Leonard's dribble drive game.
Last night's game was the best display of his ever growing skills in that regard that I've seen yet. His ball handling has a taken a leap.
:hat

Re: Leonard's dribble drive game.
Noticed that as well. It was a pleasant surprise. That's always been the weakest aspect of his game compared to other superstar players in the league.
-
Re: Leonard's dribble drive game.
Yeah, something i've noticed this year is his lack of basket drives, always settles for a jumper.
I mean, its worked a lot, but I do miss his basket drives, he's so capable and should be laying down posters on some of these little bitches, like DJ and Dray Dray.
Dray Dray is such a little bitch, Spurs need to expose this fraud.

Re: Leonard's dribble drive game.
He just needs to work on lateral movement with ball, without, and on D. He needs quick feet drills.

Well... here's to him. I have a Double Port Balvenie in my hand and I'm drinking it in this faggot's name.
Here's to some faggots who are worth the read.

Unless Pop goes full Phil in the playoffs, Dray will be left up to the refs.
Take from that what you will.

Re: Leonard's dribble drive game.
Needs to be more agressive with it..He is the second most efficient scorer in the league in that department, but attempts the least FG percentage off such drives compared to the elite of the league....That mindset and the playmaking off such driving opportunities is what's left for Kawhi to be the complete package..And he is only 24 :wow..

I take it like West should chuck a Horry on Nash

Re: Leonard's dribble drive game.
Yeah, he needs to learn to try and get to the rim more and finish or draw the foul. That bothers me sometimes when he always pulls of for a jumper.

I don't mind him taking mid-range and long distance shots. His jumper has been deadly this year--so smooth he makes it look easy. Plus, a jumper usually takes less energy than driving to the basket, which leaves him fresher on D.
He can take it to the rim when the stakes are higher.

Re: Leonard's dribble drive game.
Hes handling improved but its the spin moves of the dribble thats getting him seperation. Also it helps that hes 30lbs heavier than his rookie year.

I wonder how what their interpretation of dribble-drive is?
I consider it anything where you get into the paint through dribbling. Indeed, Leonard doesn't finish at the rim like Lebron, Westbrook, etc, but he's mastered that 6-8foot jumper/hook off the spin move.

He's #1-2 on 3's, #2 on drives, he was #2 on ISOs in December, #5 in post-ups...Kawhi's just amazing.

They rely on Sportvu player tracking data..
Quote:
- Drives (defined as "any touch that starts at least 20 feet of the hoop and is dribbled within 10 feet of the hoop, excluding fast breaks") - points per game on drives, team points per game on drives, total player points on drives.

Re: Leonard's dribble drive game.
Been saying this to a lot of people (td21) and Mid iirc, Kawhi needs the time and (touches in late game situations) to develop. Looks like he's given that now, look what monster he's turning in to.

There's been some improvement in his actual ball handling---but he is still forcing things, driving into three defenders far too often, and then having a problem with TOs -- when the smart move is to pass off or take a quick pullup. He's getting better at that quick pullup. That isn't the problem. It's the judgement factor that needs honing. Of course, I want him to be perfect in all areas.

Re: Leonard's dribble drive game.
The handles are getting there..And then a Wardell-like 3 :wow..

He doesn't even get "Superstar calls" otherwise he would be #1.

It also helps Pop is letting him run PnRs w/ LMA rather than Danny or Porker.:wakeup

Look at how the entire defense on the inside collapses with that drive stutter as well. That makes everyone else's job so much easier.

Agreed. I'd also like to see more Kobe-like creativity when driving or in the post. Throw in some pump fakes and drop steps to beat multiple defenders etc I see spurts of creativity with more touches he's getting, I'd just like to see more along with with better judgement (not dribbling into three defenders etc)
Hes only 24 though, so I'm excited to see what his peak will be like.

This is the only way a player can develop. Unfortunately with the Spurs being in win now mode they weren't really able to do this with Kawhi in his first three years. He's only now starting to get those touches. He needs the experience with the game on the line type of situations.

He can take it to the rim when the stakes are higher.
When the stakes are higher, he can't just hope for the best that suddenly the refs are going to give him the respect that they haven't given him all season. The Refs have benefited from the fact that the Spurs don't REALLY complain like other teams do. Kawhi should be expecting calls at this point, even if they aren't superstar calls.
