Did SlowMo's D on Durant turn any of you Kyle haters heads
Pop played him more time cause his length was disrupting Durant's shot. Never mind his scoring, but one of his main knocks coming out of college was his speed and inability to play d. Very encouraging.

Durant should be glad that after this series he will only have to deal with Kyle's D in practice.

Re: Did SlowMo's D on Durant turn any of you Kyle haters heads
Nope. Kyle has no business in NBA. Unbelievable that he's still with team.

no- one really nice game - makes me know I'm correct about how big of a loser durant is.

What about Kyle getting worked by waiters tho..
-
Re: Did SlowMo's D on Durant turn any of you Kyle haters heads
They should.
I've said before his defense will be key to guard Livingston post-ups instead of Patty/Manu...Tonight he was really good vs OKC... :tu

Got torched by Dion Butters.
He's really bad.

Kyle plays damn good D. He has all year.
And yes...that was a very big surprise to me ;)

Re: Did SlowMo's D on Durant turn any of you Kyle haters heads
It'll take a lot more games to convince me but this is a good start. Anderson still has no offense other than low percentage long fade-away 2's. His defense on Durant was surprisingly decent though.

Anderson is the future of the spurs. I expect him to contribute as much as George Hill has to Indiana
-
Re: Did SlowMo's D on Durant turn any of you Kyle haters heads
The first time he came into the game, he looked like a deer in the headlights. I'm assuming that's why Pop pulled him after something like 37 seconds. When he got in the second time, the Thunder were shell-shocked. I don't want to take anything away from him - he played some good D. I'm not sure anyone should adopt a whole new outlook based on one game though. As long as he's solid on defense, I'm sure he'll get his share of minutes, but defending Durant for a 7 game series is a tall order. I hope he can keep it up.

Re: Did SlowMo's D on Durant turn any of you Kyle haters heads
He played great defense on Durant tonight. There was one possession that his defense was lock down on Durant, like everything was so good with moving his feet, amount of space he gave him and contesting the shot. Textbook defense. I always thought his defense wasn’t as bad going back to his rookie season as his length helps him a lot. He needs to work on that floater though, that five foot floater was flatter than the only Asian girl I banged tits, it was terrible (Not the tits, the floater :lol) This offseason he needs to put some work in with his offensive game. If he does that he will be a solid off the bench player for the Spurs.

Re: Did SlowMo's D on Durant turn any of you Kyle haters heads
Nah the first quarter he was benched quickly but it was bc matchups. As soon as Durant checked back in to close the Q, Pop wanted Danny back in the game to guard him. It made perfect sense as he's the experienced guy and Kawhi had two early quick fouls. In the second quarter Pop felt comfortable with a lineup of Kyle guarding Durant and Danny on Russ for a while, then Kawhi. Kyle held his own, and LMA and Kawhi stayed hot so OKC deficit continued or got worse. You have to give credit where it's due GSH.
Had he stunk it up you and others would for sure mention it, so you can't take that away from him.

I'm on major antihistamines and cough stuff, so maybe I missed something. So help me understand. Pop first put in Anderson when Kawhi picked up his second foul. Durant was out, but Westbrook was in. Then, 37 seconds later, Pop pulled Kyle. Yeah, Durant came into the game, but Westbrook left at the same time. And you're saying it was because of matchups? Isn't Kyle on Durant the matchup everyone is crowing about? So does Durant get easier for Kyle to guard when Westbrook is in at the same time? If Pop was fine with Anderson guarding Durant when Green was guarding Westbrook, whey wouldn't he be fine with Anderson guarding Durant with Patty guarding Cameron Payne? I just don't get what you're saying.
Look, I thought I gave Kyle credit for playing good D, both here and in the game thread. I was just responding to the OP suggesting that people totally change their opinion of a player based on one game. Maybe it's the drugs, but I still think that makes sense. Even you have to admit that defending a guy in the middle of an avalanche, when he's not having a good night, probably doesn't tell you much. If Durant torches Kyle in the next game, it won't mean Kyle sucks - Durant is one of the best scorers in the league. I think that for people to act like Kyle Anderson single-handedly shut down Kevin Durant is a bit over the top. Especially if the expectation is that he's likely to do it for a whole series. If he does that, then he really has developed into one of the best defenders in the league.

Lol. It's easy and I think you can tell. Manu was in the game at the time. It basically was Manu's time to run the offense so he's not getting benched. You sub in the guy you want on Durant to let Manu be and deal with Waiters. It's the first time Kyle defends a premier scorer in the playoffs, having faced him only once in the RS in his life, and you can hardly say a game is over in the first Q even if you got a lead early. That's the careful reluctant Pop you know.
Closing that Q though, bam bam over 40 pts, can't recall but there was fouling 3 pt shooters and Danny was hot, so now you start the 2nd Q and it's a wider margin so Pop felt he could risk it, just play the playoff newbie in a short leash. The game is not over in the 2nd Q either but at that point you have a 20 pt margin or so and you can always use the short leash and pull him if you need to. If you are the coach, you just want to buy a few minutes for Kawhi with the foul trouble.
But Kyle came in and he didn't let up defensively. When he played, what was already a large lead got bigger so Pop continued to let him in the game subbing Kawhi for Danny, and finally Manu never got in the game to close out the half bc it was such an avalanche. You can be sure the leash would have been short had he not been playing his role bc Manu was ready.
I think Kyle has improved defensively all season, personally. I don't need this game to see his improvement, it is just a continuation of his development. He's hardly a finished product.

