Yes, he's been underrated but there's a cost to using up cap space and not having the cost controlled rookie deal under the $94 million cap.
Also, if he can net the 12th pick it makes me wonder what people would value Green at. Signed for three more years at below market price and two elite skills (dribbling is not one of them) at a shallow position.
His defense is damn good. What's the other elite skill?

THIS
Hill is mediocre at best

Green is 26th in NBA history in 3pt% and top 10 among active players. I'd call that elite.

Bud did us a solid last year with Splitter, he got us again tbh

I guess the stats bear it out. It just doesn't feel elite.

Re: George Hill Traded to the Jazz
Pretty decent trade for Utah, in the sense that Hill is a playable player, as opposed to Shelvin Mack or Trey Burke..they desperately need a legit backup PG, though, that team doesn't have any creators..

whatever happened to trey burke?

Probably about the same thing. In fact, I'm almost certain the Spurs could get 12 for Green straight up.
They're both 3 and D types, around the same age. The only differences are, Hill is a combo guard, Green is a wing and the former adds a dash of secondary ball handling.

It's really hard to see why did they do it, TBH.
No, it isn't.
Burke is all but guaranteed to be traded, Mack and Neto are third point guards (Mack is actually a combo guard), Exum is coming off of a serious injury and also a combo guard.
Hill is a perfect fit, on a young team that already has a cadre (Hayward, Hood, Burks, Exum) of wings and guards who provide varying degrees of ball handling/play making.
Hood is a small forward, he just primarily plays shooting guard because it allows for them to play their best players the most minutes together, similar to Middleton.
Hayward isn't going anywhere. It'll be Burke and probably eventually Burks, who'll go.

Re: George Hill Traded to the Jazz
Utah is probably a playoff team if they can acquire even just one single decent, legit PG IMO..even a mediocre, aging player like Jose Calderon would help, they just need a player that can get them into their offense and make open jump shots..

When he goes cold, he doesn't feel elite at all. In a way, it would be great if he could be 40% every game instead of 6/6 in some and 0/6 in others. He's had 21 games with at least 5 attempts and 1 or less makes. Mills' had 9. Kawhi's had 2. Manu's had 34 albeit in many more years.
Meanwhile Green's hit at least five threes 42 times, which blows everyone else out of the water. Icy - Hot at its finest.

Bill Neff, George Hill's agent, was candid about his client's love for the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday afternoon. He was drafted by the Spurs. And even if he was traded to the Indiana Pacers from San Antonio, his intent a few years ago was to go back in free agency. He would've if the Spurs had more salary cap space.

Exum/Burks returning from injury should help & Hood showed he can run the offense in spot minutes ala Hayward.

I agree 100% with your comments. It makes me wonder if he would even be on a roster if it wasn't for his defense. I imagine there are many basketball players that are streaky like Green but are so inconsistent that they never make it.

Re: George Hill Traded to the Jazz
So who is better Jeff Teague or George Hill? If you are Utah who do you prefer for your #12?

Nah. Green's not any more streaky than Bowen. He's just a volume shooter, and most Spurs aren't when they're missing threes.

Lord... what the hell happened to Exum, eh?
Super bust that know one gives two shits about.

Yes, I'm aware... I was referring more to the lack of attention to his place in the draft and the bustyness he's emitting in comparison.

I'm not sure your point. My point was that I think there are plenty of players that can shoot like Green. That is if they're hot, they can have games where they go 4/5. But on the flip side, they go 1/5. But because Green can play D, he's on the court way more.

Umm, didn't they just acquire that player in Hill? His playmaking skills aren't that great but he's improved a lot at running a NBA offense.
I really don't like this trade for Indiana if they are going run Teague at PG and Ellis at SG. That is a defensive disaster waiting to happen, IMO.

I don't believe Hill can efficiently and consistently run an offense..he has improved, sure, but he's still far from a natural PG..his ball-handling and passing skills are very underwhelming for an NBA PG IMO..
Indiana used him as an off-guard for most of the season, while running Ellis at PG..Hill can certainly play some minutes at PG at an effective level, but I can't imagine a successful offense with Hill as the primary PG/facilitator..

Presuming they traded for the pick to use it and not necessarily as part of another transaction, I think Baldwin would be great for them, he can back up Shroeder and also play next to him as he's big and long enough. They may also look at Richardson or D. Murray, of course, but then again they're Atlanta and they're shitty at drafting.
