Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
After SuperKwa sank the game icing fts I knew the only way we could not win was to gift them some idiotic foul or even give the semblance of a foul thus enter ThundeRef.
Did anyone else think West, altho he did not foul Westchuck, did give a slight opening for ThundeRef to burn the Spurs?
Westchuck kicks his leg out, plus West did kind of hit his hand on the follow thru.
Point being there was NO reason to jump anywhere near Westchuck on the final shot.
It's a big LOL now, but at the time did anyone else go no....no...NO!

Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
I have no idea why Pop didn't have all 5 players within the 3 point lane. Like WTF Pop.

Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
He actually got fouled on that play. Westbrook kicked his shin for fucks sake. :lmao
-
Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
I was yes yes yes because Westbrook instead of Durant was shooting.

"Don't get anywhere close to them." He gets close to them.

Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
If it was a 3 pt game they would've fucked us didn't matter since it was 4.

Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
Westbrook sold out just to try to draw contact. His odds of actually hitting that shot while contorting enough to try to get a whistle are one in a thousand.
-
Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
tbh he just need to have the whistle
Then he will hit 2 FT and the 3rd he missed on purpose, grabbed his own rebound and dunk it in

Jamal Crawford disagrees.

That could happen.
With just 2.7 seconds left, and OKC out of timeouts, being anywhere near that shot was stupid. It was unnecessary. The game is won, as long as you don't foul them. But, once again, that's something Pop should have gone over during the timeout. Every player on the team should have known how to handle that possession, so that it was automatic.
-
Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
No. After that crazy sequence at the end of game 2, no way they give Westbrook a kick out foul.

No westbrook kicked out. If anything flop rule should come into play

Reminded me of the shot he took in Game 6, WCF 2014.

I think better play there is to go for lob at basket and very quick score and foul. Spurs are not fouling a three point shooter (hands up, no contesting). And if going for four point play, why isn't Durant the guy shooting?
-
Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
Less than 3 seconds, up by 4. Don't even move, just stand still and let them shoot the ball. Time expires either way and there is no chance at some bullshit foul.

Still doesn't change the fact that West had no reason to be out there defending that - especially leaving his feet. Nothing good could come of it. Only bad things = stay away from it. We've already seen that getting a bad-call confession from the league doesn't change the outcome. Don't give them the opportunity. And, yeah, it's still on the coaching staff for not having that discussion in the timeout.

Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
Definitely a stupid play. A four point play is the only way OKC would've won. Even running out, had Adams held that screen and sold contract, it could've been a four point play with Westbrook on the three and Adams on the FT.
-
Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
Had it been a three point game, I'd want the contest. Teams make the mistake of not contesting and altering the shot when it counts, like Ginobili did with Fisher in 04, imo.

Do we know that?
2006 Pop said "Do not foul the shooter" then GNob went rouge.

Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
I don't think west was even close. Russ had to really over exaggerate his motions to the point it was laughable. West gave him enough space.

To a fair ref, sure easy non call.
The point is we are talking ThundeRef, with the game on the line to boot. Nothing to be gained by a D stop.
West jumps towards Westchuck and their hand connects after the shot.
And as Spurtacular stated
Quote:

I also thought during the play as West went around Adams contact, why even bother?! It just gives ThundeRef a potential excuse.
We saw how badly ThundeRef f'd us in 2012. So we know what they are capable of.

If you don't trust the refs, you might risk some defensive three seconds or other BS call.
Like the old college call where the refs would force a team to stop playing zone and come out to defend the perimeter (failing to "force the action" I think they called it).
The key in that situation is not so much to pack it in, but rather to follow two simple rules --- (1) stay at least five feet from your man, (2) do not leave your feet (jump) -- or even raise your arms -- under any circumstances.
-
Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
Are they still giving fines for flopping? If so, how could that possibly not qualify?

Yeah, I saw that. I was screaming "Run away" like Monty Python's Arthurian knights. It wasn't remotely a foul, but why even take the risk with a 4 point lead?

The .4 game is still too fresh. Manu's foul on Dirk. That had the makings of one of those epic losses, when it looked like an epic win was in the bag. I like West, but I was sick watching him get off his feet to guard a 3P shot there.

Re: Did you think West gave ThundeRef a chance on the final shot?
I dunno, West didn't even seem to be that close. You don't want to risk the foul but West should at least put some pressure out there. Westbrook just kicks out so he gets a sliver of contact. I don't think it was too big of a deal. Refs are not going to call that 10/10 times. Even if it's a real foul (Fisher's foul on Barry), there's a high chance they won't call it.
