Matt Bonner appreciation thread
Served his time in SA with class. Made some big shots over the years. Seems like a good guy and I wish him well in whatever he does.

Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
If Matt is waived they should give him a big send off on Thursday! I'm sure the crowd in SA would give him much love!

Stylistic...
Manu.
Remember him?

Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
I like Matty, so does Pop. Pop lets Matty go on his own terms. He probably won't be waived. If he is, Houston picks him up.

Won't be playoff eligible. Shame for whoever plays the Rockets in the playoffs

You mean players who make unimportant shots in blowout games and then proceed to miss every single open shot in the playoffs?

He's never mattered in the playoffs other than against OKC to "spread the floor". It seemed to work.
-
Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
I love Matt Bonner.
But I hope it's him.

Sure, but he was very unique for his time..a 40+% 3-point shooting big that wasn't a liability on defense and always a net positive was extremely rare..
He was a poor playoff performer, sure, but his style of play was unique for it's time, and has now become prevalent around the NBA..Bonner was one of the pioneers of today's era, tbh..

Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
GArbage more times than not in big games....... But seemed like a great guy and teamMate.
-
Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
Matt Bonner did not pioneer the stretch 4 position. Matt Bonner was not a "Net Positive" on defense. I understand we're supposed to romanticize things for the sake of remembrance threads but sheesh.

I said he was one of the pioneers, which is true, and a net positive, overall, which is a fact:lol

I will add that my gf, who is a ginger, has a Matt Bonner signed jersey. The great red hope.

as long as you're not married and don't have children yet, there's still hope. 5 years is nothing, as I've seen sooooooo many times with others around me... :D

The only place Matt Bonner was a net positive was in the plus/minus column, and the sandwich making industry.
-

EDP445 has been waiting for this moment

King plus/minus will never go away, unfortunately

Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
Bonner beasting; bad news for Ralph.
-
Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
Interesting thing happened in the game against the Wolves.
Bonner came out of the bench first, hit a couple of 3 point shots and to make it worse, Butler only came into play come garbage time.
The guy making the call was Messina and he may have just telegraphed who is going to be cut.
Appears that is may be Butler's last day.
-
Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
Sorry mah nigga Razzy Buttts
Bonner's here to stay
Matty should have retired tbh :lol

He played yesterday like he wasn't going to retire. He also seemed to have a new stroke going. He's firing away with very little hesitation and with a very quick release.

Might very well be Butler's last day, but I'm pretty sure it has absolutely nothing to do with any of this.

Just saying that Messina telegraphed Spurs final decision.
If it were Pop coaching, It'll be harder to read the tea leaves.

He probably didn't.

Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
Your line of reasoning could easily be reversed...that he gave Bonner minutes because he knew this was it for him...but I don't think either is the case.

Yes I think they made the decision already and this game wasn't going to sway them any other way. If anything like you I feel the Spurs would showcase the guy they were more likely to cut to allow his agent footage that would help that guy get another deal.
-
Re: Matt Bonner appreciation thread
Precedent?
Anyone remember what happened just prior to previous Spurs getting released.
Michael Finley?

the notion of showcasing a guy is like a decision that is above the pay grade of Messina. Messina was instinctively inserting the players he believed could make a good contribution. Well, it turns out that he thinks it is Bonner over Butler. That is clearly evident here.
I would not make the same conclusion if Pop was coaching. But with Messina coaching, the truth is more transparent.

Good to know you have a direct line into Messina's brain to acquire this information. So what's he having for lunch today? Did he take a shit this morning?

He's a scam artist that's been paid millions to be Pop's fuckboy cum receptacle. I hope he chokes on a hoagie.

I do not give 2 flying fucks if he's a good team mate and friend...I care about what he does on the court.
He can be a coach or throw balls at players, not take up a fucking roster spot whilst we're in the fight for a championship and we have a team like the Warriors to go up against.
100% scam artist
A disgrace to the Spurs organization

Still don't understand why ppl insist on hating Bonner for Pop's mismanagement of him. I for one am glad he's still putting on a Spurs jersey, and will be equally happy if/when he joins the coaching/FO staff. Fuck you haters.

You've never watched him if you think this is the Bonner you're going to get in the playoffs.
Dammit if this guy could just have one defining playoff moment...a bucket, qtr, game, whatever! I'd be willing to forgive his lame ass for all the money and roster spots he stole.

That's because it's easier to be a Bonner than to be a Duncan. Bonners are a dime a dozen, but Timmy's one of a kind.
