Tim Duncan for DPOY..
Metrics, eye test and intangibles support his case..

If Duncan was playing and Kawhi wasn't, how would we look faggot?

Spurs were undefeated in the finals before cornrows became a Spur. Let that sink in daboom.

Re: Tim Duncan for DPOY..
That's like replacing Kawhi with another Tony Parker type player on defense. Just not going to fucking work. :lmao

Re: Tim Duncan for DPOY..
Duncan is the franchise and pop still riding his coattails at 40 years old smh.

Spurs got bounced by the 8th seed Grizz RIGHT BEFORE Kawhi arrived & swept them w/ Kawhi on the roster:lol

Which is why the phrase "Team Duncan" exists.

Trying to imply that Kiwi was a big reason why it happened :lol Parker was healthy the second time, Duncan lost weight, and Blair got benched. That's the difference on why they murdered that scrub ass team

Based on the history of the team when Kawhi has been out with injury: Tim makes them a legit squad, Kawhi makes them elite.

Tony with the 24.5ppg, 3.5rpg, 9.5apg.... Compared to Kawhi's 11ppg and 7rpg lol.
Bottom line is.... Duncan has anchored an NBA best defense without Kawhi. If this is what a Kawhi anchored defense looks like.... :lmao

I'm not disagreeing with that. I'm saying take Kawhi or Tim out of the game and the team looks worse on defense. You can't take these games and outright say Duncan is our DPOY.

Re: Tim Duncan for DPOY..
Great defensive bigs are move valuable than great perimeter defenders. The biggest reason why bigs are more valuable is that they can cover up defensive lapses by teammates more easily than perimeter defenders.

Kawhi has the lateral quickness of a PF, gets blown by all the time. Disgusting tbh. He's an elite help defender though.

What you said is the truth.
We will need a rim protecting big to be a legit contending squad without Tim.

All the time? :lol Kawhi's shut down players holding them to their worst FG% in the season.

He can recover pretty well, and has good reaction timing (IE the block he had on KD opening game) to make up for it, but yes, quick guards/wings get by him a decent amount of the time. So there isn't any confusion, I'm not saying he gets blown by like Tony or somebody, but he's no Scottie Pippen, shit, or Danny Green even(when he's locked in).

Kawhi has defended so well Harden, Bledsoe and other quick guards this season, he's the best defender in the league...At Pippen level? Most of times.

So we're just gonna pretend like Green didn't guard those 2 players?
If you want to see Kawhi guard a quick guard. Look no further but to look at Pre-Indiana Monta Ellis.
Watch at your own risk

I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to watch that shit again burn the tape from those first six games. Thank God Pop stopped messing around and put Danny on him finally.

Did you say that Kawhi didn't guard Harden in the last games?
Green's on the bench almost 6 minutes in each quarter, Harden is still on the court and is guarding by Kawhi.

Re: Tim Duncan for DPOY..
Kawhi won DPOY last season after making an impact when he returned to the lineup so I guess Tim should get it this season for being missed when he has been out of the lineup.:lol

Re: Tim Duncan for DPOY..
I'd really love for TD to win dpoy, he's deserving. It would be long overdue. But Feline fetish and greatcuck 313 are some of the dumbest sumbitches I've ever seen.
-
Re: Tim Duncan for DPOY..
Dpoy is one and only draymond green, not only he got great defensive skills and can guard every position, he also has great mentalist power to get into players head, intimidate them and to make them his bitch, just like he did to lma in the last matchup...
-
Re: Tim Duncan for DPOY..
Is it going to be this way after every loss? LMA not playing the entire second quarter hurt the team too much. If Tim isn't going to play LMA can't turd it up. Which has happened in both losses. For all that Kyrie and Lebron going off on that zone defense the Spurs still won the 3rd and 4th quarters. The Spurs usually don't find their identity till the Rodeo trip. Relax people. OP is correct, we won't ring without Tim and our D is better. The Kawhi contingent is also correct, we won't ring without Kawhi. I'll take some L's if it means Tim is 100 come playoff time.
-
Re: Tim Duncan for DPOY..
I would support Timmy for DPOY. I would support Kawhi for it. You know, I'm just a caveman, your world frightens and confuses me. You have machines that fly. But one thing I do know is the SPURS' defense is historically good when both Timmy and Kawhi are playing.
Get well soon Tim.

This. Take one of them out and there will be cracks in the line. It might not look so bad against weaker competition but it's glaring against the other top teams.
There's simply no one to protect the rim with Timmy out. You can't duplicate what he's done but the Spurs need to find someone to grow along with Leonard. LMA is a short term answer. Boban at best is a bench/situational option.
The perimeter takes a severe hit with Leonard out. You have Green to help but the other guards (Parker, Mills, Manu) are weak links. Simmons isn't great but he might be able to improve with time and coaching.
I think you mentioned in the game day thread that this wasn't a great week for Leonard defensively. It's true. His strength is locking into one player and helping on others/recovering on his own man. Against the Warriors and Cavs he's been asked to do too much. You can't expect him to shut someone down when he's being bounced around on assignments. You guard guys differently. Having to guard Thompson a few possessions, then Curry, then Green, back to Thompson, etc is tough for even great defenders. Same with the Cavs. Lebron is a beast to guard on its own but to then pick up Love or that ugly zone is asking for trouble. It's even worse when you're expecting help behind you (funneling the player into the rim protector) and lack of communication.
The Spurs need a rim protector and guards who can do their own job in the worse way.

Get well soon Tim.
The debacle against the Worriers & Cavs was a ploy by Pop to reward Tim w/ a farewell DPOY gift just like he sat out Kawhi then unleashed him after the All-Star break which earned him a DPOY award.:toast

Re: Tim Duncan for DPOY..
Spurs are now -5 in Def Rating without TD 93.8 vs 98.9--a mark that exactly put us on the same level with Warriors D..

Paint problems With Duncan sidelined, the Spurs have given up 52 points or more in the paint in three of their last four games, including 54 in Monday’s 107-92 win over Orlando.
The Spurs were surrendering just 39.2 points in the paint when Duncan played in his last game Jan. 22.
“You know he is going to be in the right position,” Manu Ginobili said of Duncan. “With his size and length, he’s going to bother a lot of shots. He’s going to get two or three blocks, some big boards.”
