Re: Charles Barkley Says Tim Duncan Is Done
I think it's more of Bill Simmons Celtics homerism than anything. I can buy us being overshadowed by the Kobe/shaq Lakers and even the lbj/wade heat but not the kg Celtics

Wow Bill with some homerism with that take. I was never jealous of that Celtics team they underachieved big time. They should have had 3 titles instead of 1. The 2014 spurs title will always be more memorable than the '08 Celtics championship team.

Correct by the time the Celts had their little run the Spurs were on the decline after 07 and were not serious contenders imo until 012 again but the homer Simmons had to put his team in there somewhere.

I mean lets look at this realistically.
This is the most irrelevant part of the season. No one cares about the middle.. He gets in shape, takes a break then gets back in shape right before the playoffs.
It's the best way to preserve him and Boban has impressed so much that he's just a luxury until they playoffs.
If he's not playing in late March we can have this conversation

Re: Charles Barkley Says Tim Duncan Is Done
Sometimes I think Pop and Tim pull psych jobs on players. Not that Tim's knee isn't bothering him, but what if Pop approached Tim and said,
"I need LaMarcus to be more of a leader on this team. Although he's playing well for us, there's just something missing. He seems to be content on just being one of the guys, deferring somewhat, maybe because he's afraid to disrupt the 'Spurs Way' especially since we're winning. I want him to be aggressive offensively, more 'Portland LaMarcus'. He's coming along, but we need to fast track him into this leadership role. I want him to know, along with Kawhi, this is his team. I don't want to see another interview, where LA says, 'I'm new, just trying to learn my role, fit in....".
"How's that knee? How about taking a few games off? With some big games ahead, this might be a great opportunity to ask LA to step up in your absence."

When did he say this? Before or after LMA talked about being subservient to KL? Either way I agree and wish LMA would take it to heart. Theres room for both KL and LMA to be stars, they have different skill sets.
Ooops, just reread it, you were paraphrasing

Wasn't paraphrasing. Just made it up. I'm just guessing Pop and TD do a lot of big picture thinking in the interest of the team. Maybe they had this type of conversation about LA which could explain the extended time TD is taking to rest his knee.

He hasn't been out of shape in years.

Re: Charles Barkley Says Tim Duncan Is Done
He is still a major defender on the team and in the league.

Ooops again, thats what I meant. If Timmy is GOAT at one thing its seeing the big picture. I believe the knee thing is real but believe that if he had to he would play. I dont think Pops is Belichick in that Belichick is almost evil about his plotting and planning, Pops is extending the life of a legend. Hes not about to sacrifice the postseason for mid season games. I hope its Manu next.

yeah agree, if this was the playoffs, he'd be fighting through it. He is in pain though, he showed it in how he moved in the Lakers game. That said, they're so deep at the forward position, why risk him? Let West and Marjanovic take the pounding and let him be fresh for April 10

Exactly, which is why i took the Golden State game with a grain of salt. His presence defensively changes things. Not the entire deficit and how they played, but, would've been a threat. Also to beat Golden State, its like people say, you have to pound them down low force double teams. Duncan still has a good back to the basket 10 foot and in game, and that would've helped as well.

Duncan is #1 in defense real plus minus this year. Not 20 or 10 or 5, 1.
