Breaking News: Bulls GM John Paxson announced that the team has traded center Eddy Curry to the New York Knicks. Details of the trade will be posted as soon as they become available.

Eddy Curry should know Monday how badly Isiah Thomas wants him.
Thomas, president of the Knicks, has been trying to find a way to land Curry for at least a year. He is Curry's only suitor but apparently is having second thoughts about pulling off a sign-and-trade for the Bulls' 6-foot-11-inch center.
As of Sunday night, negotiations between the Knicks and Bulls were stalled, according to a source.
Bulls general manager John Paxson balked at Thomas' initial offer to send Tim Thomas and Michael Sweetney and wants forward David Lee or Trevor Ariza, the source said.
Thomas, who took Jamal Crawford off the Bulls' hands in a sign-and-trade last summer, is said to be unwilling to meet Paxson's demand but offered to include first- and second-round draft picks.
Curry has until 11:59 p.m. Monday to accept the Bulls' one-year qualifying offer, but team officials have said they don't mind extending the deadline. If the Bulls and Knicks are close to a deal, that will happen.
The Bulls could include Eric Piatkowski or Jannero Pargo in the deal.
The Knicks need better outside shooting, and Piatkowski could fill the bill. Pargo's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Pargo would sign the Bulls' qualifying offer Monday unless he fits in a sign-and-trade.
If and when Curry accepts the qualifying offer, expect a dramatic chain of events, starting with his refusal to undergo a genetic test that could help determine the extent of his heart condition.
Paxson did not respond to messages over the weekend but has said he will comment Monday.

Oct. 4, 2005 - The Chicago Bulls dealt center Eddy Curry to the New York Knicks on Monday, ending a contentious negotiation in which the team insisted the restricted free agent take a DNA test over a heart problem.
In making the announcement, an obviously frustrated Bulls general manager John Paxson did not specify what the Bulls got in return and he did not field questions.
"We will have an announcement tomorrow morning," Bulls public relations director Sebrina Brewster said Monday night. "All we can say right now is we traded Eddy to the Knicks."
The Knicks did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
The Bulls had insisted that Curry take a DNA test to determine whether he's susceptible to a potentially fatal heart problem. Curry, who missed the final 13 games of the regular season and the playoffs after experiencing an irregular heartbeat, balked, saying it violated his privacy.
"I would never put a player on the floor in a Chicago Bulls uniform if I didn't do everything in my power to find out all the information that was available," Paxson said. "You can debate genetic testing 'til you're blue in the face. But from what I know, from what I've learned over the last six months, that test could have helped us determine the best course of action."
Curry, drafted right out of high school, averaged a career-high 16.1 points in his fourth NBA season.
The standoff stemmed from a benign arrhythmia that caused Curry to miss the final 13 games of the regular season and the playoffs.
Several prominent cardiologists cleared Curry to play, but Barry Maron, a world-renowned specialist in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, suggested the DNA test.
Paxson has said he understands the privacy issues involved but insisted the Bulls do not have an ulterior motive; they simply do not want a situation similar to those of former Boston Celtics guard Reggie Lewis or Loyola Marymount star Hank Gathers players with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who collapsed and died.
I think David Lee just became eligible to be traded today.

They can become unrestricted, or if both parties agree they can extend the negotiation period.

Antonio Davis was a big part of their locker room last year.
Tim Thomas is ok. Sweetney is big, fat, and useless.

Well Curry refused to take the DNA tests they wanted to give him before signing him. The Bulls really didn't have a lot of choices. Tim Thomas and Antonio Davis are both on the last year of their contracts, so long term, they are a wash. I don't like Sweetney at all, but I wouldn't have wanted Curry for a long-term contract either.

Dunno. Davis is more serviceable than what NY has.
I guess that the Knicks really wanted Curry because this is still risky for them.
I also never realized that Tim Thomas was such a bad rebounder -- even Bowen averaged more rebounds than him last season.

Chicago also sent veteran center Antonio Davis to the Knicks, who traded away forwards Tim Thomas, Michael Sweetney and Jermaine Jackson. Several draft choices also changed hands in the deal, according to an executive in the Eastern Conference who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The trade was expected to be finalized Tuesday.

