Indiana used him as an off-guard for most of the season, while running Ellis at PG..Hill can certainly play some minutes at PG at an effective level, but I can't imagine a successful offense with Hill as the primary PG/facilitator..
The season prior he was the primary ball handler when he returned from injury and posted career high's across the board. Any backcourt mate that has Ellis beside him is going to be stifled statistically since he's so ball-dominant (and inefficient). They have enough players that can be secondary playmakers/ball handlers (ala Exum, Burks and Hayward) that he won't be burdened with being the full-time PG.
Plus, he can actually play well off-ball and also is effective in catch-and-shot situations which is something they sorely lacked from nearly all (minus Hood) their other perimeter players. He's a huge, huge upgrade over Mack (who I like as a 3rd PG), Burke (bust) and Neto (too unathletic), while allowing them to reassess their PG situation next summer.
