I'm sure there's a similar thread to this already, can't remember tbh.
But I'm sitting here recollecting all the memories since 1997, and there's so many great ones. What are y'all's favorites? 2014 is mine, with Timmy holding his hands in the air. And the "Not bad for a bunch of old guys" quote during the locker room celebration. Greatest championship ever.
Re: Forever 21... What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
One of them for sure is Game 6 in 2013. I know 6 is very painful but watching him go all out and almost win it for us at that age? That man was the definition of the heart of a champion.

There isn't a single memory. The titles obviously and the big wins. For some reason this moment will stand out, even though in the long run it wouldn't matter.
Re: Forever 21.. What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
On the court? The 3 vs the Suns ...
Off the court? Tim calling his title shot at end of the game in the WCF when they clinched the rematch vs. the Heat ... "We have four more [games] to win,” the Spurs' big man told TNT's David Aldridge. “We’ll do it this time.” :toast

See? I became a Spurs fan in '07 because of Tony Parker, but you can see in my avatar Timmy won over me very early on. That one has to be the greatest meaningless shot ever! :lol Man, he was clutch. :depressed
I remember also one time in '09 we lost a game in overtime because Matt Bonner couldn't make the winning shot and then Timmy said in the post-conference it was his fault for letting the team down. What a helluva an athlete.

I'm more of a lurker here, but I had to respond to this post with a personal favorite memory of when I met Tim. I was working at Wherehouse music here in SA, and right before we were to close for the night, I was windexing the tall glass doors, getting the finger/hand smudges off them, when up comes Tim Duncan with a friend, and he sees what I'm doing, so he reaches as high as he can, and opens the door leaving a full hand print, I'd need a ladder to clean that LOL, and I tell him "good one" he turns around and flashes a big smile at me.

Hard to distill his playoff performances in 2002-2006 into any singular moment; he was ridiculously consistent and dominant through those 18 series, win or lose.
For whatever reason, today I keep thinking back to his series winner (off of Manu's pass) in Seattle in 2005 with .5 left on a badly sprained ankle. True grit, championship poise, and excellence all in one play.

The game 6 vs. LA in 2003 is my favorite, it was posted earlier in the thread..
Game 5 vs. the Knicks in 1999 is #2..I was at this game, it has become a forgotten series for non-Spurs fans, partly due to the lockout and the fact that it was sandwiched between Jordan's Dynasty and the Lakers threepeat..31 points doesn't sound like a lot, but remember the pace and style of play of the NBA at the time..this was to close out the series and win SA its first title..his moves were so smooth and he was so mobile, a lot of people forget how athletic and quick he was for his size/position..

First season, first round of playoffs, first game in Phoenix. En Fuego.
Re: Forever 21.. What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
Picking one is literally impossible for me over 20 years. But I can give you five:
5. Walk off after this year's OKC loss. Simple point to the crowd was special in hindsight because it was so Tim.
4. Overtime OKC in 2014. I think we ALL felt the game slipping away and once they forced overtime may have thought it was over. But Timmy drew on his past brilliance and carried us to victory...and the topper is he struck fear into the heart of Lebron by guaranteeing the victory before it even began...and YES Lebron and Heat were terrified to hear that from HIM of all people.
3. Game 6 closeout against Lakers 2003. One of THE greatest performances in playoff history. First to beat the evil empire (granted SAC really did it the year before). It was actually after THIS performance that I knew Tim was a player destined to be mount rushmore caliber which is where he is now.
2. Oddly, it was after Game 7 Heat Finals loss 2013. I remember the media REALLY thinking we were sunk and wouldn't get back up after the Game 6 giveaway. But that entire game/night speaks to Timmy's greatness. He came out and despite Lebron and Wade and Battier etc going supernova, we STILL kept it close. And frankly I found Tim's missed bunny reaction of slapping the floor to be truly something. He, for the first time, let his facade "slip". The media and dumb ass fans figure that he just lucked into his success and lacks the drive, competitive nature of the forever mentioned Jordan, Kobe, Bird, etc...basically assholes. Duncan WANTED this so bad and knew he blew it and just couldn't hold back. Those that know Tim KNEW it spoke to his burning desire to win no different, if not GREATER than the corny names mentioned prior.
And lastly, after Game 7, was seeing Wade maybe hop up and down once before running full steam to find Tim and hug him. And Lebron hugging Duncan as well. I felt Lebron and Wade felt beating DUNCAN validated their legacies and that they ESCAPED him that time. I'm positive it is probably their favorite series to that point. Spurs had NO reason to outplay them and they did up to Game 6. I just think they really FELT what Tim was all about after the end of that series and they were in awe and grateful that they outlasted it, especially considering he was far removed from his prime.
1. My favorite moment is on the bench at the end of Game 5 2014 against Miami where Manu and Parker hug each other first and then pulls Timmy in for the trio hug and seeing Tim's gaping smile. You knew it was special for him to get it done with HIS guys so long after his last, especially considering the year prior. It's my absolute favorite Tim moment.

