“The player who was supposed to be coming today has a heavy heart,” Benjamin said without identifying the player. “Doesn’t feel comfortable doing it while this situation is going on in Dallas. So he will move it back.”

Friday was supposed to be a time to celebrate for Iowa running back recruit Eno Benjamin. The Hawkeyes were expected to add another member to their 2017 recruiting class on Friday and Benjamin was looking forward to congratulating his future college teammate.
The Wylie, Texas native even promoted the expected commitment on Thursday by telling Hawkeye Nation on Twitter to be on the lookout tomorrow in reference to Friday.
By Thursday evening, though, the circumstances had changed in the wake of the ambush in Dallas in which five police officers were shot and killed by a lone gunman.
OL Xavier Newman told OrangeBloods today he does plan on being in Austin for the UTL camp, but he's also planning a trip to OU.
Two more attendees for the UTL camp, per OrangeBloods:
2018 QB Clayton Tune (Carrollton Hebron)
2018 WR Al'vonte Woodard (Houston Lamar)
WR Damion Miller will be in Austin for UTL, according to OrangeBloods.
247 reporting tennison will visit alabama & skip utl......... likely to commit to alabama on the visit
24/7 reporting TE Major Tennison will be visiting Alabama the weekend of the UTL camp.
They believe Alabama will take his commitment if he wants to flip, so it's something to watch out for.
Totally agree. This kid has been a flip risk ever since the day he committed. This class is going to be smaller anyway, so maybe Strong should just cut ties with Newman and Tennison and be done with it. Give them the freedom to go somewhere else, but take away their safety net.
I get that it's Alabama, but I don't see Tennison fitting in that offense. Outside of the title game, they don't use tight ends the way Tennison will like. Not to mention they already have 9 TEs on the roster, not including Irvin Smith. I honestly don't even know how Alabama can afford to have so many TEs on scholarship and still be looking for more.
Won't be killer for Texas, like many have said, if we had a real TE game changer we would use him but it's not required in this offense. Be just fine in 4wide and block with splits and routes
Is it football season yet?
I'm drinking the kool-aid with this guy. Someone whom seems pretty connected from following:
i am not a football player, not a coach, nor much of anything else related to football beyond a highly educated and experienced fan.
But, I will say this, I got a look at the freshmen in person and they are absolutely gigantic. You don't need to be a football coach to know that 15 guys over 300 lbs is unusual. "They are getting into shape quick and have a very tight bond".
The last thing I will say is that the shark is a total monster....easily the biggest freshman lb I have ever seen. He is also incredibly polite, charming and charismatic. Future leader....probably in football but in like for sure. Easy to see why he wanted to be with malik.
I am hearing Porter may be the leader of the class. Can play today, totally ripped. Shane has been well chronicled.
Hager has crazy hair, reminded me of that awesome tight end fromCA who hurt his knee tragically (who everyone loved)
My orange tinted glasses just got another layer of tint. I hope some of the breaks fall our way this year....
Some quotes from LB Baron Browning (Orangebloods):
On Malik Jefferson, who is out here at The Opening as a LB coach.
“I like the type of person he is. I really don’t know him too well. We follow each other on twitter but we haven’t really exchanged words on a normal daily basis. But when he was over there giving us a pre-game speech, he gave a good speech on making good decisions and being aware of your environment and what’s going on around you, don’t make dumb decisions.”
On UTL:
“To be honest, I’m just really looking forward to getting back out there and catching up with the coaches that I haven’t seen in a minute since when I drove back down there after the state track meet. I’m just looking forward to getting back out there, chatting with them and catching up.”
On Strong:
“Coach Strong is recruiting me pretty hard. We text a lot. He guarantees me that I’ll get a degree. That’s one thing my parents like. They were really impressed with him. He wasn’t like a coach that will beat around the bush, he’s really straight forward. That really caught their attention from the jump.”
“We just joke around. Like a friend almost. I know he’s not my friend, at the end of the day if I went there he’d be my head coach and I’d have the utmost respect for him, but we just joke around like that. Like when I went up there after the state track meet, he offered me some Cheez-Its but I didn’t want any. When we were talking the last time, he said ‘You know I have a lot of Cheez-its for you, just go ahead and come on and commit to UT.’ We just kind of joke around with things like that.”
Browning will graduate in December.
Comments from Houston Episcopal DT Marvin Wilson (Orangebloods):
On what he’s looking for in a college:
“Just going and seeing where I can be comfortable. If you can’t be comfortable wherever you go, you want to be able to develop. So somebody I can depend on, like a coach, if it’s far away and I feel comfortable, that’s where I might go. If it’s in-state like Texas or Texas A&M, that’s where I’ll go. It’s wherever I feel comfortable.”
“I’ve been talking to coach Bedford a lot. I’ll be at Under the Lights. I go there every year, just chill with coach Haley, still get that feel for Texas.”
On UT:
“It’s a holding pattern right now. That’s why I’m waiting until National Signing Day to make my decision. I’m waiting for everybody’s season to play out, pray about it, talk to my mom and my family about it, see how everything goes.
“I don’t want to say they have to win 12 games or anything. Just showing me improvement, that they’re going in the right direction.”
“They (UT) try to sell me on coming in and being a leader. They came to my practice and saw me and I’m on my guys like a cannibal. If you’re not doing it right, there’s no reason to do it at all. So they just see me being a leader there.”
