How important is 41-0 at home?
I doubt it matters much to Pop. I bet at least a few players really want it, my guess is that Green and Aldridge care the most while Duncan and Diaw care the least (cause Diaw doesn't seem to care much about anything).
As a fan, how much do you care about 41-0? Enough to hypothetically play a guy like Kawhi or Aldridge even if they're only at 80%?
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
not at the risk of playing a player that isn't healthy, however I wouldn't just throw a game away (as Pop has been known to do) either. It is the only record I can see the Spurs caring about besides number of championships.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Most important thing now that the Big Three got the record for most wins as a trio.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Would it make a difference if the warriors went undefeated too?
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
I want it bad... But I doubt coach Pop goes for it.

I would honestly go for it..Pop should have his scheduled rest games on the road, tbh..let's just at least prevent the Warriors from hogging all records this season :lol..

Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
they may lose their first home game in the PO if they go for that... and start an 05 like run :P
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
If... if... IF it gets to that point, I say that Pop throws that last home game against OKC just to mess up the record.
This is the same guy that completely messed up Bowen's streak.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
I don't want to risk injury to get it but I would like to see the Spurs go undefeated at home. Would really like the Spurs to get the record for consecutive home wins if GS drops a home game this season.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
I'm pulling for 41-0 and no B2B losses. Neither feat has ever been accomplished, and both the Spurs and Warriors have made it this far.
But I wouldn't play a player at 80% health to do it.

OKC won't have anything to play for either and I like our scrubs better than theirs.

Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
1 Championship
2 Health
3. 41-0 If this will help them focus, fine. No more nights off like the Charlotte snoozefest after the 1st qtr. Put in the hungry guys if any of the starters start to snooze.
Boban, Simmons, Anderson.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
yea if we both do it, it will be top of Sportscenter Dubs go undefeated during the regular season with a little asterisk at the bottom with small print saying by the way the Spurs did it too. Which is fine because when the Spurs steal game one of WCF and take out the Dubs (in 6 games) it will be all the sweeter even though their regular season record will still be ongoing. :lol Since we won in their house last season and they haven't won in SA since that playoff series 3 years ago.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
It'd be nice, but important is not the word I'd use for it.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Not important without a Championship.
If the Spurs were to win the :lobt2:while going 41-0 at home, then people can say they truly dominated that season.

No, he didn't. Chris Faggot Paul messed that up with his flopping pussy shit. Pop didn't bench Bowen for Udoka until the next year.

You're 100% right. I completely forgot about Chrissy. I would like to hereby retract my previous statement regarding Bruce Bowen and his streak.

Not as important as being 100% healthy and rested for the playoffs. Especially the older players!

They can have all the records as long as the Spurs beat them in the WCF. That would be better than any record.

-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
I agree the ring and health come first but it would be pretty cool. Subtract some points since the dubs are also going to do it though.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
It's very important in that it makes people happy when they go home after a home win.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Not at all. 16 wins after the regular season is the only thing that matters at this point.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
In the playoffs the visiting team could be intimidated by that kind of record. But it's not that important, just a luxery if it were to happen, tbh.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
They could finish 0-5 or 5-0 the rest of the home sched and it wouldn't matter. The only thing that could do some psychological damage is going 40-1 with that 1 L to the Dubs.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
I don't care at all about the home streak. I mean the Spurs are technically 2nd alltime in home winning streaks despite dropping 2 of 3 home games to the Clippers in between last year in the playoffs.

You know... I guess if the Spurs go undefeated at home by beating the Warriors twice here, and then manage to steal Game 1 at Golden State? It might be in the Warrior's heads that they can't win in SA. Might.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Better question is would you sacrifice the Spurs 41-0 if it meant beating GSW at Oracle and breaking their home streak?

Watch. Spurs take the only road win in Goldenstate and Warriors take the only road game in San Antonio.

Nice, but not important. HEALTH is the most important. Bubble wrap your playoff rotation until the end of the season.

Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
IMO, it's really important. Last year they didn't protect home in the playoffs and it cost them. I have no doubt this team can steal one at Oracle, and if they protect home court then they won't have to go over there for Game 7.
41-0 at home will spark a fire under the fans as well, they'll be as loud as ever.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
It isn't now. Going undefeated at home during the playoffs is going to be essential.

golden state should have lost at home to Brooklyn back in November... Blatant foul by bogut on Lopez's buzz-beater in a tie game. No call, went to OT, and warriors won... They shouldn't even be in the running for a perfect home record. So honestly, as much as I've always thought 41-0 would be the shit (still want a perfect RRT, too)... I'd rather hand gsw the L at home and ruin it for those idiots. I'll take both tho, and 6.

Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
With two teams in the west that are this good, the one that doesn't win the title is going to be regarded as really underachieving. In other words, I can't imagine feeling good about 41-0 if the Spurs lose in the WCF.
-

True. I don't care about it. What matters is the championship. :lobt2:

Don't care if they lose a game or two at home as long as they don't lose to GS. Show them they can't win in SA.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Out of the five home games left, there aren't any teams on the schedule that are going to beat the Spurs at home. I don't care if GS is 64-7, the Warriors are like the Timberwolves to the Spurs.

If the Spurs get 41-0 and the Warriors don't, that's still a pretty big accomplishment. Losing to a 73-9 or 74-8 Warriors won't really be underachieving. The Spurs will have lost to the team with literally the best record in NBA history. But... the Warriors will probably get 41-0 too so I don't think that's worth chasing. If the Spurs were the only ones going for the record, that might be a different story.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Doesn't matter... who cares tbh. Especially after seeing Kawhi and Timmy bang knees like they did last game.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
I'd rather beat the team that broke all the redular season records and get them myself.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Nice to do? Yes. Important? No.
SA could easily do 41-0 if they extended themselves. Howevah, Pop is the coach. There will be experimentation with the roster in last batch of games. Kawhi will now miss some games to hopefully insure good health.
I've seen the spurs lose key players on the last day of the season (Manu in 2011). He was our best player at that point in time. Lesson learned.

