ESPN doesn't pretend anymore who they want/root for in this league..
CROFL.."Nothin' but Steph" tab on their NBA section..Gotta love when corporate media (and who behind them)-- not only in sport-- doesn't give pretense of objectivity any more..:lol..

Youve misidentified corporate greed as proactive. Thats actually a reaction to so many casuals jumping on the steph/GSW bandwagon. Simple lowest common denominator type marketing.

Re: ESPN doesn't pretend anymore who they want/root for in this league..
Why are spursfan mad of this? Espn is a businnes thats milking its biggest nba cash cow.
Would do the same thing :lol

Re: ESPN doesn't pretend anymore who they want/root for in this league..
They did the same thing with Miami.

Re: ESPN doesn't pretend anymore who they want/root for in this league..
Who cares? Hopefully they can update it with a WCF loss piece.

just pointing it out..i thought they would be less vulgar with it :lol
but at least, folks can't cry tin-foil conspiracist whenever someone calls out their bias should the Warriors get beneficial treatment and the network put the work to sweep it under the rug..wouldn't be surprised if directives to Jeff Van Gundy to stop talking about moving screens/Kawhi ref disrepect have already been issued :lol.

After the WCF they'll have to change it to "Nuthin' For Steph":ihit

This is what is actually bothersome. Worst case, you want the commentators to call out the refs.

If the Spurs beat the Warriors, they can just insist on the Warriors errors or introduce a "they beat themselves" narrative, discuss how the Warriors can come back from that, talk about Steph, etc.
At least that seemed to be the case when Lebron had playoffs losses.

Re: ESPN doesn't pretend anymore who they want/root for in this league..
Used to be the Heat Check or something. Not at all surprised. I say power to them. Talking down the ratings in 2007 didn't do their parent company any good, so hopefully they have a backup plan if the Spurs manage to get past the Dubs.

ESPN doesn't exist to be balanced, they exist to make money. They know exactly what they're doing. Pandering works.

Why? Is it going to help them win another championship? Spurs have never had that crap and they have been doing pretty well the past 20 years or so.

Re: ESPN doesn't pretend anymore who they want/root for in this league..
So they're marketing the 2 time reigning MVP, champ and 73 game winner.
The fiends.

Sports fans are a captive audience. They don't give a shit about clicks from you and me, because they get them no matter what. It's all the casual fans who start tuning in that are their cash cow, and those people only follow the flavor of the month.

You would think that back to back DPOY would trump all of that.

Re: ESPN doesn't pretend anymore who they want/root for in this league..
They crawled all up Tiger Woods' ass, too. And Ronda Rousey's. It doesn't seem to be helping those two very much. As long as the league doesn't put them down on the court with whistles, I don't give a rat's ass who ESPN roots for.

Who says ESPN is objective? Their supreme financial interests are readily apparent.

I think it was after the first Cleveland game this year. I'll try and find it. In essence the reporter asks LBJ about how much Kawhi has improved since he's come into the league, and LeBron's answer is to list off all these players who improved year by year including himself, Tim Duncan (I think) etc. The gist of it is everyone improves, and there's no reason to discuss Kawhi. It's dismissive to the tenth degree and also transparent and petty. And of course the Spurs had just won and Kawhi was his primary defender so the reporter's question was perfectly valid.:lol

Here it is. The Kawhi question is at 1:47.

Perhaps its not quite as bad as I remembered it. But the gist really is that Kawhi's improvement is nothing special.

I'm not sure how relevant that comment is. Me watching Spurs games doesn't help them win championships, but I watch every game. Me watching the championship videos doesn't help them win, but I've watched all 5 of them.
The Spurs are part of the NATIONAL Basketball Association. When they do something noteworthy, it should be given proper coverage by the NATIONAL media. Who cares if it helps the Spurs win another title. (Again, I'm not sure that comment makes sense in this context.)

You see it happen with new Spurs players getting the "what's it like playing with three hall of famers like Tony, Tim, Manu?" or "How is it different (better in SA) versus playing with that losing team you came from?"
Now I know they don't say it REALLY like that, but it has that connotation. It reminds me of the response Tim gave in regards to Kobe in his last game against him, the media was looking for some sort of complimentary sound bite and Tim wasn't having it.

1.) Me watching the game on DVR about 30 minutes in to skip through timeouts. Wearing Spurs gear. Wearing white gear on away games and black gear on home games. etc. etc. ABSOLUTELY helps them win.
2.) ESPN doesn't owe the Spurs or any other team anything. They are just out to make a buck. Do you really think they care who is hot right now? No, they care about who everyone else thinks is hot.

ESPN (Disney) wants GS and LeBron. it's no secret. What they would also like
to have is at least one woman coach and a GLBT on each team.
