Questions for Argentinians
Do any of you guys know if by some miracle there is a small chance that we'll be able to get more live broadcasts of Spurs games this coming season? or will we have to settle for the same as last season? You'd think that with all the stir Manu's success has brought we might be able to see more of the Spurs http://spurstalk.com/forums/images/s...idepressed.gif

Re: Questions for Argentinians
I second the motion, but ... this is a ESPN's issue; perhaps Latin American is ... a small market for them ... years ago we (Latin American) used to watch NBA games thru FOX, TNT and now only ESPN.
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
Last year wasn't that bad. At least there where 5 games a month. The previous year was even worse...
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
Only five games a month?!!!!!!! That would drive me nuts!
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
Hmmm...It would be difficult, but not impossible. ESPN holds the regular season TV rights for Latin America, so they re-broadcast the TNT, NBC, or USA's ESPN signal back to us. The problem with the agreement is that they only broadcast two games per week. Last season when they broadcasted three in a week, it was some kind of temporary deal done on the run to broadcast an unscheduled game. They would have to re-negotiate the deal in order to broadcast more games, and I see that as a very distant posibility. Last season they didn't want to pay more for the renewal of the current deal (2 games per week), and that was the reason why they stopped the broadcast for some time. So far the only thing we can do, is keep sending those e-mails to ESPN Latin America asking for more NBA games.

Yep, that is true. Since Latin America is not an homogeneus market, they aren't willing to pay more money for TV right of different events. If they pay too much for the NBA, they would get good ratings in Argentina, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and other basketball interested countries, but not in the whole region. The same happens with baseball, where they get good ratings in Venezuela, the Caribbean, but no one watches it outside those countries, so that's why they only broadcast one or two games per week.
Back in 1996, oh, those were the days, we could get like 5/7 games a week with the basic cable service.

Re: Questions for Argentinians
I really hope they do so. The Manu fenomenon might have some good effect after all.
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
Last year there weren't 2 games a week. There was only one game on fridays and 1 Wednesday game a month. (5 games a month).
I remember a few years ago even deciding which game to watch, the one on tnt or the one on espn. :depressed
I agree, those were the days. Last year, they didn't even own the rights of the finals...
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
Unfortunately, ESPN will continue showing only 5 games per month. (one every friday, and one in the second wednesday of the month).
Now we will have to wait to see if DirecTV offers the NBA League pass again.
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
I don't understand. Basketball is more popular than ever in Argentina so they show fewer games on fewer channels?
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
'DirecTV offers the NBA League pass again"
I would expect satellite to offer the best chance of seeing the most games.
NBA League Pass, esp if you buy it at discount before the season starts, is a great deal. I don't bat an eye getting it as soon as its offered each October.

They haven't offered NBA League pass since 2002 I think. However, they continue to offer the NFL packs. :rolleyes

Re: Questions for Argentinians

Re: Questions for Argentinians

Me too, I mean, NFL? What the...? I've never seen in person someone playing American Football over here, oh, wait, maybe there's the answer: cheaper TV rights. Maybe ESPN doesn't wanna take chances and buy the rights, or the NBA is asking them too much money for the rights. I don't know, all I know is that I'm pissed off, then the NBA shouldn't complain about Torrents offering full games (which by the way, are not live and don't have a good audio & video quality). If they offered the League Pass here I would buy it without blinking my eyes, and I know quite a few people that would do the same.

Sadly, I've been told NFL pass is no longer available here either. If you know the contrary, please tell me :)

Actually it was going to pertain to 3_d W___d s__t ho__s , but I figured I'd hold off on that one in the spirit of political correctness, and to honor our new peace treaty. :angel

I get no more than 5 games a month, maybe 4.
Only when it's on TNT or ESPN or ABC.

You might be better off going straight to the NBA and reminding Mr. Stern that if he really wants to build a global fan base, providing global access to his product (i.e. League Pass) would be a REALLY good place to start. Anybody know how long the ESPN-LatinAmerica contract is?

I thought ALVAREZ lived in the U.S., don't you get more games there? Or have you moved back here?
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
If you guys want...And if anyone knows how...I would be willing to send each game to you....I know it's illegal to retape the games, but no spurs fan should be restricted from viewing even one game....I tivo every game, so if there is a way to send it by mass, like posting a link to download, or something, let me know. I am more than happy to help out a fellow Spur fan.

Re: Questions for Argentinians
How many live NBA broadcasts do you think we get in Slovenia? Last year we got to see the finals, that's all. :( I stayed up all night to see all seven games, of course :)
Nobody on the TV networks cares that we have 5 players in the NBA.

You guys have to work on that before I move there. = )

Re: Questions for Argentinians
I don't think there's anything fans can do about it. It seems to me that the situation is worse every year. Hey, maybe this year, we won't even get to see the finals. :(

The NBA should get smart and come up with an online viewing system like the one I used to watch the EC games on.
They would make good money on it.

Im quite sure that if the Spurs wouldnt have made it to the finals we wouldnt have been able to watch them. ESPN wasnt broadcasting them over here.

Thatīs too bad, because that 5 games were of the NBA, not of the Spurs
We can see some games, one or two por month, but was enough
We can saw the Phoenix game of the 48, and a few more
If we can see 5 games a month will be amazing
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
Even if you live in the US, anywhere outside of San Antonio you'd only be able to se 1 or 2 Spurs games a month. So Not even in US they show many Spurs games!
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
Isn't there any pay per view website where we could find more games being broadcast?
I know that stream video from the net sucks, but it's better than nothing.

I do.
I live in Philadelphia, so they don't show all of the Spurs games. I get one approximately once a week. That's why I love the play-offs, they show every game of every series.
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
"I live in Philadelphia, so they don't show all of the Spurs games"
get NBA League Pass, you'll see nearly all the Spurs games in Philadelphia.
-
Re: Questions for Argentinians
Does NBA League Pass show every game? or just the ones on NBA tv and not the TNT or ABC ones?