The general manager started by asking reporters to "let me ramble a minute." After a long pause, he said, "This has been about as uncomfortable and unusual a situation I could ever imagine. We've attempted from Day 1 to do the right thing, and I'm absolutely confident that we have in every way we went about it. And in a lot of ways we've met resistance in trying to gather all the information we feel we need."
About three minutes later, Paxson said, "From a basketball standpoint, I understand what I'm doing. But I have an obligation to this organization and the people I work for to do the right thing. And I did the right thing. That's all I've got to say."
Then, he walked away from the table.
That Curry and the Bulls parted was not shocking, given the tone of the negotiations.
Curry played a major role as the Bulls won 47 games and reached the playoffs for the first time since 1998 -- when Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen led them to their sixth NBA title.
"It's tough," said power forward Tyson Chandler, who re-signed with the Bulls for six years during the offseason. "I'm sad to see him go."
I understand Curry not wanting the DNA test, but that was a very good gesture on the part of the Bulls to offer 50 years of that much compensation if he failed it.Quote:

Call me crazy, but I like this move for the Knicks. They're never getting out of cap hell, and this is a shot they can't pass up for an impact bigman. It's risky as hell, but the only other way they'll luck into a bigman with that ind of talent is through the draft, an even bigger crapshoot than the Curry deal.
Curry, Jerome James, Jamal Crawford, and Marburry? Larry Brown just had an aneurism. :lol

They were offering him 20 million dollars for the rest of his life if he didn't pass, and he turned it down.
Guess he knew he couldn't pass, but that Zeke would pay him 5 times that anyway.
Couple questions. Rumor is NY will release Davis and he will resign with the bulls by the end of the month. I thought there was something just put in the new CBA about a length of time that needed to pass before a team could resign a player they traded. Another thought is that Chandler is more suited for the PF role. He is more in the mold of a Duncan or O'neal. I believe Chicago will be looking for a strong center to stand with Chandler. And next year they will have roughly 20 mil. Wallace will probably resign with Detroit. So other than a trade, it is looking like Wright and Mohammed are the two strongest possibilities and I am pretty sure we will lose a bidding war with a team who is in desperate need of a center and has 20 mil to blow. This makes me a little worried. Other thoughts?

Curry signed a six-year, $55 million contract with the Knicks following contentious negotiations with the Bulls over the summer.

What's everyone worried about his heart problems for? Geez, Marbury cleared this ALL up yesterday.

I can understand Isiah wanting a reasonable back-up plan if Big Snacks went back on the Twinkies, but a guy with work ethic issues plus a bad ticker? None of the talent the Bulls got is much to write home about but it gives them cap space plus some picks that they could trade up with, package somehow, or just plain draft with.
Larry Brown is a great coach but he's going to need about 50 gallons of super glue and a few miles of duct tape to hold this team together.
With Curry in the lineup the Knicks are sure to get better. Heart problems? All of the Knick players have heart.
I see that Curry simply cannot wait to get playing again, he should be at training camp by Thursday.

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The New York Knicks were waiting for Eddy Curry to report to training camp amid suspense about medical tests into the irregular heartbeat that prompted Chicago to trade him this week.
Knicks president Isiah Thomas and coach Larry Brown had hoped Curry would make it to the College of Charleston on Wednesday, but by late afternoon, team spokesman Jonathan Supranowitz said Curry likely would not work out until Thursday. Before then, the team will not reveal anything about the 22-year-old's health status.
"My gut feeling is that we probably won't have an update today," Supranowitz said.
Along with Curry, Chicago traded veteran forward Antonio Davis in the deal the NBA approved Tuesday. The Knicks sent forwards Tim Thomas, Michael Sweetney and Jermaine Jackson to Chicago. Several draft picks also were involved in the deal.
Curry, the Bulls' leading scorer last season, missed the final 13 games of the regular season and the playoffs after the irregular heartbeat was diagnosed.
Brown had crossed his fingers that Curry would pass his physical and heart tests and join the Knicks.
"I don't know. I was asking Isiah, but we don't know," Brown said. "I hope they can come. When it happens, it happens. It's the second day, so I don't think it's critical."
Thomas promised Tuesday night that doctors examining Curry would find any potential problems. Brown wouldn't speculate about his newest center.
"Hey, I'm a coach. I'm not into that other stuff," he said. "Whatever guys show up here I'm happy about and try to coach them the best I can."