As long as Kyle makes a single mistake in a game or the opposing team scores a basket while he's on the court, he will not change the mind of those that dislike him. 90 percent of them decided that he was a poor NBA talent when they heard his nickname.

Re: Did SlowMo's D on Durant turn any of you Kyle haters heads
Kyle played great D on Durant. Was he perfect, no but who is?. Even Kawhi gets beat off the dribble a few times a game.
There was one play where even though Durnat hit the shot, Kyles D on that possession was fantastic. His length really makes up for his lack of quickness against certain guys.

Re: Did SlowMo's D on Durant turn any of you Kyle haters heads
When Kyle Anderson develops his jump shot a little more he's going to be a 6th man of the year candidate.
His defense was spectacular last night.

I've said from the beginning that I think Anderson will develop into a solid, consistent role player. Not a star, but a valuable contributor. And I've never wavered from that.
So, yeah, I get a little sick of player-fans putting words in my mouth, or getting twisted when I mention the bad along with the good. In another thread I questioned whether Pop would give him significant minutes in the playoffs - because I think Pop favors tested veterans in the post-season. That got turned into the idea that I don't think Anderson is good enough to play in the playoffs.
Player fans are a freaking cancer most of the time, because they take any criticism of their favorites personally. Discussions turn into arguments. My takes may be wrong - I don't have any problem with that. But damn I get tired of people who see players as all black or all white. (I hope that wasn't a racial micro-aggression.)

Yeah, you can see he lacks a bit of experience and routine. He's needs a bit of polish and a better shot, but the way he's been playing makes it difficult to criticize his attitude or even potential.

The plan at least for this game was to have Kawhi shadow Russ and Green shadow KD, with Manu and Anderson getting their time in between. When Kawhi picked up his second foul, Pop put Anderson into the game. Donovan countered by bringing in KD. Since Green was KD's shadow, he came back in. However, Pop pretty much abandoned that strategy once it became clear Durant and Westbrook were pretty much done for the game. I dunno if we'll see that continue for the series, but that substitution made sense.
I don't think Anderson should ever be the primary defender of Durant in this series. KD is just too good of a scorer unless he's knocked out of rhythm. I will say though, that my confidence in Anderson's ability to D up on switches is pretty high.

I'm really worried if he is REALLY going to be in the playoff rotation.
I don't think it's sustainable but fortunately for him and Pop we have faced almost zero adversity or quality opposition so far.

He did a solid job on KD when Leonard got in foul trouble. He'll have success if Durant decides to settle for 3s and pull ups tbh. Nice to know he can provide stopgap minutes if Kawhi is in foul trouble or needs a few mins of rest.

Why in the hell was Leonard in foul trouble? Not a good sign for an opening home game for the DPOY. And I think game two is gonna be called even tighter.

As I have said in other threads, I expect us to get called for phantom fouls in the first game in OKC. They will get their home cooking. I'm just thrilled that LMA's shot was so good last night that we could have Kawhi disappear for a while and not lose anything offensively.

I actually thought the refs were fair yesterday, Kawhi just commited unnecessary fouls. They let us get away with a lot of contact near the rim, that's something we haven't seen ever against Reflahoma

No doubt about it. He was locked in on Durant. Hand in face and kept the feet moving.
Not sure if it was allowed because of time expiring but the block after helping out on D to close the quarter was spectacular.
This guy is part of the Spurs future. Glad Pop showing more faith in him than some fans.

6MOY is awarded by taking all the non-starters in the league and sorting by PPG.

As I see it the 6th man is a universal type of player that provide a boost from the bench and anchors the 2nd unit. As such I would want it to be a good aggressive scorer but also a strong defender - you don't want your D to drop off just because of what is usually your first sub.
Now I understand that the league may not put a premium on D when awarding the sixth man award, but to me a good scorer with a solid defence is the definition of what I - and hopefully most coaches - would want as skills for that role.

Kyle because of his length is a good defender with the kind of defense the Spurs play.
He also has very quick hands that cause a lot of deflections and steals.
He's going to get better and exposure to playoff basketball is going to pay dividends.

Apparently some of us do. In addition, I love his patience. Kyle is the only young player since Kawhi that avoids shooting out of his hot spots. Usually if you see Kyle taking a shot from a bad spot, it's because there's a clock involved.
It's funny that the same people that hate Tony Parker for shooting too much hate Kyle for not shooting enough.

After 2 seasons, I don't think Kyle gets the credit he deserves. His foot work is very good on defense. Playing in the Spurs system, he doesn't have to be the fastest player on the court. Spurs get back on defense better than any other team in the NBA. With his long legs and wide wingspan, Kyle is a good defender.

And his hand eye coordination, and hand speed, for steals is great. I think what makes him slow is his lankiness. Hes like a giraffe, looks slow but not.
