Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
Nowitzki passing, Parker failing
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2166845
By Simon Wilkinson
Special to ESPN.com
As we hit the midway point of the European Championships, it's time to hand out grades for the NBA players balling for their national teams.
Dirk Nowitzki, Germany
Stats: 26 points, 13 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks
Grade: A
Andrei Kirilenko, Russia
Stats: 16.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 2.0.apg, 3.6 spg, 2.0 bpg
Grade: A-
GROUP B
Hedo Turkoglu, Turkey
Grade: D-
GROUP C
Rasho Nesterovic, Slovenia
Stats: 6.7 ppg, 7.0 rpg
The skinny: The Spurs center made up for a sub-par performance in the opening game by leading the way in the win over France on Sunday. Rasho had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds and found the shooting touch that eluded him earlier in the tournament. Personal fouls and free-throw shooting are issues he needs to resolve before the quarterfinals.
Grade: D+
Tony Parker, France
Stats: 4.7 ppg, 1.3 apg, 25.9% field-goal shooting
The skinny:The San Antonio Spurs point guard has probably been the biggest disappointment of the tournament so far. Although he has some injuries slowing him down at the moment, it's not known whether he's making any excuses himself. Back in San Antonio, Gregg Popovich might be worrying a bit.
Grade: F :pctoss
GROUP D
Darko Milicic, Serbia Montenegro
Stats: 6.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg
Grade: B+
Vladimir Radmanovic, Serbia Montenegro
Stats: 7.3 ppg, 3 rpg
Grade: B
Marko Jaric, Serbia Montenegro
Stats: 10.4 ppg, 4 apg, 2 rpg
Grade: B-
PLAYERS WHOSE RIGHTS ARE OWNED BY NBA TEAMS
Robertas Javtokas, Lithuania
(Drafted No. 56 by the San Antonio Spurs in 2001; rights held by Spurs)
Stats: 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists
The skinny: He had a motorcycle accident in May 2002 and for 16 months didn't know if he would ever play, let alone walk again. ... Once won a slam dunk contest on a 12-foot basket. ... Left Arizona University because he got tired of sitting on the bench ... He is considered one of the best defensive centers in Europe and proved at last year's Olympics he could hold his own against NBA players. He has started all three games for Lithuania. A center averaging two assists per game in Europe is a rare thing, even more so in the European Championships.
Grade: B+

w/those numbers I give him a big F too.

Hard to argue with the poor stats, but this:
"not known whether he's making any excuses himself"
... is just slime.

This is the first I've heard about this guy since he was in the accident (I'm sure there's been plenty posted but I didn't remember his name). Sounds like he's made a huge comeback. Is there a chance that he can eventually make the team in San Antonio or any NBA team for that matter?

Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
additional Parker stats:
3p FG 0/9 0%
55% FT
26 min. PG

Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
This is some fucking badass report ...........
This guy is a moron......

Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
He forgot Lorbek . What an idiot who dont even know who play where .

Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
1. Writer makes his grades without watching Eurobasket!??? WTF
Parker has an F for three games, but Boris Diaw gettin C- for being a pillar of a team with incredible numbers?
Slovenia Team would be filled with players with grades under C+? What a pile of shit...
Bostjan Nachbar C+, eventhough he is the first offensive choice
Sani Becirovic C-, though he is a player of the game against Greece, and solid player against France, where he had much attention on himself.
Rasho Nesterovich D+? If you remove the the Bosnia uverture, the guy was briliant! WTF? Do not forget he played in the toughest group and won the only double-double of the group. It is still possibility that 3 teams of group C would be in the semis! So what is the meaning of this grade? Another underrated Spur? Or just undderated Slovene? Which is worse? Tut, I mean!
Primoz Brezec C- And that is based on statistics of one game, writer even forgot foul trouble in game against Greece. When that taken into account, he would be even a D? Do not forget Darko got B+, and that was given for 15min performance??
Getting NBA gradings in Eurobasket is like apples and oranges. Double-doubles are rare, dishing is hardly easy and quarters are two minutes shorter. I guess ESPN never told that to their writer? ESPN does not televise this tournament, I guess. Commentator would tell him at least such information, wouldn't it?

Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
How is this surprising?
Calling Tony Parker a leader is like calling Shaq a professional......when the going gets tough, the French get going.........
-
Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
Parker is not exerting himself. Frankly I wish he was off the court altogether.
-
Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
Those are bad stats! 25.9% fg%? Ouch.
I think Tony is just trying to do too much at once. Also, he knows the team sucks and isn't going to the championship so he might have probably pulled a Mcgrady/Carter and gone AWOL on the team. (Not that I'm saying that's right)

It is not harder, but there is no run and gun. Do you think Nash could get all those assists with defensive oriented team?

Gettin different statistics and making different strategies does not mean being harder...just different. I talk of incompetence and not bad grades. If Kirilenko has A and neither in Greek team has a B by that standard, how come you can expect Greece will win?
Euroball is not a different game, but is a different playing ground (smaller). ;)
So relax.

Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
To even more help my argument... Greece has won against AK47, and some more NBA stars with good grades.
Greek Player of the match would have an F also. Grade A of Greece had a sorry thing for a game. Moreover Kirilenko would still deserve his A grade even when this game was over, making 20pt, 16rb, 3bl, 2st 2 as. So grades are not worth a gentle shit on my part. COUSE RUSSIANS ARE OUT.
ICE COLD BREWSKI, I hope you see what I mean. You must look at Eurobasket to grade players. Even now people in Europe are raving on Marko Jarič who is accused to destroying the harmony of his national team by his behaviour. On court with his stats he is B- player? And Radmanovic, the other sorry excuse for a team player, had even a B? ICE COLD BREWSKI i hope you cannot get behind such grades...
I would like to think highly of you. At least one in a while.

My only point was that ESPN has ruined their crediblity with me. I don't take anything they say seriously.

Angel, no need to explain yourself to Brewski (the reasons are obvious).

May Ginobili be with you.

because people focus on a basketball players weaknesses instead of the their strengths. Especially when the player has some glaring weaknesses.
With parker we have to appreciate what he brings to the table that no other point guard can bring to the spurs.
#1 Ball Control- the guy doesn't turn the ball over and is very reliable with the ball.
#2- He is the best penetrating/finishing point guard in the NBA, bar none.
#3- When he's focused he can be a very good defender.
#4- He's a decent rebounder for his size
#5- He has the rare ability to take over games and win them by himself.
#6- He's coachable
#7- He's only 23.
Negatives.
#1- Jump shot needs some work(Chip Englend)
#2- He has struggled in Close out games. (With age and more Eva Longoria's he should work through this)

Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
Parker played decent today. And apparently helped the team a lot when he came in. (five assists in his first few minutes ?) Anyway, he has struggled in this tourney, but I don't really care. TimmyD sucked in the Olympics too. I don't really care what the Spurs players do in the summer - just don't get hurt.
By the way, I think that it will take a long time for Chip to fix Tony's shot (he's changing his whole mechanics) but when he's done, I think Spurs fans will appreciate Tony a lot more.
-
Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
Took Tiger Woods a year to change his mechanics and for it to work.
We wont see the fruits of Chip's labor prob till next year.
-
Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
Brewski with more "I hate Parker" posts??? NOOOOOOO I WONT HEAR OF IT!!!!
Hes played bad in a euro tournament.
Who fuckin cares.
What does that have to do with the NBA, or the Spurs?
BTW, Walton, the canadiens arent exactly known for stellar backbone, so you critisizing them is pretty amusing.
-
Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
Yeah that's it. Blame the whole thread on me as usual. I'm not the one that started it but go ahead and blame me if it lifts your skirt.
I'm just here to count the lame excuses that pop up in these threads. Those can get damn funny.

Yes. I just spewed so much "Parker Hate" in this thread. :rolleyes
Read the thread again. I'm just ammusing myself with all of the lame excuses Parker homers (like yourself) can come up with whenever he plays poorly. Hell, I didn't even mention Parker in this thread until now.
One of us needs to work on his "comprehension skills". But it isn't me.

"Parker is just not exerting himself" is not a fact. It's an excuse.
Assuming the writer is writing his article without having followed Euro-Bball is not a fact. It's an excuse. Did you keep reading after the article? Here's a quote for you in case you missed it:
"Simon Wilkinson writes for The Press Association in Europe."
Hmmm. I'm no expert but it sounds to me like this European writer does follow Euro Basketball. Or maybe he just ignores it and writes about it anyway. :rolleyes
Trying to make it sound like Parker has shitty numbers because it's "Euro-Basketball" is not a fact. It's an excuse. Parker was drafted from a French team that played "Euro Basketball" so it's not like the concept is new to him.
I'm still waiting for the guy that said, "Tony just misses Eva" in the 'growing up the hardway' thread. That one was classic.

man.
Your manhate for Parker is sickening.
but of course your still mr

Manhate? I don't think you could sound any gayer if you tried.
Nice dodge by the way. And once again, I never said Udrih was better than Parker. I said I'd take Udrih over Parker. (personal preference). Big difference.

Simon Wilkinson is at best an English fellow, who made his career looking at London Towers. I do not want to bash him, but the guy made a lousy homework. I would not even want to comment, if this was an article from an American in Belgrade. Then I would be just pissed off.
Morever, I did not just claim that he did not follow Eurobasket, I gave proof on my statement. Guy judged performances strictly on NBA performance statistics. Why that is not a good measurment, i explained in the section on apples and oranges.
Excuse would be, that Parker was important to the team even he did not make his shots. But none would say that. Guy sucked and gradually got to his NBA standard. We just say writer sucks big time. Proofs I won't present for the second time. The best proof however is recent:
Kirilenko being destroyed by a team with at best b performance by Papalouskas (who was an F player till that game)
honorable mention: France over Lithuania; France over SCG; Izrael over Spain

Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
I saw the replay of the game last night and alos was impressed with Parker's running of the team. France overall is young and very athletic. If they get a stud big man, say a Mahinmi, they are going to be kings of Euroland in a few years.
-
Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....

No he did notˇˇˇˇˇˇˇˇˇ. With more minutes of Duncan U.S. fate would have be different.

Yes. Mahinmi-Diaw connection would be sick. Or Pietrus-Mahnimi under the boards! Still... with Rasho, Kasun, Kirilenko or Krstic as the opposition, Mahnimi is pretty much under the control. France has a bright future eventhough.
-
Re: Parker Failing at Euro Champonships....
Wow, this is very worrying. He will probably only average 4ppg on 29% shooting for the Spurs too!
