Re: Spurs worth $1.15 billion
Pretty reasonable considering our market..
-
Re: Spurs worth $1.15 billion
Surprised the Sixers are that low considering their market and long history.
-
Re: Spurs worth $1.15 billion
Imagine the money to move the Pels to Seattle...

Eh, Hawks are like most Atlanta teams that struggle with fan support; everyone is a distant second to the University of Georgia.

Location, location, location. Tbh

Re: Spurs worth $1.15 billion
Cavs value would go down $350 million overnight if LBJ leaves.

That doesn't explain the Warriors to me unless the talk of relocating to SF is coming to fruition.

Clippers being worth more than the Warriors did surprise me.:downspin:

Re: Spurs worth $1.15 billion
I'd like to know how much that correlates to market size.

Re: Spurs worth $1.15 billion
Best franchise in professional sports and we're not even in the top 10 in value in our own league.

People in Atlanta don't care about UGA. People in Atlanta don't care about sports in general.
Outside of Atlanta is a different story - it's all about SEC football. But the Atlanta Metro area is terrible when it comes to fan support.

They're moving to SF in 2018 I think.

That's not true, it's a big sports city. SEC football is huge, in all the Atlanta areas...I used to live there, it's a major sports city. The Thrashers couldn't make it though....

I live about 1.5 hours away and go down there for various events. I guess I phrased that wrong. In the Atlanta Metro area they care about sports but aren't devoted to any specific teams, save for the Braves. Atlanta has a majority black population, with many of them coming from outside GA to Atlanta for work opportunities. There are too many people in Atlanta who no real ties to the city. You can't call it a major sports city when every franchise in the city consistently struggles with attendance. Even the Braves, who have the most loyal fans in the city, have basically average attendance relative to the rest of MLB for the past 5 years.

fair enough man, can't disagree with the take...it's a similar issue here in Houston, just have a lot more people to spread around to the different interests...

Re: Spurs worth $1.15 billion
Isn't that relatively high, I mean they are 11th not 30th and they are in san antonio.
-
Re: Spurs worth $1.15 billion
reasonable???
its actually an amazing feat given our market. North Mexico is mainly only into enchiladas and chupacabras tbh
-
Re: Spurs worth $1.15 billion
I wonder where the Thunder would be with that team, that success, still in Seattle...

The move to SF is decided. The target is 2018, but there's a lot of talk that (at the very least) it won't be the beginning of the season. Talk is cheap.

It's almost unthinkable, given the size of the metro area.
Anyone who remembers the Knicks being good is probably approaching retirement age. They're at the top strictly because of market size. The Spurs have an incredible fan base, considering where they are located.
