Not surprising that someone would give him a good offer.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Not sure why Detroit would want Boban and Baynes but whatever.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
That 3rd year is too dangerous for the Spurs' cap future. They won't match.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Damn I was actually looking forward to seeing what Boban could do in his second year in our system, and with more playing time. Bummer.

Duncan
Borrousis
Summer League (Auguste, Ibeh)
Milutinov
Just hope we don't go with a small five like Robinson or Stokes. We need balance and size.
We really need to know Duncan's decision.

Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Drummond, Boban and Baynes. Are they nuts?
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
We get Dedmon for less! :ihit
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Detroit watches every game and evaluates every player and they keep seeing value in our bigs.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
At least he'll torch us twice a year instead of more :depressed
Isn't he restricted though?

Yes, he is restricted, but we won't match the offer. Besides, it looks like we have already moved on to... Dedmon.

Hate to see Boban go, but I don't know how effective he would have been long term. I like what I saw from Denmon in summer league so far, he looks really aggressive at center.

Yup. At least we just took a rim protector away from Golden State. Double win tbh

Yeah I'm glad he went east. Guess I'll be watching Detroit games now, I want to see him bully against the east.

I honestly don't know Dedmon from Dead Man. Whose SL team is he on? I guess we'll see him on our team in Vegas... I hope he can help our OLD front court.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
I'll miss the big guy but Dedmon is better moving forward and cheaper.

Dedmon not denmon
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Good for him, but just too damn expensive to match.

God dammit Detroit, stop taking the Spurs' bigs.

They're building.a bigger fucking wall just like van gundy ordered :lol

Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
If Duncan retires this weekend, Spurs can stretch Duncan's contract and match Detroit's offer, right? Since they have three days to match?

Matt Bonner is your new backup center

He'll get a ton of play in the East. Godspeed, Wun Wun.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
I love Boban. Glad he's going to the East. He'll probably dominate in the land where David West can look like a legitimate inside presence.

Because they signed Dedmon instead. :depressed

Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Pop would never ever have trusted Boban.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Sucks. We only have about $6 million in cap left. Time to start chucking off dead weight...like Boban...he had a couple of "Blair" games against B team 2nd stringers. He isn't a fit in this league as a rotation player. The Pistons can keep taking our marginal bigs and over paying them for averages of 10 points and 8 rebounds between the two stiffs.

This.

Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
My god (assuming TIm and Bonner go) we'll have 1 big retained from last season, LMA. :lol
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Spurs need to match if the great Tim GOATcan decides to retire. An average of $7 mill/yr is nothing in today's NBA for a rotation player tbh.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
It'll be interesting to see what the Pistons do, going forward..they just lost Tolliver, so they technically have a slot at the backup 4, but Morris and maybe even Harris are both better suited to play the 4, nowadays..
They experimented with Baynes at the 4 next to Drummond, last year, but seems pretty iffy in today's league..definitely seems like they will be making more moves, though, I don't believe you can play Harris and/or Morris at the 3 full-time, spacing would be atrocious(especially since their backcourt can't shoot, either)..
EDIT: didn't they just sign White American Jon Leuer, too?:lol what a strange roster..
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
I'm almost certain that the Spurs have enough cap room. Also, I'm pretty sure teams can go over the cap to resign players already on their roster.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
As much as I like Boban, he is just too slow to ever be a real rotational big against quality competition. Wish him well and he should thank the Spurs for getting him that contract :lol

Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
At we'll get a first round draft pick for extending a QO.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
DET has crazy depth. Even if weird fits, all the guys (Leuer, Drummond, Morris, Boban, Baynes, etc..) are all good players.
I wish SA could have kept Boban, but I am so happy for that guy. Great guy, really good player and he's good enough to be a rotational player and gives them a ton of versatility to go huge or small.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
I hate to see Boban go, but Dedmond's athletic skills fill our defensive need better. But I will miss rooting for Boban :depressed:depressed:depressed:depressed
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Boban will be a Beast in the East. :ihit
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Nice payday for Boban. Good for him.
Not sure what Detroit are doing though. Perhaps Baynes is on his way.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
It doesn't matter how good Boban is or isn't, if Pop was never going to play him significant minutes.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Good for Boban. He'll be missed.
Now Pop can't take out his frustrations on Boban anymore or bash fans who wanted to see a legit, skilled, unique center actually play.
He'll have to find a new whipping boy to keep on the bench while the team gets eliminated sooner than they should. I'm thinking that's Bertans now.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
That third year tho...
I like Boban but he isn't going to hold up to that 3rd year
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
The Pistons are really going big, signing 6'10" Jon Leuer & 7'3" Boban to add to 6'11" Drummond. They experimented last season with putting 6'9" Marcus Morris at SF and it worked out pretty well. I guess Van Gundy figures he can't out-small-ball more talented teams, so he'll (temporarily at least) go big... it will at least be fun to watch. I liked Boban, but the the Spurs most likely made the smart move switching Boban's good offense/defensive vulnerability for Dedmon's mobility, saving some money in the process.

Meh. Seriously. He was fun to watch on offense but he couldn't rebound or move for shit. We need defenders and rebounders more than anything.

in some situations, but not all. if he had been here 3 years, we would have had full bird rights, which is what you are thinking of. if it was 2 years, we'd have his early bird rights, which limits how much you can pay the FA. off the top of my head i can't remember the specifics, i think its up to the MLE.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Spurs knew he was likely a goner for a while now. I'm guessing they recognized that PNR defense was going to be an issue, so they gave up on Boban and went with Dedmon. Salary cap can be tough, but I'm glad it exists or GSW could have added some legit bigs on par with the rest of the team.

And then you look at his rebounding and defensive metrics.
He struggled to adjust to the NBA goaltending rules but still rebpunded at a high rate. He improved at pnr as he adjusted to the speed of the game.
I hope they can keep him. 3 years from now that amount isnt going to be shit.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Nice guy but for that money adios.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Big loss tbh. The only thing stopping him is overplaying him and getting an injury.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Best rebounder on the team last year, gone. Just like that.

He's for sure gone my man. Spurs don't have any way of matching that and keeping Gasol (well, if the don't trade away 4+M in salary.

Cmon FO do iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

I'd take prime Boban at that price over twilight Gasoft and a bloated contract any day!

Boban is 22/12 if you start him. You keep him or sign him and Pau. Anything less is sh**.

Big 7 foot brutes making sure shooters cant concentrate when there is a player near by.
Sure Boban has a quiet demeanor, but he looks as though he will eat your children.

I just cannot take you seriously. Even if you tried to hit me back hard, it would feel like a marshmallow being thrown by a five year old.

Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Believe it or not, but this is not all bad for the Spurs. Boban getting a $21 million contract in his second year in the league (without taking the NBA by storm) tells foreign players how fast they can potentially gain wealth in the league. And no team is hooked into the foreign markets as well as the Spurs. Boban's example could be used to get other mid-tier to upper tier foreign players over here on cheap (albeit short) contracts.

You named one good player. The rest are marginal at best. Stop throwing around tags to guys that don't fit the bill. Baynes, Luer and Boban aren't good. At all.

Boban had STRONG potential for the future. Boban is the better player here. Makes sense to pick this dude up after losing Boban. Dude got paid.
I remember some posters here though Boban was a scrub. Then they changed their position to getting paid. And now he getting paid.
-
Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
Maybe they'll make bsynes available, that's a possible upside

Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
So he got the full Arenas package? We never had a chance. Laughing now at all the talk about how to afford both Conley and Boban.
Well, Dedmon is a more conventional player. As much as I liked Boban, he had/has a lot of work to do on his game. He's one of those guys who is either a home run or a strikeout. I just hate the thought of facing him, if he does improve.

hes clearly a better player then dedmon but spurs did the best with what they got.gl in detroit boban

Re: Detroit signing Boban to offer sheet
I'm happy for Boban, he's a really skilled player who deserves that payday. I think everyone knew coming in last year there was virtually no shot of being able to keep him in the summer. I can't believe RC was able to get him for that one year on the salary he had to offer.

I think the Spurs are actually limited to 120% of his 2015-16 salary.