Obviously there would be no worthwhile bragging rights associated with it if you don't finish the job, but everybody saying they'd rather have a ring is so pointless... Every single Spurs fan in the world would rather have a ring. Duh. That's not the hypothetical question being asked. Would I play someone at less than 100% to get it? No way. Would it be a ridiculous bonus to a championship season? Fuck yea.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
An aside: if the Spurs get to 40-0 at home and the Warriors drop a home game along the way (so that the Spurs have a shot at the first 41-0 ever), how much is the cheapest ticket to get in?
For comparison, the cheapest actual seat (not that standing room only crap) I saw on StubHub about an hour before tipoff for the recent Warriors @ Spurs game was $220. If I remember right, game 5 of the 2014 Finals was between $500 and $600.
I'll go with $400 as a rough guess, and I hope to have the chance to see it proved right or wrong.

41-0 should be THE goal. The Spurs already have 5 titles, so "been there done that." The one thing missing from their list of accomplishments is an undefeated record at home. It would be the "cherry on top" for the Spurs dynasty.

Unbeaten at home is the only thing missing from their list of accomplishments? (Other than a 6th ring, right? But that wouldn't really expand their list of accomplishments, would it?)

Sorry. No, it hasn't been done before. The Spurs just tied the best home "start" ever, which was the 95-96 Bulls at 37-0. They lost their 38th home game of the season, and then lost their last home game of the season as well, to finish 39-2 at home.
The 85-86 Celtics went 40-1 at home. A lot of people bitched that they got a lot of friendly calls in Boston. They were probably right.

Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Would going hard in the last 4 home games really increase the chance of injury that much? That seems to be the assumption.

A perfect home record would be fun - but it's not an actual goal. I've got a hunch that a lot of fans see it as a consolation prize, since they don't think the Spurs can actually beat the Warriors without HCA. I still think they have a shot, if the refs call the playoff contact loose, like they always have.

Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
1. A championship and 41-0 are not mutually exclusive. There is far more evidence to suggest teams that got these types of amazing records won championships.
2. Someone will win a championship every season. The odds of doing it are 1-30 now and used to be 1-8. The odds of a perfect home NBA season don't exist yet because it's never been done.
3. If you buy into the rest theory (I buy in to a degree), there are plenty of road games for our guys to rest (which is better because of the toll travel already puts on your body). Rest on the road, play at home (to keep from rust).
4. We are already 37-0. I could understand not going for it if we were like 15-0 or even like 25-0 or something. But we are 4 games away.
I agree it shouldn't be the main goal or the focus, but if you're Pop or the guys, don't do something to intentionally avoid it.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Just a thought. What if Pop and Steve got together and rested players on their road game to the other's home court? Both go 41-0.
Now that would be a good laugh at the former commissioner. (Refuse to call his name)
Do you think Adam Silver would have the balls to fine them both?
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
LOL... Sean talking about how Pop is likely to treat the GS game like any other B2B, and only think about how to rest guys to get ready for the playoffs. It would almost be worth the L, just to sit back and watch the epic fucking meltdown if the Dubs go 41-0 and the Spurs don't.
What's the over/under on how many "Fire Pop" threads would get created?

We can just keep Elnono thread going TBH. There will be a few losses b4 the playoffs. POP doesn't care about the record bc we are stuck at 2 and it appears he's still developing guys. If guys want a home record or whatever they have to show up and play. I hope it doesn't come back and bite us in the behind but he's doing these things for a reason.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Some would say the 41-0 at home would put a target on our back for the playoffs thus better to lose one.
Others, for example Bobby Knight when he has some undefeated Indiana teams, said he thinks it can be so good for the confidence that you begin to think and play like you cannot be beaten. Not some arrogant nonsense but genuine confidence showing itself on the floor.
I say they go for it, echoing plenty of road games to rest.
-

I said it earlier, but the one and only benefit would be if the Spurs could put some doubt in the Warriors about their ability to win in the AT&T Center, by winning both of those regular season games. They know how good of a team they are, but the Spurs could still possibly get in their heads about that one thing.
I think the rest of it is meaningless. The Spurs also know that they are a good team, and there isn't another team in the league this year that should be able to win a series against them. If I were Pop, I wouldn't think for a second about 41-0 at home. But I would go all-out against the Warriors at home. And even if the Warriors came out on top, I would make it hurt.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
You don't need a target on your back in the playoffs. :lol
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
In fact you probably don't want to be the refs for the home game we do lose. Lots of scrutinization tbh. We'll get more calls at home if we have a 41-0 record.
-
Re: How important is 41-0 at home?
Tonight's game at Utah was a good example. How many times this year did it look like the Warriors might be about to drop a game on the road, but then won it in the last few minutes? The Spurs could send a message: "That shit might work everywhere else, but not in our house." That's the one and only justification I can see for going 110% at any of the remaining games.
This was always an all-in kind of season, but it sure as hell wasn't all-in for regular season home court record.

Seriously, regular season records and feats mean nothing. They are good for second grade teams who can't contend for the true and only prize: a ring.

I could see that scenario being more of a case in Oracle, though. If we're threatening their 41-0, it's an offensive foul on Leonard. If they're threatening ours... it's an and 1.