There are a lot. But what comes to mind are those 7 points at the end to carry us past the Thunder in Game 6 of 2014 (basically sealing the championship, as we all new Heat were in decline). And especially that last shot over Ibaka (I think) were Westbrook tried to steal it and then Timmy's shot rolled around on the rim, fell through, and the bench went wild.

That has to be my favorite menory as a Timmy and Spurs fan. My gal and I had already bought airline tickets to San Antonio and we knew we would either get to see game 7 of the WCF series if the Spurs lost game 6 or games 1 and 2 of the finals if the Spurs won. Our flight was the morning after the game 6 win against OKC and we celebrated that win all night until we left for the airport.

What I will remember most about Timmy is that he would always be the last player to leave the court after a win. He would wait for all his teammates regardless of who they were before he would walk back into the tunnel. I think it is the little things that I will remember about him the most. How he would hug the ball before a game. The pranks he played on his teammates on the sidelines. His expressions after a foul or bad call. The guy was locked in when he played and he competed every game. I never could say Tim took a game off. In 19 years, when he played, he never took a game off. He competed because he was a man of principle and integrity. I guess this is what I will miss the most:

I liked his demeanor. Everyone else makes the game seem like its some life or death struggle, like putting some ball through a hoop is like Superman saving the world from nuclear annihilation. Duncan treated it like a game, like fun. I remember those tough years when Phil Jackson joined the Lakers, how demoralizing it was to lose to them, but it seems as if TD didnt get demoralized, because it was just a game. He never got beat mentally or spiritually. Always on island time.

My favorite Spurs memory will always be the 2014 title, but if I have to pick a Timmy specific one I'm going with him coming through for us in 2005 when it started to look like we were going to let that title slip away. Game 7 3rd quarter he really rallied the team around him and got us back in the game, where Manu finished it for us.

Duncan sweeps the Lakers in 99. Phil not winning a game and thinking he's earned the right to talk sh** with that asterisk sh**. Lakers fans running with it, exposing themselves as the morons they are; then Duncan murdering the Lakers in 03 as an F you, I remember what you said.
But if I had to pinpoint an exact moment, I'd probably look for something in 05 Game 7 vs Pistons.

I was working at Northwoods Theater (1604/281) in the Summer of 2002. Its a busy Saturday night and i'm ripping tickets and telling people which theater to go to. I'm looking down when I see a huge hand handing me a ticket and i hear a familiar voice and i look up and theres Timmy with one of his buddies going to watch THE SUM OF ALL FEARS.
I froze and i don't even think i told him anything, I just went blank. He had a backpack and they told us to not let anyone take their backpack but i didn't care, he could've had 8 backbacks and I would've let him in. He was my hero and he had just won MVP that year and I was just in awe. I ignored the other customers for a minute so i could see him walk to his theater. It was pretty cool. He ended up going a few more times, and every time he went was awesome.

I might remember you. Were you the guy with the gimpy hand and the thick glasses or were you the black guy who seems kind of gay but only because he still acts like a kid?

How he would hug the ball before a game. The pranks he played on his teammates on the sidelines. His expressions after a foul or bad call. The guy was locked in when he played and he competed every game. I never could say Tim took a game off. In 19 years, when he played, he never took a game off. He competed because he was a man of principle and integrity. I guess this is what I will miss the most:

The ones that come to mind are: the 3 pointer in G1 against PHX in the 08 1st rd, the OT against OKC in '14's Game 6 en route to Chip 5 and his dominating Game 6 against New Jersey for Chip #2.

This quote still gives me chills... Mostly because of what the team had been through the year before combined with the fact that Tim is so quiet and would have never thought he would say something like this. You could just tell that he meant it... Then he backed it up in a historic way.

ESPN needs to dig out the full video if it hasn't been destroyed and put it out there. At the time, they cut away to a replay, so we only heard him saying that.

so many, tbh... on a personal note, just thankful I was able to watch him play live both at the AT&T Center and on the road...

His whole first season. It was so obvious then, this would not be the Spurs of old. The Jazz made it out of the WCF in 98', but the Spurs were at their heels and I could feel the Spurs imminently crossing the threshold.
I was a huge DRob fan, so the addition of Timmy seemed (and does seem) like divine providence. The Spurs were finally going to get their due.

