Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
What's the over/under on how many times we'll see/hear/read that the Spurs "did it again" by drafting yet another diamond in the rough ... he'll be a great fit ... prototypical Spur ... outstanding value pick ... was projected as a lottery pick ... how do Pop and RC do it?

Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
Lot out of people on here want Thon Maker. Pretty sure he's at least 21, and could be as old as 24. I'll pass.
-
Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
The fuck is it with people not knowing their own age?
:lol a 24-year-old man getting praise for dominating high-school kids. Even worse than the Jordan Shipley hype.

That means he could have been a 23 year old high schooler.

Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
Thon could have made it to the NBA even being 23 because of his potential. Lying won't get you nowhere. Will be interesting to see if the allegations were true.

Being that dominant over people the same age as you is worth a lot more money than dominating people five years younger than you. Lying could have gotten him a shitload more money. If he's a decent player, his contract will be the same whether he lies or not.

Why? I said this in another thread, but there are questions about Ibaka and Biyombo's age. Being born in the Sudan or the Congo isn't like being born into a country like America where there are stringent laws about reporting population. Maker relocated to Australia when he was 5, or supposedly 5, to escape civil war. That is the first documentation of his age. He probably lived a portion of his life thinking he is younger than he actually is. It's not like he was thinking he was going to play in the NBA when he escaped war torn Sudan.

If he's any good, this exactly the kind of scenario I asked about in another draft thread about why great college players don't slide in the draft like they do in the NFL. If "Thon" is a great talent, then he could be the Spurs' equivalent of drafting a Randy Moss or Warren Sapp late in the 1st round.

Thon is getting massively overrated. He doesn't even look good in highlight vids for god's sake. People are acting like this is the 50s.

Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
Malik Beasley certainly seems a target. If Mills is the casualty, this is the sort of player you go for.

He's not getting three by himself, apparently. If so, the deal would be done already.

Why would it be done already? Any rumors have the Celtics discussing him or Okafor.

Jonathan Givony @DraftExpress
Market for Nerlens Noel seems to be far overstated by some. More likely he fetches a late lottery pick in a trade as opposed to top-5 pick.

sixers want scoring and Green is a better talent now then anyone 1-10 in the draft..

While I can understand that argument as to why the Sixers would want him and even why a guy like Noel would be available for Green, I don't think anyone would consider Danny a better talent than Simmons (even if I think he's going to bust).

I mean, Hawks still want to give up their 12th pick (unless something has changed from yesterday). Celtics have a ton of picks too. Who knows what Philly is planning to do but they're active.

Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
I hope Danny Green is not traded. Very little chance they get fair value for him, and dumping him one season after that huge discount would be awful. At least give him two seasons before dumping. His contact is so cheap compared to value that I would turn down 12 without blinking.
-
Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
If we get durant, I'd like to keep green. Bruce bowen off the bench.
-
Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
These teams stockpiled on draft picks in hopes of cashing them in a trade for an all-star. That didn't work and so now they are sweating bc they actually have to draft someone.

Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
Danny's inability to dribble and to create is more of a liability than is defense can make up for.

But they all have the potential to be better than Green and they are younger, so why not gamble on the lottery. If one of those teams needed a 3-D and had enough talent at other positions, it's conceivable they might make that trade, but we're talking about teams that are in the bottom part of the lottery.

Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
Mock draft 10.0 on ESPN has us taking Isaiah cousins. I think this would be a good pick but in the second round. I mentioned him in the draft thread. This guy is a gym rat. He is a combo guard and a really good defender. Not my first selection but he is a for year player and would be ready to play day one.
-
Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
Thad Young to the Pacers for #20 and a future 2nd pick.
-
Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
Wonder where the hawks 12 ends up.
-
Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
What about Domantas Sabonis? Is he better than that Giminski guy from Wisconsin who just tiptoed his was through his rookie season? Cowherd was mildly promoting Sabonis as a good pick today.

I can see that side of things. But if he sucks next season, they might not be able to get the same in return. But I'd only want him traded now if 1) they need to make room for Durant or 2) they've identified a draft pick that can have a quick impact.

Zipser is a guy I thought the Spurs would be interested in a few months ago. Thought he would be gone by the time we pick though.
-
Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
He played pretty well at the last Eurobasket tournament but I don't think that drafting another SF makes much sense given the bigger needs at other positions. Especially with Bertans and maybe even Hanga coming over.

Not at all. It screams that they see a future with Kanter/Adams and don't want to spend money on Ibaka as well esp after a down year.
They know they need cheap talent to build that roster and trading a older player like Ibaka for a lottery pick is the way.

Yeah it does. It also screams that OKC are cheap bastards and will continue to dilute their roster.
-
Re: ***Official 2016 NBA Draft Thread***
Even though Ibaka seems to make every shot he takes when he plays the Spurs, I don't think he's "all that." And apparently neither does OKC. Still, surprising to see this.
