been yelling at him quite a bit.
Re: When will Pop go away from West/Diaw Combo?
Pop will finally make the adjustment in the offseason :wakeup

Cant rebound, cant defend penetrating guards, cant defend athletic bigs, so-so offense, but great passing though. He will eventually see that Spurstalk is right.. right guys??
..... Pop's ego preventing him from admitting that Spurstalk is right all along...
