Re: 1st All-Star Voting Returns
Let's start the Shayne Whittington for all star starter campaign #whittingtonequalswinnington
He's got the worst PER in the game at -62.5 and we should celebrate that achievement

Disagree considering how many All-star game a player makes effects a player's legacy to some degree. There are guys who have gotten into the Hall of Fame simply because they had made several all-star game selections. Granted the game is watered down it still means something to be an all-star. You dilute it when you allow a scrub like Kobe to get in due to past achievements and not for what he's doing currently.
Also I don't think Kobe as popular with the fans as the media would like to make you believe. The Lakers are last in home attendance. Kobe couldn't even beat Duncan in an espn poll taken by casual fans on who was the better player. Only reason Kobe is getting all these votes is because he has a bunch of hardcore fans who are primarily in California that are willing to vote for him over a 100 times to make sure he gets in.

Interesting take, can't say I disagree. We put too much stock into this "honor".

I can't stand Dwyane Wade, and I thought he was through 5 years ago. But I have to respect his work ethic and competitive spirit. How many knee surgeries has he had? Yet for a guy with his knees and at his age, he can still ball.

Re: 1st All-Star Voting Returns
What is Rondo doing in that list??? :lol
:lmao

Should Garnett be there too?

That is an issue and it should be addressed in the future but the construct of the all star game is what it is.
i think there is a growing contingency putting less and less stock into all star games and more into all NBA teams.
I didnt think this is going to be an issue for ever... We don't have generational players playing their last season regularly.... Duncan, Kobe, lebron... These guys are rare and maybe should be exceptions to the rule but then I see players like KYrie getting votes this year so maybe it will be an ongoing problem. I think this problem now is how popular the NBA has become and how easy it has become to vote..... Have a lot of mindless idiots who don't pay attention voting.

Not in my eyes but Garnett was never Kobe..... And has moved further and further away from being a star. I wouldn't be upset if he were, though.

As long as statistics at any level have an impact on players' careers and fans' perceptions of them, it is a travesty for one of the currently poorest players at his position to go to the ASG and deprive a place on the roster to a player who is currently deserving.

The fact that he never put the work into to being a long range shooter has always made me lose respect for him..... I just can't understand that.

I don't trash manu all the time. I dont think he is very good any more. I rarely post about it though. Fwiw, he is still one of our best options at backup wing.... I just wish that weren't the case.... But once again, I rarely talk about that.

Not sure why that would cause you to lose respect for Wade. He has his game, and it is obviously very effective. Not many players have the whole arsenal. But if he had developed a great 3, the guy would have been truly the unstoppable, complete package.

1) he was playing with lebron and was no longer the primary ball handler/playmaker..... Having a reliable 3 point shot would have obviously made them fit better.
2) he was losing athleticism and you have to develop your game into an old man game at some point to prolong your career.

He has often been a liability. Single handed costing us the series in the first series against the Heat. He has just been more bad than good most of the last 6 or 7 years in the playoffs. He costed us series he shouldn't have if he were as elite as most of you always suggested. Not to say he isn't an all time great spur and HOF due to his international success... He is just overrated in this forum and by most Spurs fans. You dudes acted like he was d wade or Kobe when that was just pure stupidity .

That team was so good he really couldn't have fucked it up... Like I said though, he has good moments just far too many bad for my liking.