Re: Forever 21.. What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
I thought this was a great story by a competitor:
Etan Thomas: Here is my Tim Duncan story: So we’re playing the Spurs and I get the ball on the post. I inside pivot and sweep to the middle for my jump hook and he blocks it. So as we are running down the court he says to me “that was a good move but you have to get more into my body so you can either draw the foul or I can’t block it”. So I didn’t know if he was talking noise or what so just kind of looked at him confused and said ok. Then, a few plays later I did it again got more into his body and he couldn’t block it. I missed the shot and he looked at me and said much better and kept playing lol. I remember calling my boy Zee Chilton and telling him this story lol Tim Duncan is honestly one of the nicest guys in the NBA and the best power forward ever in NBA history. Re: Forever 21.. What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
The 2 best "good" Timmy memories I have are when he carried the team on his back in the 3rd quarter of game 7 against the Pistons, and when he was just hugging his kids on the floor of game 5 of the 2014 finals. At the same time, game 6 or game 7 of the 2013 finals was also one of the best despite it being a bad one because you get to see that despite Tim's being so stoic, he couldn't help but hide the frustration he had. I am truly fortunate to have seen a Tim Duncan in my lifetime and there won't be another one ever, or it would be a very long time before another one came along.

Re: Forever 21.. What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
the 3 pointer against phoenix was so fuckin awesome... but to me that one is always lacking because it wasn't in a championship run. in a vacuum, it was his best moment, but i dont remember the moments in vacuums
for me its the performance against shaq in game 6 of 2003
as much as people are talking up his game 7 vs detroit, i thoroughly remember feeling manu absolutely deserved F-MVP when they were going to make the announcement post game.
1 - 2003 lakers game 6
2 - 2003 nets game 6... that comeback and all the big shots made by him or a result of furious double teams
3 - we'll do it this time

Re: Forever 21.. What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
A few weeks ago, some guy was trolling me on twitter saying that Tim wasn't great, and that reminded me of my first fight in the real life. And it was for Tim :ihit :lol https://twitter.com/MRJEODLL/status/747678558542270465
But my best Duncan's memory isn't a play.
I was 4 years old when the Spurs won in 1999, and still remember my dad celebrating, throwing me into the air like a baby, then doing the same with my sisters, he seemed so happy...
Tim is in my heart where those memories reside now.

But I'm sitting here recollecting all the memories since 1997, and there's so many great ones. What are y'all's favorites? 2014 is mine, with Timmy holding his hands in the air. And the "Not bad for a bunch of old guys" quote during the locker room celebration. Greatest championship ever.
What say you?
That is also my best memory - 2014 - game 5 - and we were there, in San Antonio, to be part of the celebration. Timmy holding his hands in the air is an iconic image - for the ages.
Re: Forever 21.. What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
2003 game 6 against LA, 2003 Game 6 against NJN, Pistons game 7 in the third Q when he took over, Dallas game 7 2006 when he left it all out on the floor and had over 40 some odd points. Those games right there were my faves.

Re: Forever 21.. What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
when tim got cheated on and divorced his wife (plus the rumors she floated out there) then later lost game 6 & 7 in the finals in excruciating fashion. only to come back the following year with a new hotter babe and getting revenge on the team that nearly ended him while completely dismantling them. THAT'S MY FAV MEMORY.

Re: Forever 21.. What's You Favorite Timmy Memory?
Understand I have only followed the Spurs since 2013. Game 6 2013 is one of the most vulnerable I have ever seen him.
But recently, more recently. I have memories of him playing a great game against LMA of all ppl. The triple OT that we lost bc Lillard went HAM at the end in December 2014. It was a magnificent game and came in on the hills of another triple OT against Memphis. We lost both games but Timmy was just amazing in those games and that was a historic deal the amount of minutes he played in those games at his age and his play level. Timmy was intensely competitive. He held the team together that month without Kawhi and Tony. http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townn...size=512%2C345
Then I remember him in the Clippers series 2015. I knew he wanted the repeat with a passion. I remember Pop saying that season Timmy was our most consistent player at 38-39? I knew he wanted the repeat badly that season. It was his last great season too. We got a different player in 2016, it was time. But boy he was great almost until the very end, truly great. http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/b...s-clippers.jpg
I will remember game 6 OKC series in 2014 and game 6 OKC series 2016. His leadership. Staying until the very end in that game 6 his acknowledgement to the crowd cheers even in a loss. I knew. I will miss Timmy the teammate and leader. Though no one compares to Tim, I hope Kawhi steps up in that area. I hope for all of our youngest players to have soaked up as much as they could from him. http://ww2.hdnux.com/photos/46/27/73...3/920x1240.jpg
